Dangerously Stupid

Part 1

I wrote this half asleep at 3am and have not proof read this at all, I’m so sorry.

Generation: Bayverse TMNT

Donatello x reader

Pronouns: Gender neutral

Warnings: fighting, blood, injury, not proof read

Summary: You watched the turtles stop the Foot from robbing a bank one night and step in to save Donatello while he’s down. What will happen next?

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

Two months. You had lived in New York City only two months before you got caught up in a Foot Clan attack. Just your luck.

You were walking home late from your new, and already shitty job, when you heard loud banging noises from a closed bank up the road. Crossing to the other side of the street as you approached the building, you heard a loud crash of glass and paused in your steps. Waited, and listened. A robbery?

You didn’t have another second to process that thought when suddenly a loud explosion erupted from the building, the shock sending you stumbling back and falling on your butt.

Brick and concrete were strewn across the street, thankfully not being launched far enough to hit you. But then you noticed something from the smoking hole in the building. A quick flash of movement, the sound of a thud and a loud shout. Eyes wide and stunned, you watched as several people in black tactical gear were thrown yelling from the hole in the building out into the street. They had swords?? And guns. They had guns.

Adrenaline kicked in and you scrambled to your feet and rushed for cover in the closest alley way. Shit. Dead end. Quickly creeping back to the entrance you peaked around the corner to the open street. The thugs had started to recover slightly and were raising to their feet, looking around quickly like they were being haunted and drawing their weapons. If you ran out now they would surely see you, so you stood still and watched for an opening.

Suddenly, something large climbed out from the smoking building and the men quickly aimed and fired their guns at it.

Your eyes shot open in horror and brought a hand to your mouth to stifle your gasp as you recognized too late that it was a person- or so you thought. The large being quickly turned around as the bullets came and you watched in disbelief as the bullets bounced off their back. What was that, a shell?! The smooth hard panels reflected light from the street lamp and the flashes from the guns.

A loud thud and a grunt of pain brought your attention back to the thugs. Another large being had dropped down from above and landed behind the men in tactical gear, knocking back two of them and in a flash of metal, sliced a gun in half. This one was a bit closer to you. From what you could see, they were bald… and green? Much like the other guy. You noticed he was wielding two katana, and was making quick work of the thieves.

The other green guy by the building had now recovered and was running over with a rageful battle cry to assist in taking out the last of the goons.

But to your surprise, more people were thrown out from inside the building with a cheerful shout of ‘booyakashaaa!’ and a third large green man jumped out from the building. This one was cheering and swinging around what looked like nunchucks in a flourishing display and made a cool looking pose.

Now you were just feeling comically confused. Your eyes narrowed to observe the orange band around his eyes and take in his outfit, which looked like hard armor on his front and… jean board shorts. Mouth drawn in a tense line, your brain helpfully concluded that these guys were just really weird green body paint wearing commando-type jock vigilantes. Or you just hit your head when you fell back from the explosion and didn’t notice. Either way, you felt yourself relax and mentally shrugged, seeming as the weird giant costumed turtle-looking guys were taking out the bad guys with guns. Maybe you could get home soon and address whether you were hallucinating or not.

It seemed like the battle was just about wrapping up, when suddenly another masked vigilante appeared from inside the building. He quickly pushed the orange one away and shouted “Get back!” just as a second larger explosion burst from inside the building. You ducked for cover as more brick and mortar rained down from the building, and watched as the purple masked vigilante was thrown harshly from the building out into the street. He landed with a groan on his side, not too far from your hiding spot. You could see his shell was equipped with old recycled looking tech, and a long metal pole he seemed to have dropped was laying not too far from him.

“DONNIE!” The three other shelled vigilantes yelled, and started to book it towards their fallen comrade, when suddenly a black van came speeding down the street and rammed into the back of the red masked guy, sending him hurtling forward as the car came to a screeching halt. The doors flung open and more thugs with swords jumped from the car and started to attack the blue and orange masked guys.

You shrunk back more in your hiding place, afraid they would spot you. But then the sound of another car door opening caught your attention. The tech turtle guy was still in your line of sight, unconscious in the street. A woman with black hair and a red streak appeared before him. She pulled out her katana and raised it above her head and prepared to strike-

“NO!!!”

In a flash, you had leapt out from the alley and sprinted into the street. You weren’t thinking, moving on pure instinct as you stood defensively over the prone form of the turtle man and raised up your arm to block the swing of the sword. Somehow, you managed to block the woman’s strike. Your forearm braced against the wrapped handle. The women stared back at you in shock, then turned cold at your interference and doubled down the power in her grip. That’s when you noticed the sharp pain shoot through your shoulder. You groaned as your arm trembled with the strain of the woman still pressing down against your blocked swing. You may have stopped the sword from reaching the vigilante, but you did not have the power to stop the blade from cutting into the flesh of your trapezius.

The woman angrily pulled back, dragging her sword more through your shoulder and you cried out in pain. You stumbled into a crouch in front of the downed turtle, gripping at your wound while she recovered her form. To your horror, she readied to mercilessly strike you again when suddenly, the red masked vigilante appeared from the side and bodily rammed into her, sending the woman flying into the hood of the car in revenge.

“Eat that.” you heard him grumble while he rolled his shoulder. The large red masked turtle turned his attention to you and his eyes regarded you steadily. You were panting lightly and held his eyes for a moment before you both heard the quiet groan come from behind you. You quickly turned around, and saw that the purple vigilante was starting to come around. You placed your free hand lightly on his shoulder as his eyes fluttered open, leaning down a little to get a better look at his face.

“Hey, are you alright?” You asked him. Now that you were this close, you noticed the shape of his face was quite different, and the smooth skin under your hand didn’t feel like paint. You tried not to think too hard on it.

Behind you, Leo jogged over towards Raph while Mikey finished tying up the last of the Foot. Upon seeing a human crouched next to Donnie, he shot Raph a questioning look, to which the red turtle simply shrugged. Leo turned his attention back towards you as Donnie started to pull himself up into a sitting position, and noticed the blood seeping through your fingers clasped on your shoulder.

His eyes widened and rushed over to the human and his brother. “Hey, you’re bleeding-!”

“Wha…?” Donnie was still only half conscious. He thought he was dreaming, opening his eyes to such a beautiful person looking down concerned at him. Carefully, he pulled himself into a sitting position and was startled by his older brother running over to him in concern. At first he though Leo was talking about him, and glanced down at himself quickly to check for any open wounds, but when he found nothing he looked up and saw where the leader’s eyes were leading and found the spot where your hand was pressed over the bloody spot on your shoulder. “Oh dear, let me look at that….” Donnie’s brain fully woke up and he quickly shifted into doctor mode, gently taking hold of your arm to pull your hand away from the wound.

You had shifted your attention and were carefully regarding the blue turtle that had rushed over to crouch next to you, when you were startled by the sudden contact of a large hand enclosing around your wrist. You made a little yelp of pain as your hand was pulled from the bloodied wound, and when you turned back to look at the purple vigilante, your breath caught in your throat by the intense golden eyes staring at you.

Raph came to stand behind you and Leo to overlook the inspection of your wound. “Karai tried to slice up Don while he was down, but this kid jumped in and stopped her.” He supplied a bit gruffly. Raph regarded the small human with mixed feelings. He didn’t wanna trust them, but he had just witnessed this total strange swoop in outta nowhere and save his bro.

The expression on Leo’s face shifted to surprise, eyeing Raph to check he was being serious before turning back to regard the bloodied wound this human had sustained in defense of his brother. He opened his mouth to thank you but was cut off-

“Donnie!! I found your glasses!! -Woah! Bro! Who’s the pretty face?” Mikey chimed in and came rushing over excitedly to join the party.

