IT WAS VALENTINES DAY. You and Ariana had been together for five years now. You asked Ari out on Valentine's Day, a day you will never forget. You guys were the definition of endgame, I mean you still are! You and her Nonna had gotten really close during those five years. She was the sailer of your relationship. And she made sure it didn't sink. You had told Nonna about your plan for today. She made sure that nothing got in the way of such plans.

You were ready to settle down, and you wanted Ariana to be your last. The person you would spend the rest of your life with. Until death do you part. Nothing was stopping you but fear, when the fans found out you guys were dating, they were really supportive! Everyone was.

So as you were doing your makeup, getting ready to ask a question that would change both of your lives forever, Ariana walked in, smiling. Looking like an angel, per usual. You smiled brightly at her.

"Hey babe" she said sweetly as she took a seat next to you, in a plush white and rose gold chair.

"Hey, Happy anniversary and Valentine's Day!" You said, giving her a kiss on the cheek.

She giggled an "I love you".

"Love you more- Hey are you busy today!?" You asked, praying that she wasn't.

"Nope!" She smiled brightly, "I cleared my schedule because of today!"

You returned the simile, "okay good, because, we are going to have a picnic! So get ready because" you said looking at your clock, checking the time "we are leaving in an hour, so at 1:00pm, we have to be out of here" you said standing out of your chair and leaving the room, shouting an "I love you" as you walked down the hall.

You walked into Nonna's room, smiling so hard, that your face started to hurt.

"Do you got it Nonna?", she nodded as she opened a small, wooden door, revealing a smaller velvet box. She looked up at you as she handed you the box,

"Y/n, I hope this goes well. This ring, was my mother's, I want Ariana to have it. You make her happy, y/n. That's all I want for my Ari." She stated, a small tear escaping her eye, she wiped it quickly, "but it isn't time to cry, it's time to celebrate! Today is a happy day, y/n."

"Thank you again Nonna, you have supported us and our relationship, and we thank you for that."

She nodded and gave a smile. You nodded back walking out of Nonnas room, and entering the room you shared with Ariana.

You walked over to the closet, running your fingers along the large selection of fabrics and items of clothing. Your hands landed on a particular item, the one you wore the first day you and Ariana met.

When you met it was a normal day, and you were at Starbucks, when suddenly a ladies drink fell, your head shot over to where you had heard the noise, and you walked towards the short girl.

"Here" you said handing her your drink, "I didn't touch it". She looked up at you with her soft, doe eyes, "Oh no it's okay!-" but you cut her off, saying "No I insist, or I can buy you the same drink that you wanted!" She finally nodded seeing that you wouldn't stop until you got what you wanted. You smiled and sat in a booth, she sat in front of you

. "Okay, so what do you usually get-" you trailed off seeing as you didn't know her name,

"Ariana, Ariana Grande" she smiled.

"Okay Mrs.Grande,  what would you like- don't tell me it's a grande -" you both laughed,

"um..." she paused, "I still feel bad! You don't have to pay for it" you gave her a serious face, "okay fine! But first what's your name?"

"Y/n, my name is Y/n L/n."

"That's a beautiful name, y/n"

You gave her a smile, "thank you, but you still have to give me your order!"

She huffed "first, thank you, my order Mrs.L/n is a Cloud Macchiato,"

"Okay, I'll be right back" you walked over to the counter and asked the lady for Arianas order.

You laughed at the memory. Drawing out the item from the closet and spreading it on the bed. You grabbed a pair of sandals and a purse, and put the box in it, zipping it shut. You got dressed and shortly after you heard Ariana knock on the door. You sprinted over to the door and opened it, she was already dressed.

She was wearing a white puffy, mid-thigh, dress. She looked like she was glowing.

"Wow, you look- gorgeous Ariana." You stated breathlessly. She let out a dry laugh as she scanned you up and down. "You are wearing the same dress you wore when we first met!"

"Yes, I am. Now" you said looking at your clock, checking the time, "it's a quarter before one, we should get going!" She nodded agreeing with you.

Walking over to the kitchen, you went to the refrigerator and grabbed a basket, containing food for the picnic.

"You really went all out didn't you Y/n?" She questioned. You smirked proudly. "I sure did"

( Time skip to the park because I am not going to describe the car ride, like a good and well put together writer would do, but I will take me time to wright this ! )

Ariana giggled as you spread out the blanket on the grass, and set the basket on top. You both sat down. You sat closer to her, cupping her cheeks and kissing her soft lips. Butterflies flew around in your stomach as you pulled away. She looked down and smiled, removing a piece of hair that fell into her face.

I grabbed my purse, about to take out the small box, but I stopped, "first, close your eyes!" She giggled and obeyed "you better not scare me Y/n or I swear-" I quickly took out the box. "You can look now Ariana-"

When she opened her eyes she started to squeal and jump up and down, when she calmed down, you could see that her eyes were glossy.

"Ari- Ari don't cry" you consoled her.

She sniffed, and nodded, "Y/n, yes. I million times yes" you laughed,

"Ariana Grande, I love you so much"

"Y/n, I love you more." She gave you a big hug, like she would never see you again.

From that moment on you were a happy couple, yes you both argued and fought, you disagreed and agreed, but you worked together and got through everything.

IT WAS MY LAST SHIFT OF THE WEEK. Finally Friday had come and we close early the cafe. I decided to start cleaning the tables, considering that in thirty minutes we would close, no one would come and if they did they wouldn't be on the tables. Today it was only me and my best friend Jasmine working.

We've worked together ever since the beginning of high school. She was a music fanatic and I preferred books, but we put aside our many differences and we can't be torn apart. The only thing she would do outside of work was listen to music and spray paint shit. I would read and draw. I only listen to music when I'm sad.

Which was today actually. So I actually payed attention to what they were playing on the radio today. They just played the same songs over, and over, and over. That's why people get sick of them, like any song that my mom would loop for hours, I now hate. I mean I hate Despacito, Shape of you, Look what you made me do. They are all so fucking repetitive now. Or songs that are way to happy that make you depressed.

"Y/n! If you want I can finish your shift for you!" Jazmine said as she approached me, I shook my head.

"No it's fine jazzy, you can go home, I just have fifteen minutes left of my shift."

"Okay" she lingered "don't say I didn't offer" she said taking off her apron and walking out the door, the bell ringing.

I continued to clean the tables, hearing the bell ring again.

"Jasmine I told you to go home-" I said looking up. It wasn't Jasmine, but a man I'd never seen before.

"Oh- I'm sorry, I thought you were my friend, sorry, um can I take your order?!" I was embarrassed to say the least.

He was a little bit taller than me, I'm 5'4, so I think he was 5'7 at least. His dreads were dyed blue and it looked like he had just shaved. His soft brown eyes smiled at my slight embarrassment. He looked familiar but I brushed it off.

"Yeah, a coffee with a side of your number, please" he laughed looking down as he sat at the counter. I cursed to myself, to give my number or not to give...

"It'll be right up-?" I stoped since I hadn't gotten his name.

"Jarad, Jarad Higgins" he responded looking back up at me.

I smiled "Y/n, Y/n L/n"

"That's a beautiful name, y/n" he repeated, testing the name.

I blushed and turned around to make his coffee, feeling his warm stare on me,

"Do you want cream, or sugar?" I questioned looking back at him.

"No, just black coffee please y/n" He smiled.

Hearing him say my name the way he said it, made me feel like we had been friends since birth. There was something about him that I liked.

"So what brought you here?" I asked setting his coffee in front of him, curious of what had brought him here since I had never seen him before.

"Just passing through here" he responded grabbing his cup and bringing it to his lips taking a sip. His lips looked so soft and kis- ok y/n stop, you just met the boy, don't get ahead of yourself! You know nothing about him, you are about to get out of high school, you don't know how old he is!

"So will I ever get that number?" He laughed a bit as he set down the cup.

"Maybe" i tested him, he smirked "ok, how about we make a deal?" He said seriously.

"With a stranger me- never!" I joked.

He ignored my child-ness "How about you let me take you out on a date- for dinner, and if you have a good time, maybe I could get your number?" He asked.

I thought for a second, I mean I would love to, well y/n if you don't do this you will probably be single forever...

"Okay, deal. Meet me here later at 8:30" I smiled biting my lip.

He stood up to leave, before he walked out he said "It was great meeting you y/n, I'll see you tonight" and he disappeared.

The way I hated this hit different though 😩

Why Your Spells Don’t Work

You set your intention. You had all the correct correspondences. You even timed your spell with the appropriate moon phase. And yet – no results. What gives? 

Failed spells happen to the best of us, and for a variety of reasons. But a spell gone wrong doesn’t necessarily mean that magic isn’t real or that you’re bad at witchcraft. Magic is complicated, and there are a lot of reasons it might not behave the way you want it to. Here are some of the most common causes of ineffective spells: 

1. Lack of real-world follow through

Magic is meant to be used as a tool to supplement your mundane efforts – not as a substitute for them. How can you expect your job hunting spell to bring in results if you aren’t applying for jobs? 

Magic does not exist in a vacuum, and it can’t make something out of nothing. If a spell doesn’t bring you the desired result, make sure that your non-magical actions are aligned with what you are trying to manifest. 

2. What you’re trying to manifest isn’t a realistic possibility

Wait, what? Isn’t magic supposed to be, well… magic? Shouldn’t you be able to ask for whatever you want and get it? Yes and no.

Magic is simply a way of directing energy. Magic can’t defy the natural laws of the universe. It can’t make something happen unless it was already a potential possibility.