Donnie was focused on carefully inspecting the wound, and trying his best not to overheat under the gaze of the beautiful stranger whose shoulder he was carefully prodding. The small human flinched suddenly with a small cry of pain when he pulled at the skin a bit to check the depth of the cut. Donnie hissed and pulled back. “Sorry about that- Oh, thank you Mikey.” He reached his hand out and his little bro returned his glasses to him. A little scrapped but still wearable. “Your cut is pretty deep. You should go to the hospital right away. Do you need us to call you an ambulance?”

Donnie was already reaching into his pouch to pull out some spare gauze. His mind was racing a mile a minute, and was trying so hard to stay focused on his task. He didn’t hear Leo and Raph’s exchange. He still felt a little shaken up from the explosion. Slightly bruised, and judging from how flustered and distracted he was feeling, maybe a little concussed. Every time he looked up to meet the stranger’s eyes he felt his heart jump in his chest and his breath catch in his throat. Don decided he just needed to quickly finish patching them up and get home to properly check himself over for injuries.

You, on the other hand, were feeling just as dazed and awestruck at the being that was currently looking you over. You watched this large human turtle work intently on gently applying a pad of gauze over your wound to stem the blood flow, and couldn’t help but feel like you were dreaming. You watched him quietly while your brain helpfully commented on how cute he looked with his taped turtleshell glasses on. But you startled at remembering he had asked you something. “…hm? Oh! A-an ambulance? No thank you. I think I’ll be fine.” You barely noticed the red seeping through the make shift bandage, keeping your attention focused on studying the purple one’s face so you could save it to your memory as he finished up working on your shoulder.

Mikey, who had been waiting intently for his chance to talk to you, had caught on to the tension between you and Donnie. “Broooooo… you feeling alright?” He asked curiously.

Donnie startled at the question and turned away from you, looking a little embarrassed and adjusting his glasses. “J-just fine, Mikey. Maybe a little bruised.” He quickly supplied.

However, a huge grin startled to stretch across Mikey’s face as he connected the dots, and opened his big mouth to tease when Raph’s big hand suddenly smushed into his face and shoved him off away from the scene.

“Come on bozo, give them some room. Let’s go check on the Foot.” Raph had taken pity on Donnie and decided to quickly redirect his hyper little bro. The quicker they could finish up here and head home the better.

Once Donnie appeared to be finished, Leo had gotten up and reached down to offer you a hand up. You were feeling pretty overwhelmed now that the adrenaline was starting to wear off. But you quietly took the offered hand and stood on shaky legs, feeling your head swim for a minute you leaned more heavily into the support of the blue masked turtle as you steadied yourself, your shoulder giving you a painful throb.

Leo kept a careful eye on Donnie as the tech genius pushed himself to stand up after you. As he leader he had to make sure there were no outstanding injuries he had missed on his brother while looking after this stranger. But he noted that Donnie seemed pretty dazed, and wouldn’t take his attention off this person who had saved him. He raised a questioning eye ridge in the direction of his brother and looked between the two, letting a small smile tug at the corner of his mouth. He reached over a slapped a hand down on Donnie’s shoulder to jostle his attention. “Good work Donnie. Now, Mx….”

“(Y/n)… (Y/n) (L/n). Um… thank you for patching me up…. Donnie, was it?” You had to admit you were feeling a little dizzy from the blood loss. But you really wanted to remember this moment, so you did your best to focus on the purple terrapin.

“Donatello, or… Donnie, if you prefer.” Donnie found himself smiling down at the small person. He felt Leo shake his shoulder a bit and shot him a questioning glance.

“Well, aren’t you gonna thank them for saving your sorry shell?” Leo teased his brother, it was clear to him Donnie was developing a bit of a crush, so he thought he’d torture him a bit. “Raph said they stopped Karai from slicing you a new one. You’re lucky they got to you in time.” Leo said a little more seriously. He realized then just how lucky they were you had been here, or else Donnie might be in much worse shape.

Donnie’s eyes snapped wide in shock, his eyes darting between you and Leo. His gaze landing on the cut he had just tended on your shoulder. “R-Really…? You got this protecting me…? I… th-thank you!” Donnie seemed really flustered. He looked guilty, but also a bit awestruck a random beautiful human off the street had stepped in to his defense, and at this moment, didn’t seem scared of him. You just stared up at him, and when he reached out to take your hand to squeeze in appreciation, you didn’t flinch away. “I-if there’s anything you need, just let us know… d-do you need help getting help getting to the hospital….? I mean- the police will get here soon but once-”

You felt your face heat up at the contact, feeling your heart rate speed up a bit, but quickly remembered why you couldn’t take their advice and quickly cut him off. “N-No! Really, I’m fine. I’m just glad you’re okay. I can get there on my own.” You gave him and the other large turtle a reassuring smile, just as you heard the approaching sirens sound out in the distance.

“Okay, time for us to go. Mx. (Y/l/n), thank you for saving my brother. And please… don’t tell anyone about us. We’ll be in touch.” Leo hurried out, leaving your side to tug his brother away from you as Raph and Mikey hurried off ahead to expertly climb up the closest building.

You watched in awe at their skill, seamlessly scaling the fire escape and brick before disappearing above the sky line. But noticed the purple turtle… Donnie, had stopped to turn back and get one last look at you, before disappearing along with his brothers into the night.

“Hm…. Donatello…. I’ll have to remember that.” You said to yourself. You quickly turned to leave, making to start walking home, thankfully in the opposite direction of the sirens. You had no desire to spend the next two hours giving statements to the police and being dragged off to an overly expensive hospital tonight. You just wanted to get home and take care of this cut yourself, and save yourself a decade’s worth of medical debt. Yeah, that’s exactly what you’d do.

You slowly walked down the dark streets and made your way back safely to your little apartment.

And promptly passed out on the couch.

Part 2 coming soon.

Donnie was in his lab, because where else would he be? He was jamming to some EDM music in the background while tinkering with some project of his. You sat in front of him, starting to get bored. He had invited you over to show you his latest masterpiece, but it hadn’t worked yet, so now he was trying to fix the issue. Which according to him would be a quick fix, but he had been at it for over half an hour now, cursing under his breath.

“You better leave all the tools how you found them,” he said without looking up, as he could hear the light clattering.

“I know your system,” you reassured him. “You've explained it in great detail several times, don’t you worry.”

“Then, can you pass me the screwdriver, please?” he asked, stretching out his hand in your direction.

You reached out to pick it up from the box but it fell from your hand, rolling over the edge of his work table. You flinched slightly, ready for the clatter it would make as it fell onto the floor, since that screwdriver was modified by Donnie and particularly heavy. But the sound never came. Instead you heard more of an electrical zap and a whoosh.

Taking a couple of steps to get around the table, you saw that there was a hole on the floor where the screwdriver would have been. It was circular, formed by several zapping rays of a yellow-ish glow. You couldn't see through it, but it was clear that the tool fell in there. You merely blinked at the sight in front of you, unable to say anything.

Not getting a response from you, Donnie also moved from his spot, leaving his work on the table, and walked over, now standing in front of you on the other side of… whatever that was.

“Huh,” is all that he said.

“What is that?” you asked after a moment. “And why are you not alarmed?”

Donnie scoffed.

“It’s obvious it's some kind of portal,” he explained, turning around to his wall of machinery, tapping something on this brace device.

You raised your hands and eyebrows in a ‘well, sorry I didn’t immediately recognise it as such’ gesture, even though he had his back to you.

“I need to analyse it,” Donnie informed you as he turned around. “Better get a little further back just in case–”

Suddenly the screwdriver appeared again, coming out straight out of the portal, a tiny turtle hand attached to it.

You both stood in silence and shock, watching how a little turtle tot climbed out the portal carrying the heavy tool, finally getting to sit on the floor with a huff. The baby had a little ribbon tied to her head, which hung a little askew because of her efforts. She looked at you with a smile, then at Donnie, and squealed in glee, holding out the screwdriver with both hands towards him, as if offering it to him.

Then the portal zapped loudly, and shut closed. The little turtle seemed unfazed by this, still waiting for Donnie to react.

Donnie opened and closed his mouth several times but no words came out. You approached the baby and  crouched down next to her.

“H-hey there, little one,” you greeted her, and she cooed. “Where did you come from, hm?”

You took the screwdriver from the little hands, placing it on the table, and picked up the baby in your arms.

“Huh, look at you, aren't you cute?”, you said as you inspected her chubby cheeks and big eyes. “What’s your name?”

The baby cooed and babbled as you moved the ribbon up her head to where you thought it was meant to sit. You fixed your grasp on the turtle to carry her better against your hip, in the process stroking over her back with your hand, and your brows raised at the sensation.

“Donnie look,” you pointed out to him. “She has a soft shell, just like you!”

You turned back to him and he was still in shock, unmoving. But you had been with him long enough to pick up on the tiny changes in his face to read them. Given the twitch of the corner of his mouth, you knew his mind was not only racing, but he already had a plausible hypothesis for this situation.

“Spit it out, Don,” you said with an amused sigh. “You already know what happened, right?”

“I think I do,” he answered.

Donnie approached you and the baby, guiding you to a different part of the lab, where he instructed you to place her in a little open chamber, which you knew he used to analyse materials. You tilted your head at his request.

“Do you really need to know her molecular composition to tell she's a turtle like you?” you deadpanned.

“I just want to know for sure if she’s who I think she is–”

“Whoa!” came a voice from behind you suddenly. “You two sure work fast!”

You both turned around to see Leo, Mikey and Raph at the entrance of the lab.

“We leave to get food and you already had a baby?” Leo joked.

Heat spread on your face, burning on your cheeks.

“We- Wha-??” you stumbled over your words. The baby in your arms squealed in glee, apparently very on board with Leo’s comment.

“That’s not how it works, Leo,” Mikey said, grabbing his brother by the shoulder. “Babies aren't made in labs, they–”

“Yeah, they grow in a cabbage,” Raph interjected. “Everyone knows that.”

You all went silent.

“I’m obviously joking!” Raph called, Leo and Mikey erupting in laughter.

While you were busy trying to get your heated cheeks under control and everyone was making fun of Raph, Donnie had taken the little turtle from your arms and placed her into the chamber. He left the front panel open so she wouldn't feel trapped.

There was a loading bar on his screen, labelled „retrieving genetic material“. The bar progressed fairly quickly and after a couple of seconds the message appeared: „Analysis successful: Congrats, it‘s a girl!“ accompanied by the sound of a party blower, and followed by some caricatures of you and Donnie's faces surrounded by confetti.

At that, the laughter died down and all eyes fell on you.

“Oh my god, called it!” Leo exclaimed.

“Shut up,” you told him, but the embarrassment in your voice didn’t make it sound particularly stern. “Donnie, clearly that's not possible, right?”

As you asked this, you turned around to see the turtle in question averting his eyes, a bit tensed up with his shoulders slightly raised, and hands curled into fists. Under his mask you could see a furious blush reaching to his neck.

“Eh?” is all you managed to mutter out.

“Clearly she came from a different timeline or dimension, but…” Donnie started, bringing up his hands to his face to try and hide from you. “Yeah, it's true.”

Letting out a shaky sigh, he picked up the little turtle, who had been following the whole exchange with great interest, looking from one person to the other. Donnie then moved to sit where he had been earlier, at the table, with the little turtle on his lap, looking lost in thoughts.

You shooed the other three out of the room, much to their dismay, to get a moment alone with Donnie. He was being a bit uncharacteristically quiet and … non-rambly, science-wise.

Grabbing your chair, you brought it to the other side of the table to sit next to him. Meanwhile, the baby turtle had discovered Donnie’s abandoned project on the table and her focus shifted completely to it. From his lap she could reach properly and started investigating the device. Donnie didn't seem to mind at all, which was sounding yet another alarm in your head. Instead of reprimanding the smaller turtle to leave his things alone, as you would have expected, he watched with soft eyes how she skillfully turned the device in her little hands, babbling to herself as if trying to make sense of his contraption.

“Is… everything okay?” you asked softly, placing your hand on his arm.

“I’m just…” Donnie took a moment to find the right word. “Stunned, I guess.”

“How so?”

“I’ve tried imagining this a couple of times,” he started, scratching the back of his neck, then clicked his tongue. “Scratch that, I think about this all the time.”

“About what?” you questioned, and your heart skipped a beat; does he mean what you think he means?

“You’re really gonna make me say it out loud,” he mumbled, lifting his eyes to meet yours, then heaved a deep sigh. “About us. What life will be like with you by my side.”

He then gestured to the little turtle still tinkering with the device.

“And about having kids, apparently.”

“Y-you think about our future together?” you said almost in disbelief, your chest tightening at his confession.

“Of course I do,” he responded immediately. “I can't really imagine a future without you in it. O-only if you want to stay, that is.”

“Obviously I want to!” you said and held his hand. You were leaning in, about to give him a kiss, when the turtle tot exclaimed in glee. And you could have sworn it sounded like she was trying to say “eureka”.

Before Donnie could stop her, she detached two cables, turned the thing around and connected them on the opposite side. You three looked at it expectantly to do something, but nothing was happening, so she gave it a smack with a grunt, and that's when the lights went on and it started whirring.

“No way! You fixed it?” Donnie exclaimed happily and held the baby under her armpits, lifting her up, to which she cooed and blew a raspberry.

With a smile, you leaned your head on your hand, propped up on your elbow on the table.

“Well, it’s no wonder she’s smart,” you spoke. “She’s got good genes, after all.”

Donnie’s gaze came to meet yours and he smiled as well, one of his rare soft ones, and your heart started racing all over again.

Just as you were about to ask what you should do with her, there was some zapping behind you, the same zapping you had heard from the portal earlier.

“Donnie is gonna kill meee,” came a familiar voice as a figure crossed through the portal into the lab, and you couldn’t believe your eyes: it was an older version of Mikey.

When he spotted the baby in Donnie’s arms, his shoulders slumped visibly in relief.

“You little rascal!” Mikey scolded her. “I look away for three seconds and you go off running!”

The baby stuck out her tongue at him, trying to hide behind Donnie’s arm.

“Heh, looks like brains aren't the only thing she inherited from you,” you tell Donnie with a mischievous grin.

“Whatever could you be implying,” he remarked sarcastically.

Mikey went to pick up the baby but she cried out, her arms doing a grabby motion towards you, and you could feel your heart tightening a bit at the sight.

“Hey now, it’s okay, little one,” you tried comforting her as you held her tiny hands. “We’ll see each other again, I’m sure.”

Donnie tensed up his jaw as the baby was taken from him, and you couldn’t help the sad smile on your face. Mikey shot you an apologetic look, and turned back towards the portal.

“This never happened, we were never here,” he said over his shoulder with a wink, and stepped through the whirls.

The portal zapped closed again, and not a second later three heads peeked into the lab through the door.

“Is everything alright?” Raph asked.

“We heard voices just now, was someone here?” Leo questioned as he looked around.

“Where's the baby?!” Mikey said, bringing his hands to his head.

“It’s okay,” you calmed them down. “She's back where she's supposed to be.”

Donnie’s hand came to hold your own under the table.

“We’ll see her again,” he promised, more to you than the others. “Hopefully soon.”

And then you knew the heat that prickled your cheeks probably wasn’t gonna leave any time soon.