If your intention is unrealistic for where you are right now, try splitting it up into a multi-step process. No spell is going to make you a billionaire overnight, but magic could help you get hired at a better paying job… and then get promoted… and then get offered a profitable side gig… etc. Starting small and working your way up is always going to produce stronger results, because you laid the foundation first.

3. Your intention was either too vague or too specific 

Whether you use written petitions or spoken incantations, clearly stating your intention is an important part (maybe THE most important part) of any spell or ritual. A good intention is specific enough to get you the results you want, but open enough to let those results manifest naturally.

Let’s say you do a money spell, and your intention for the spell is simply, “I have more money.” If you find a penny on the ground the next day and pick it up, technically that is more money than you had before. A better alternative would be to use an intention like, “I have enough money to buy ___,” or “I have enough money for everything I need and want.”

Using an intention that is too specific creates the opposite problem. Let’s say you want to manifest a scholarship to a specific school. You do a candle spell with the intention, “I have been chosen for the John Smith Scholarship at Jane Doe University.” But maybe the John Smith scholarship had already been awarded by the time you did your spell. Maybe there’s another scholarship at the same school that would be a better fit for you, or maybe you’re eligible for a grant that would make tuition more affordable. A better intention for your spell would be “I have enough financial aid to easily and affordably attend Jane Doe University.”

Magic always follows the path of least resistance, so you want to make sure that your intention is specific enough to give your magic a clear direction, but open enough to allow it some flexibility. 

4. Lack of focus/concentration

We all know the struggle. You’ve been planning this ritual forever, and it’s finally the full moon, but you’ve got a really full schedule today. If you hurry, you can probably squeeze it into the thirty minute window between school and work, right? 

If you say a few quick words and burn some incense before you head out the door in the morning, that totally counts as a spell, right? 

Not so much. Rushed, lazy, and/or half-assed spells rarely, if ever, work. Spells revolve around the raising and direction of energy, and that requires two things: a clear intention (see above) and intense focus on that intention. If you don’t have the time/energy/mental capacity to focus, it’s best to take a break, have a self care day, and come back to your spell some other time. 

5. You’re subconsciously blocking your own results OR you did a spell for someone else who isn’t open to it

I decided to lump these two together, because they’re different variations of the same issue. 

Whenever you are doing magic on yourself, it’s important that your mindset is aligned with your intentions. You can do love spells all day long, but if deep down you don’t believe that you’re worthy of love, that belief is going to block your spells from working. This is why mindfulness, psychology, and self care are all such important parts of a successful witchcraft practice. It’s also why I recommend doing the mental work before you sit down to ritual. 

If you did a spell on yourself, or are trying to manifest something for yourself, and it just isn’t working, I highly recommend setting some time aside for journaling and meditation and asking yourself 1.) if this is really what you want, and 2.) if you truly believe that you can have it.

The whole mindset thing gets even more tricky when you’re doing magic on behalf of another person, because their energy is also at work in the situation and could be at odds with yours. For example, if you do a spell to help a friend land a job, but that friend believes that they’re totally underqualified and could never get it, they probably won’t get the job even if you did everything “right” in your spell. 

This should go without saying, but it is extremely unethical to use magic to mess around in someone else’s head. Even if you think you know what’s best for them, they need to be open to it. If someone is blocking the spells you do on their behalf, all you can do is try to be supportive and find other ways to help them out.

Other (Rare) Reasons for Failed Spells

If a spell goes wrong, it will almost always be for one of the above reasons. But maybe you did everything “right” – you did the mental work first, had a strong, realistic intention, put lots of focus into your spell, and followed through in real life – and you still aren’t seeing results. There are a couple of other things that could be blocking your spells, but they’re very uncommon so I’m not going to talk about them in as much detail. These may be things you want to look into if you really, genuinely can’t think of any other cause. 

It’s possible that another witch has done magic that cancels out or blocks yours. This is not common, and it does NOT mean that someone has cursed you. It could be as simple as two witches unknowingly casting spells with opposite intentions, which end up cancelling each other out. (For example, maybe two different people both cast a spell to get the same job. Obviously, they can’t both get that job.) This is why it’s never a bad idea to incorporate a protective element into your spells to block outside interference.

There is a very, very remote possibility that someone has placed a curse on you specifically to block your magic. However – and I cannot stress this enough – this is VERY uncommon. If you were cursed you would know it, or at least know that something was very wrong in your life. If you feel like you have been cursed or hexed, I recommend looking into uncrossing spells, which are specifically designed to undo negative magic.

It’s also possible that a higher power is intervening. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a deity, although it certainly could be. Most witches believe in some form of fate or destiny, and it’s possible that your spell didn’t work because what you asked for is not in alignment with your destiny. In these situations, really the only thing you can do is surrender to the bigger picture.