Never wanted you to hate me

Never Wanted You To Hate Me

I could feel my heart in my throat as I looked around to see that I was back at the big top. I looked down and I was still wearing the outfit that Buggy had me wear. “Luffy! Nami! Zoro!” I yelled. “Their gone sweetheart.” Buggy said as he walked out of the shadows. “They wouldn’t do that. Zoro wouldn’t do that to me.” I said. “Who do you think was the one to suggest leaving you.” Buggy said. “You’re lying.” I said. Buggy came over to me putting a hand on my cheek and started to stork it with his thumb. I slapped it away and made a run for it out of the big top. But as soon as I ran out I was back in. So I tried again but just kept coming back inside of the big top. “You can do that all day sweetheart but you’ll never get anywhere but right here with me.” Buggy said. “I don’t want to be here with you I want to be with my friends.” I said. “Some friends they are they abandoned you. They left you.” Buggy said. “Shut up.” I said. “They’re glad that they left you. How long do you think it would have been before they decided leave you here. Come on sweetheart think about look what rubber boy can do, your so called protector fights with three swords, that girl with the tangerine hair is the navigator. What did you bring to that team sweetheart. You were nothing but a liability to them.” Buggy said. “Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!” I yelled as I put my hands over my ears falling to the ground crying.

I felt hands gently remove mine from over my ears. But my eyes were still fixated on the ground. “Sweetheart I want you to look at me.” Buggy said. But I didn’t listen. “Sweetheart please I would like to see those beautiful eyes of yours.” Buggy said. As tears rolled down my face I looked up at Buggy. Buggy put his hands on my face wiping away my tears with his thumbs. “Don’t waste your tears over them sweetheart they don’t deserve them.” Buggy said. “Why wasn’t I enough for them?” I asked. “You were too good for them it was them that wasn’t enough to have someone like you to be a part of their crew. My crew and I will never make you feel like that. We will never make you feel like a liability.” Buggy said. I just collapsed into his chest crying and clinging on to him as if my life depended on it.

I let out a gasp as I shot up. “You okay there?” a voiced asked. I looked to see Nami. “Just a bad dream.” I said. “Do you want to talk about it?” Nami asked as she gave me a concerned look. “Not exactly right now but later.” I said. “Was it at least about that clown? You really went through it with him.” Nami said. “Yeah. Can you not tell Zoro please I know he’s still pissed about all that happened.” I said. “Don’t worry your secret is safe with me.” Nami said. “Thanks Nami.” I said giving her a small smile. “Why don’t you go get some fresh air yeah.” Nami suggested. I nodded as I got up from where I was laying. But as I did I could see some water. “Uh are we taking on water?” I asked. “Zoro said that the toilet so I came to check it out.” Nami said. “But we don’t have a toilet.” I said. “This is why you’re my favorite. You’re smarter than the two idiots out there.” Nami said. I smiled as I walked passed her and went outside.

“Hey Y/n look.” Luffy said showing me a jolly roger flag. Honestly it didn’t look to bad. “It looks really nice Luffy.” I said. “Can you help me convince Nami to let me hang it?” Luffy asked. “If were going to need a new ship it would be kind of pointless to hang it up right now. But I will when we get a new ship.” I said. “You mean it?” Luffy asked. I smiled and laughed a little. Luffy pulled me into a hug and lift me off the ground. “Okay. Okay. Put me down.” I said. Luffy did as I asked and I walked over sitting down next to Zoro. “Did you sleep okay?” Zoro asked. “It was decent.” I said. “You had a bad dream didn’t you.” Zoro said. “I can’t hide anything for you can I.” I said. “No. No you can’t. Did you want to talk about it.” Zoro said. “Nami just asked me the same thing. I told her that I will later just not now.” I said. “You better talk to me first when you do.” Zoro said. “No I think I’ll talk to Nami first.” I said. Zoro gave me a playful glare. “You know that I tell you anything first.” I said.

Then I saw Nami rush back out. “We’re taking in water. What did you do?” Nami asked Zoro. “I didn’t do anything.” Zoro said. “The way you’re clanging those swords around all the time you must have broken something.” Nami said, “If you’re such a good thief maybe you should’ve stolen a better boat.” Zoro said. “Guys. Guys. Guys. Okay crew meeting.” Luffy said. “Not a crew.” Both Nami and Zoro said. “Well I’m all ears.” I said. “We’re going to need a better ship to make it to the grand line. A real pirate ship. Worthy of the straw hat crew.” Luffy said. “Wait. Straw hat crew? Really?” Nami asked. “Yeah I thought it had a nice ring to it.” Luffy said smiling. “Demon has a nice ring to it. Headgear? Not scary.” Zoro said. “Who’s says pirates have to be scary?” Luffy asked. “Uh just about everyone apparently.” I said. “The point is we need a new ship. So where do we get one?” Luffy asked. Nami let out a sigh as she grabbed a near by book and started to look through it. “Our closest bet is the Gecko Islands. We can probably make it there before our ship sinks. Ditch this one and get a better one.” Nami said. “Good. With a working toilet.” Zoro said. “Great job navigator.” Luffy said to Nami. My mind went immediately to the dream I just had. “The girl with the tangerine hair is the navigator. What did you bring to the team sweetheart.” Buggys words echoed in my head. I felt someone nudge me. “I’m sorry what?” I asked. “You okay there?” Zoro asked. I forced a smile and nodded. “I’m fine.” I said.

By some sort of miracle we made it Gecko Island. Nami went ahead of us to start looking for a ship. While Zoro, Luffy and I took care of the old one. We made sure that no trace of us was left incase someone found it. But I notice that Luffy didn’t grab the flag he wanted to hang up. “Um Luffy you made sure to get rid or grabbed that jolly roger flag right?” I asked. “I think I might have left on the ship why?” Luffy asked. “Let’s just hope no one we’ve ran into finds it because it might lead them straight to us. Come on we got to go wait for Nami.” I said as we both went to catch up with Zoro.

We found him in the town square. I started to look at one of the marquee’s when I saw a wanted poster for Buggy. Luffy planted himself on the ground with his legs up on the marquee. I smiled as I looked down at him. “I’m going to laugh when someone steps on you.” I said. “You got to be kidding me. That clown was worth 15 millions berry. I should’ve stuffed his head in a bag and brought it with us.” Zoro said. “What marine would pay you that bounty anyway? You’re kind of a wanted man yourself now.” Luffy said. “Hmm. Didn’t think of that.” Zoro said. Then Luffy flipped himself around and stood up. “All the more reason to get to the grand line. Fresh start!” Luffy said patting Zoro on the shoulder. “Right.” Zoro said. I looked to the side to see Nami coming towards us. “Hey! You got us a ship?” Luffy said. “Working on it. Did you push the sloop out to sea like I told you?” Nami asked. “Yeah. No marines are gonna be following us here.” Luffy said. “Well we’re not gonna be here very long. Turns out syrup village is known for their ship building. Lots of options.” Nami said. “Well what are we waiting for then?” Luffy asked rushing off as Nami and Zoro followed him. I sat back as I took the wanted poster for Buggy down. “Y/n you coming or what.” Zoro said. “Coming.” I said as I quickly folded the poster up hiding it in the waistband my shorts.

I rushed as I caught up to Zoro as we followed Nami and Luffy to the ship yard. “Look at them all.” Luffy said. “How much do these cost?” Zoro asked. “If you have to ask you can’t afford it.” Nami said. “I can show this. I’m sure someone will be scared enough and give us a ship.” I said motioning to where Buggy claimed me. “Absolutely not. I’m going to find a way to get that covered up.” Zoro said. “I was joking Zoro geesh.” I said. “Okay so we need to get one with a very very impressive figurehead. At least two. No No three masts! And a really high crow’s nest.” Luffy said. “We are not gonna be able to sail a ship anywhere near that size. There’s only four of us.” Nami said. “Four of us right now.” Luffy said. “Well unless you can find another weird desperate soul to help us.” Nami said. “Speak for yourself.” Zoro said. “Listen. We are going to need something a little less flashy if we want to sneak out of here.” Nami said making Luffy stop. “You want to steal a ship?” Luffy asked. “How else did you expect us to get one?” Nami asked crossing her arms in front of her. “I don’t know. But we can’t steal one.” Luffy said. “What kind of pirate are you?” Nami asked. “A ship is not just a ship. It’s a part of our crew. We need to find the perfect one. And we’re gonna get it the right way.” Luffy said. “Okay pitch that to the salesman. I’m sure that’ll win him over.” Nami said. “Exactly.” Luffy said. I let out a small groan as I put my face in my hands. “This kid is going to kill us.” I said. “So what are we actually gonna do?” Zoro asked. “Find a ship and see how lax the security is around here.” Nami said. “Got it.” Zoro said. “We should catch up to Luffy before he offends the wrong person on accident.” I said. “That honestly sounds like something he will do.” Nami said.

We found him talking with a boy that seemed to be about his age. “There you are.” Nami said. “Guys! I found it. I found our ship and this guy will sell it to us.” Luffy said as he came back to join us. “Uh wait. What? Uh.” The boy said as he too came to join us. “Yeah! The ship we’ll take it.” Luffy said. “Technically she’s not for sale.” The boy said. “Huh?” Luffy said looking confused. “And technically I’m not a salesman.” The boy said. “Oh this just keeps getting better and better.” I said. “Do you even work here?” Nami asked. “Of course I do. I’m chief technician in charge of encrustation removal and aviary waste eradication.” The boy said. I brought a hand to my mouth holding back laughter. “Encru what?” Luffy asked. “He scrubs barnacles and cleans bird shit.” Zoro said. “He can’t help us.” Nami said. “Wait! Wait! Wait! I can help you. The owner of this ship just happens to be my closest friend in the world.” The boy said. “Your friend owns this ship?” Nami asked. “Not just this one. She owns the whole shipyard. She’s rich rich.” The boy said. “Oh.” Luffy said as he looked at us. “I’m sure you can strike a deal with her.” The boy said. “See.” Luffy said. “Well I guess it couldn’t hurt to say hello.” Nami said.

The boy introduced himself as Usopp as he lead us to where his friend lived. If this girl was even is his friend. Usopp brought us to a very big house. “I’ve never seen a house this big before.” Luffy said. “Impressive right? Kaya’s given me an open invitation to drop by anytime I want.” Usopp said. “Wow. All of this just for one person?” Luffy said. “Well she lives here with her butler and a few other staff.” Usopp said. As Luffy looked down the well that was in front of us. “Money really shows you who people truly really are. Most people only care about themselves and what’s theirs.” Nami said. “Sounds like someone I know.” Zoro said. “And a small staff makes for easy pickings.” Nami said. “Why? Gonna rob the blind?” Zorro asked. “At least a little blurry.” Nami said.

I found it odd that Usopp seemed to be leading us from the back. “So if you have an open invitation why are we going around the back way?” Luffy asked. “Oh I never use the front entrance. This is more of a VIP entrance reserved for special guests.” Usopp said. “This guy’s full of shit.” Zoro said. “Yeah. But as long as he gets us inside the house who cares?” Nami said. Then I could see two people one of which noticed us. “Oops. You know there’s actually a more exclusive entrance this way.” Usopp said turning around. But a knife was thrown landing in between Usopps feet. “The hell are you doing here Usopp?” The male asked as he made his way over to us. “Buchi buddy uh Kaya’s expecting me.” Usopp said. “Another one of your lies.” Buchi said as he grabbed Usopp. I watched this unfold with the others. “You ain’t welcome here and you know it.” Buchi said. “I know nothing of the sort. I’m here to give Kaya an extra special gift.” Usopp said. “Usopp!” A female voice said. I looked to see a girl who honestly looked very sick slowly walking towards us with a butler. But he looked very familiar like I’ve seen him somewhere before. I looked to Zoro who had the same expression as me. “What a wonderful surprise.” She said as she carefully walked down a few steps. “Kaya.” Usopp said as he got out of Buchi grip and walked towards her. So he was telling the truth. “Happy birthday.” Usopp said. “You remembered.” Kaya said. “Of course I did.” Usopp said. The butler cleared his throat pushing up his glasses with the palm of his hand. Which I found to be extremely weird. “Usopp. We’ve had this discussion. You mustn’t show up unannounced.” The butler said. “Nonsense Klahadore. Have you come to tell me another story? I do love hearing about your adventures.” Kaya said. Oh this poor poor girl. “Oh I’ll do you one better. I brought some of my crew.” Usopp said as he motioned to us. “Is he talking about us?” Luffy asked. “Play along Luffy. Look at the girl it’s obvious that she’s really sick. Just please play along.” I whisper. Luffy quickly nodded. “Yes we are part of Usopp’s crew.” Luffy said. “It’s so nice to meet you. You all must stay for dinner.” Kaya said as she smiled sweetly at us. “Miss Kaya it is a bit last minute. I’m afraid the kitchen hasn’t prepared for any extra guests.” Klahadore said. “Please Klahdore. It’s my birthday. Can’t be too much trouble can it?” Kaya asked. “Of course Miss Kaya. Anything for you.” Klahdore said. “All right! When do we eat?” Luffy asked clapping his hands together. “You don’t. Not dressed like that. Sham kindly show Usopp and his friends to the guest suites. You will bathe and change before dinner.” Klahadore said. “A bath does sound nice.” Nami said. “Tell me about it.” I said. “My friend here has a wound that I would like to get cleaned up properly if I can get some supplies I can do it.” Zoro said as he motioned to me. “Oh well I can do that for her. She can just come to me after her bath.” Kaya said. “It’s quite alright you have already done enough for us as it is. I really don’t mind if Zoro does it. Happy birthday by the way.” I said. “Oh okay only if you’re sure and thank you. Klahadore can you make sure her friend gets the supplies to clean her wound?” Kaya said. “Of course.” Klahadore said as we walked passed them.

As we followed behind the others Zoro looked behind us. “Tell me that you don’t think he looks familiar.” Zoro said quietly to me. “Yeah he does but I can’t put it together. But I can’t help but shake this bad feeling. We need to be careful around him and the two others. You saw how sick Kaya’s looks what if they have something to do with it.” I said. “How can you be sure about that she could be just some sick girl.” Zoro said. “I don’t know how to explain it. It just all seems off. You trust me on this right?” I asked. “When have I never trusted you. If I’m being honest you’ve been right on things like this more than you’ve been wrong. It’s kinda scary.” Zoro said. “That can’t be true.” I said smiling a little. “Wait I take that back you’ve actually never been wrong.” Zoro said. I laughed a little.

I was shown to my room and honestly it was a nice room. I took the poster of Buggy out and hid it under one of the pillows then headed to the bathroom that was attached. I started to run the water in the tub getting it to the right temperature. As the tub filled I found the towels and a robe. I set them to the side for after I was done. I took off the clothes I was wearing the top and shorts from the outfit that buggy had me wear still was under them. I pulled the right side of the bra to the side to check on the wound. It wasn’t bleeding anymore so at least that was good. I gently ran my finger tips over it wincing slightly. Oddly enough I actually started to miss him. “Stop it. Stop it. You don’t miss him. You can’t miss him. Look what he did to you. That dream you had meant nothing. They care about you. You are not a liability to them.” I said as I looked at myself in the mirror. I took off the bra and the shorts then slipped into the water. I let out a sigh of relief as I sunk in the water. I let myself relax for a bit before I started to clean off my body. But I made sure to gently clean around where Buggy carved his initial on me. The last thing I did was wash my hair. I heard a knock at the bathroom door. “Hey did you drown in there? Come on I want to find a cute dress for dinner and you’ll the only who would give good advice to what looks good and not good on me.” Nami said. “I’m just about done. But you got to be the one to explain to Zoro why I didn’t wait for him to clean my wound first.” I said standing up ringing the excess water from my hair grabbing one of the towels wrapping it around my body and grabbed another to finish drying my hair. “The stuff is already out here I can do it once you get out here.” Nami said. I finished drying off and put the robe on. I grabbed my clothes and walked out of the bathroom.

I saw that Nami too was wearing a robe. “I don’t know about you but I feel so much better.” Nami said. “I feel better too.” I said setting my clothes to the side. “How’s the wound looking?” Nami said as she started to get the stuff ready. “Well it stopped bleeding so at least that’s a good thing.” I said. “After we clean it we should take what’s left it could come in handy.” Nami said. I nodded. I slightly moved my robe so Nami can clean my wound. “Did you want to find something that will cover this?” Nami asked. “I’m not sure honestly. Might as well get questions out of the way sooner rather than later. If I can’t be comfortable with being able to show it now than I might never be.” I said. “I like that. You might have no problem with showing it but we both know Zoro will because he hates that he wasn’t able to stop it from happening.” Nami said. “I know. But he would have stopped me from protecting the kid.” I said. “You surprise me do you know that.” Nami said. “How so?” I asked. “Well Zoro makes it seem like that you need to be locked away just to keep you safe. But you will put your life on the line to protect others. You’re smart a lot smarter than most people I met. But you can be too sweet for your own good.” Nami said. “Maybe that’s why Buggy called me sweetheart.” I joked. Nami laughed a little. “If you ask me I would have to say that he maybe developed a crush on you. He treated you very differently than he treated us. There finished.” Nami said. “Thanks Nami. Come on let’s go find something to wear.” I said standing up fixing the robe.

We walked into the very large closet. “How much time do we have again?” I joked. “You’re telling me.” Nami said. We started looking through the many dresses. “Here try this.” Nami said handing me a navy blue dress. I took the dress from her going behind one of the curtains and changed into the dress. It was velvet. Which felt a little weird against my skin. It was also off the shoulder with long sleeves and a slit down the side. I walked out from behind the curtain to shown Nami. “Well?” I asked. “It’s cute. It’s tight in the right places.” Nami said. “The velvet feels a bit weird on my skin though.” I said. “So a maybe if you can deal with it for however long this dinner will last. I’m going to try this one.” Nami said showing me a dark purple dress with a shaw. I started to look through other dresses. I found a red dress with straps that look that might cover Buggy initial but it couldn’t tell unless I tried it on. “Well?” Nami asked posing. It honestly looked good on her. “It looks really good. Maybe lose the shaw.” I said. “I really would like to keep my shoulders covered.” Nami said. “Oh okay let me try this one on then I’ll help you find something.” I said showing her the red dress. “Oh that’s cute.” Nami said. I smiled as I went to try it on. The straps actually rested on my arms. But I liked it. I walked out to show Nami. “Wow that looks great on you.” Nami said. “There you two are.” Luffy said as he walked into the room. “What do you think Luffy?” Nami asked motioning to my dress. “It’s a nice color.” Luffy said. “Really that’s all you have to say. You’re not going to say anything about how great it looks on her.” Nami said. “It’s okay Nami I kinda figure that getting opinions on how the dresses look would be easier said than done. Here try this.” I said as I found a dress with short sleeves and handed it to her. “It’s not that bad.” Nami said taking the dress from me and went to try it on. “Luffy try to be of more help to us please. Us girls actually don’t mind hearing that something looks good on us every now and then especially if it’s a dress.” I said. “Got it.” Luffy said as he laid down on a bench and looked up.

I went back to looking through the dresses as I waited on Nami to try on the one I gave her. “Why would anyone even need this many clothes?” Luffy asked. “It’s not about need with these people. It’s about want.” Nami said. “What are we even supposed to wear?” Luffy asked. “Anything you want. When are you going to get the opportunity to wear things this nice? Well. What do you think?” Nami asked as she came out to show us the dress. “I like it way better than the other one.” I said as I went behind the curtain to try on another dress. “You look like Nami.” Luffy said. “Luffy want did I say.” I said as I took the dress off. I heard Nami let out a sigh. “Hey Zoro! What are you going to wear?” Luffy asked. “Something black.” Zoro said. “You know I just might wear a black dress just to be mean.” I said. “I thought I told you to wait on me.” Zoro said walking over to where I was. “Um not the best time Zoro my boobs are out.” I said. I could hear Nami and Luffy laughing. “How edgy you two.” Nami said. I finished putting on the next dress. It was a tight fitting dress that was black and red with a see through part at the bottom that started at my knees. “Hey does that butler seem familiar to you guys?” Zoro asked. “Yeah I think he was at the last dinner party I attended.” Nami said. “I swear Y/n and I seen him somewhere.” Zoro said. “How about this one?” I said walking out to show them. “It’s too tight.” Zoro said. “Zoro’s right it is a little to tight.” Luffy said. “How’s this?” Nami asked coming out in a black dress with a jacket. “Still Nami.” Luffy said. “I said I’m wearing black.” Zoro said. “She’s wearing black too.” Nami said. “She’s not going to wear that one it’s too tight.” Zoro said. “Well I think it looks great on you Y/n.” Nami said. “Thanks Nami at least you’re being helpful.” I said. “I can think of someone else who would have been helpful too.” Nami said smirking at me. I went back to looking for another dress to try on. I found another black dress that look a bit more revealing than the one I was wearing. I smirked as I went to try it on. “I feel kind of bad for Kaya. All this stuff. All this space. It’s gotta make a person feel lonely.” Luffy said. “Rich people don’t have to same emotion we do. This stuff doesn't make her feel lonely. It makes her feel important.” Nami said. “Well Usopp likes her. And she invited us to dinner. I’m sure we can work out a way to get that ship.” Luffy said. I finished putting on the dress and it was more revealing. “How about this one?” I asked walking out to show the others. “Yes. No.” Both Nami and Zoro said. “Come on what’s wrong with this one?” Nami asked. “It’s to revealing.” Zoro said. “Maybe Nami was right Buggy would have been more helpful than you two are being.” I said grabbing a random dress and storming off to try it on. I wiped away tears that started to form in my eyes. “You two need to find something to wear so you can leave us to it.” Nami said. It wasn’t long before I heard Zoro and Luffy leaving the room.

“You okay back there?” Nami asked. “I’m fine.” I said as I finished trying on the next dress which was a sliver color. “Don’t let Mr. Moody get to you. I’m guessing that he’s never seen you get this dressed up. I happened to love that last dress on you.” Nami said. I smiled as I came out to show her the sliver dress. “Thanks Nami. How do this one look.” I asked. “It looks okay. But the last one looked better.” Nami said. “You really got the boys to leave quick.” I said looking through the dresses. “Well I figure if Zoro stayed any longer you would give up and not go to dinner making Luffy and I drag you out when it’s time to leave.” Nami said. “You’re probably right.” I said. I grabbed a Chinese style dress and handed it to Nami. “Here try this one.” I said handing her the dress. “If you try this one.” Nami said handed me a lightish purple one. We both went to try on the dresses. “I actually really like this one.” Nami said. “I’m glad this one isn’t that bad either.” I said. I finished putting on the dress and went out to show Nami who was also done. The dress Nami was wearing did really look good on her. “Nami that looks amazing on you. You have to wear it.” I said. “You really think so?” Nami asked. “Yes I do.” I said. “What about you. Found something you really like yet? Ignore what Zoro said. You’ve looked good in all of them so far.” Nami said. “I really like the red one but maybe I should try on few more before I make a decision.” I said.

Nami helped me find three other blue dresses that were a different shades of dark blue. One of the dark blue dresses had a large slit on one side, another was tied at the side and showed a lot of skin, the last one had sleeves that hung loosely on my arms and also had a slit in it. The last one was a black dress that had an opening on the stomach and a slit in it. I honestly really loved the last blue dress I tried on so I put that one back one. “I was hoping that you pick that one. It really does look beautiful on you.” Nami said. “Thanks Nami.” I said. “Us girls have to stick together.” Nami said.

We finished getting ready together. I let Nami do my hair she put it into a single braid. “There now look at you. Aren’t you beautiful.” Nami said. “Let’s go down stairs before Zoro says something.” I said. “Let’s go.” Nami said as we left my room. We walked down the stairs thankfully Zoro wasn’t down yet but Luffy and Usopp were. “Well don’t you ladies look beautiful.” Usopp said. We both started to laugh a little. “Thanks.” I said. “At least someone is telling her that she looks beautiful.” Nami said. “Oh now that’s a tragedy. Who told her that she didn’t look beautiful.” Usopp said. “Zoro.” Nami said. “Don’t worry I’ll have some words with him.” Usopp said walking away to find Zoro. “Zoro is going to kill him isn’t he.” I said. “Yep.” Nami said.

A few minutes later Usopp was dragging Zoro over to me “Well I’ll let you two talk it out.” Nami said as she walked away. “Nami.” I said. “You two need to talk. I don’t want to have to deal with you two mad at each other.” Nami said. Usopp shoved Zoro to me. It was honestly awkward between us and it was never awkward between us. “You look nice.” Zoro said. “Are you sure it’s not to revealing?” I asked. “I didn’t mean to make you upset. I just never seen you wearing anything like that before. I guess I just didn’t know how to react.” Zoro said. “It’s okay I forgive you.” I said. “Why don’t you take a seat and I’ll get you a drink.” Zoro said. “Acting like a gentleman I see.” I said. “Don’t get use to it.” Zoro said as I took a seat on a couch while he went to go get drinks. Zoro came back handed me a drink as he sat down next to me. Just then Kaya came down with the stairs with the butler. “I think I figure out where I’ve seen him.” Zoro whispered to me. “You hunted him didn’t you?” I asked. “Stay here.” Zoro said. I nodded. Zoro got up and went to talk to Klahadore. It was only a few minutes before he came back. “Well?” I asked. “He swore it wasn’t him.” Zoro said. “You don’t believe him.” I said. “I don’t.” Zoro said. “Shall we all move to the dining room.” Klahadore said. “Yes.” Luffy yelled excitedly. I laughed shaking my head. Zoro got up grabbing his swords with one hand and held out the other to me. I put my hand in his as he helped me up.

Kaya smiled as she walked up to me. “Y/n don’t you look beautiful.” Kaya said. “Thank you. You look beautiful too.” I said. “Thank you. When my mom was your age that was my dad’s favorite dress on her. I’m sure I can say to same about Zoro.” Kaya said. “Oh. We.” I said before Zoro interrupted. “Yes I do. I don’t get to see her wear a dress that often but this has to be my favorite.” Zoro said. “I’m sure that you two will have the same love has my parents once had.” Kaya said has she walked passed us. “What was that?” I asked quietly. “Like you said she’s sick play along. Now come lets go eat.” Zoro said. “Hate you.” I said. “No you don’t.” Zoro said.

I sat on one side of the table with Zoro on my right and Usopp on my left. The female staff member was about to pour me a glass of wine. “Oh no wine for me please.” I said. “Do you not like wine Y/n? I’m sure we can get you something else.” Kaya asked. “I’m just not a big alcohol drinker. I never really like the taste rather it be wine or beer.” I said. “Well there’s nothing wrong with that.” Kaya said. “Besides who else will take care of Zoro when he has too many.” I said laughing a little. Which made Kaya laugh a little.

At first it was nothing but small talk. “I’d love to try the fish tonight.” Kaya said. “I’m sorry Miss Kaya but that is not possible.” Klahadore said. “Maybe just a small piece?” Kaya asked hopefully. “Now you know that certain foods can affect your constitution. Here Buchi has prepared your special soup.” Klahadore said as Buchi placed a bowl infront of Kaya. “Kaya it’s your birthday. You should be able to eat what you want.” Nami said. “Miss Kaya’s medical condition necessitates that I closely monitor her dietary needs.” Klahadore said. “Does it mean you also speak for her?” Nami asked. “But you’re not a doctor. You can grow out of some medical conditions. Kaya will never know unless she tries foods that she hasn’t eaten since she was told about the medical condition.” I said. Klahadore glared at both Nami and I. “I’ll take her fish.” Luffy said raising his hand. “Luffy isn’t there something that you wanted to talk to Kaya about?” Usopp asked. “Oh yes! Usopp told me that you own the whole shipyard.” Luffy said. “Well actually my parents founded the shipyard and Merry’s been running the business since well since they passed. But all of that’s about to change. Tonight at midnight I will become the sole owner.” Kaya said. I happened to look at Klahadore and the two other staff members their expression slightly change. “Ah. Well that’s great because we want to buy a ship from you.” Luffy said taking a drink. “I see. Usopp mentioned that you’re sailors.” Kaya said smiling at Usopp. “Nope not sailors.” Luffy said. “Luffy.” I said motioning for him to stop. “We’re pirates.” Luffy said. I put my head in my hands. I hear Usopp choke on his drink. “This ought to be good.” Zoro said. “I swear this kid is going to put me in an early grave.” I said. “Pirates?” Kaya asked. “Yep. We haven’t sailed together for very long but we have already defeated an evil clown who was strangely fond of Y/n, raided a marine base, and taken down a captain with an axe for a hand.” Luffy said. “These sound a lot like your adventures Usopp.” Kaya said looking to Usopp. “Yeah that’s. That’s crazy.” Usopp said. “Oh yeah. And we’re just getting started.” Luffy said as he stood up getting on top of the table. “Luffy get down now.” I said. “Ohhh you made her get at the mom voice.” Zoro said. I glared over at Zoro. “I do not have a mom voice.” I said. “Yeah you do.” Zoro said. “What are you doing? Get down from there at once!” Klahadore said. “Being a pirate has been my dream for as long as I can remember. And I’m finally making it a reality. We’re heading out to the grand line where even more adventures await us. And at the end of the journey I’m gonna find the ultimate treasure the one piece and become king of the pirates.” Luffy said walking across the table to Kaya. “Monkey D Luffy I swear to god if you don’t get down from this table right now I will take away your hat for a week.” I said. “See mom voice.” Zoro said. “Not. The. Time.” I said. “You’re serious.” Kaya said. Luffy handed Klahadore his drink as he bent down putting his hands on Kaya’s shoulders. “Kaya you have a beautiful ship out there. A caravel with sheep figurehead. It spoke to me. That’s the ship we need to follow our dreams. I promise you we’ll take care of it. Maintain it. Treat it like any other member of our crew because a ship is also a home.” Luffy said. “That will be quite enough! I should’ve known Usopp would bring riffraff to our doorstep.” Klahadore it’s okay. I.” Kaya said as she started to cough. “Now look what you’ve done. You’ve upset Miss Kaya. All of you out of this house at once!” Klahadore yelled. “Actually she was just fine until you started to yell.” I pointed out. Which made Klahadore glare at me more. “No. It’s late. Let them stay the night.” Kaya said. “As you wish Miss Kaya but they are out first thing in the morning.” Klahadore said as he helped Kaya up and out of the dining room.

“That went pretty well. Don’t you think?” Luffy said. “Get down now.” I said. “Alright. Alright.” Luffy said getting down from the table taking off his hat hiding it behind his back. “I won’t take it away this time but you better listen to me next time.” I said. Luffy nodded as he put his hat back on with a smile. “See mom voice told you.” Zoro said. “I don’t have a mom voice.” I said. “Yeah you do.” Everyone agreed. “I hate all of you.” I said getting up and made my way back to my room.

I took off my dress gently setting it to the side as I put my clothes back on. I heard a knock at my door. “Am I good to come in or do you have your boobs out.” Nami said jokily. “You’re good their put away.” I said. Nami opened the door and walked in. I noticed that she had a pillowcase. “I’m going to go find stuff to steal wanna come?” Nami asked. “Sure. Nothing better to do. I’m afraid if I sleep I might have another dream about him.” I said. “Come on then we can talk about the first one or if you’re still not ready we do have to.” Nami said. “Thanks Nami.” I said smiling. I followed Nami out of my room as we made our way around the mansion as Nami picked random things and put them in the pillowcase. Once we heard footsteps getting close we went into the closest room.

The light turned on scaring both Nami and I. “Nami? Y/n?” Kaya asked. Nami hid the pillowcase behind her back. “What are you doing? Is everything all right?” Kaya asked. “Sorry this house is so massive. We were just trying to find the bathroom.” Nami said. “With a pillowcase?” Kaya said. Nami brought the pillowcase out and set it to the side. “So you two are pirates after all.” Kaya said getting up from bed and sitting in a nearby chair. “I hate pirates. But I am who I am. And I won’t apologize for that. Y/n didn’t take anything it was all me. She just wanted to avoid sleeping.” Nami said. “To be honest I find some of the décor to be a bit gaudy. I’d prefer to donate it to charity.” Kaya said. “I’m not charity.” Nami said. “No of course not. I simply meant what’s the point in having so much if you can’t share it with others. Like those in need. Family. Friends.” Kaya said. “So we’re friends now? You don’t even know us?” Nami said. “Usopp does and that’s a start.” Kaya said motioning for us to sit down. Nami sat down on the couch and I sat down on another chair next to the couch. “So what do we do now? Have a sleepover? Do each other’s makeup?” Nami asked. Kaya laughed a little before having another coughing fit. “Kaya are you okay?” Nami asked. Kaya shook her head as she looked at us sadly. “Not you both too.” Kaya said. “What?” Nami asked. “Everyone’s so careful around me. Like one wrong move and I’ll break. I don’t want your pity.” Kaya said. “Well you won’t get it then.” Nami said. Kaya smiled at us.

“Y/n why did Nami said you wanted to avoid sleeping?” Kaya asked. “Oh I guess that the events that went down between me and the clown Luffy mention is still effecting me.” I said. “What happened?” Kaya asked. “To start he held us hostages for a bit. But he treated me very different than he did the others. He and his crew used a smoke cloud that made us passed out. The other three woke up in a wooden box. But I woke up on his lap to him poking me asking me to see my beautiful eyes. Like Luffy said he was fond of me for some reason. He or at least someone in his crew changed me into this revealing jester outfit. He wanted me to become apart of his crew but Zoro is protective of me.” I said. “He was going to kill him where he stood. Zoro was pissed when he saw the clown put his hands all over her.” Nami said. “I can tell. Zoro loves you so much.” Kaya said. “Zoro doesn’t love me in that way but he does love me.” I said. “Oh I’m sorry I just thought that you two were together.” Kaya said. “No it’s okay. I just remind him of a friend that he knew. Something bad happened and he lost her so he thinks protecting me in the way he couldn’t for his friend will make up for it.” I said. “That’s actually a very sweet thing to hear. What else happened with this clown?” Kaya asked. “He was very dead set on keeping me. He tried to get Luffy to tell him where he had hid the map to the grand line. But when Luffy didn’t he was going to hurt someone in the crowd that he was holding hostage. I couldn’t live with myself if that happened so I suggested to him to crave his initial on me if I could handle the pain without making a sound then he wouldn’t hurt anyone.” I said as I move my shirt so Kaya can see it. “That’s awful.” Kaya said. “I don’t see it that way. I would rather it be who got hurt before one of them. The reason I’m avoiding sleep is a had a dream where I was back there with him. He told me that the others left me because I was just a liability to them. That I brought nothing to the team.” I said as I wiped tears from my eyes. “That not true you know that right Y/n.” Nami said. “I don’t even know what I bring to the team Nami. So tell me what I bring to the team.” I said. “You protect people. You protected that kid and the towns people.” Nami said. “It’s not like Zoro would let me do something like that again.” I said. “That might be true for right now but maybe if you prove to him that he doesn’t need to protect you as much. I know that I haven’t known you too for long but I thinks he knows that protecting you has much as he is now won’t do you any good.” Nami said. “It does make me feel trapped but I know he doesn’t mean to do it on purpose.” I said. “Then you should tell him Y/n. Making you feel trap might do more harm than good.” Kaya said. “I will I promise.” I said. “Don’t worry I’ll make sure the two of them talk.” Nami said. “Why do we talk about a different boy now.” I said. “We already talked about all the boys.” Kaya said. “Not all of them theres one that we have talked about yet.” Nami said. “Who haven’t we talked about?” Kaya asked. “Usopp.” Nami and I both said smiling. “Oh.” Kaya said smiling a little. “So are you and Usopp a thing?” I asked. “Oh. Um. Usopp and me? No. No. We’ve know each other for years. Ever since his mother died. He didn’t have anybody so my parents gave him a job at the shipyard. He likes to come around and tell me all about his brave exploits and his grand adventures. And truth is they make me feel better.” Kaya said. “Your parents what happened to them?” Nami asked. “They um. They died at sea. All these years and it still takes my breath away. I couldn’t even go though their belongings. Just locked up the memories in the east wing where their bedroom was.” Kaya said. “I’m sorry.” Nami said. “Have you lost anyone close to you?” Kaya asked. “No.” Nami said. “I’m jealous.” Kaya said. “Said the rich girl.” Nami said. “You’re not very good at this friends thing are you?” Kaya asked. Then all three of us started to laugh. “No I guess I’m not.” Nami said.

The three of us talked of a bit longer. I told them about how I met Zoro and what my life was like before I met Luffy and Nami. I really didn’t talk much about my life before Zoro. “Why don’t you two join me for breakfast tomorrow? Zoro and Luffy too. We can discuss a deal for the caravel.” Kaya asked as the three of us got up. “I’d like that. This may not be my place but don’t let Klahadore or anyone for that matter run life. You’re stronger than you think.” Nami said. “Yeah. I know I don’t know him like you do Kaya but I don’t trust him and I think he’s hiding something. You can even ask Zoro yourself I’m never wrong when it comes to being able to tell a person’s character.” I said. “I appreciate that. Good night Nami. Good night Y/n.” Kaya said. “Good night.” Nami said. “Good night Kaya.” I said. “Don’t forget your pillow Nami.” Kaya said with a small smile. Nami grabbed the pillowcase as we walked out.

“Well I might try to get some sleep what about you?” I asked. “I’m going to put the stuff back.” Nami said. I gave her a small smile and then made my way back to my room. “Hey Y/n.” Nami said making me stop. I turned to look at her. “Yeah Nami.” I said. “I think I know of another thing that you bring to the team.” Nami said. “What is it?” I asked. “You’ll be able to tell if someone be helpful or not. I don’t think I’ve met many people who can tell a persons character like the way you said you can.” Nami said. “I guess I found my own way of being able to tell when you’ve been with a pirate hunter as long as I’ve been with Zoro.” I said. “Yeah. If you want to learn a bit about on how to defend yourself I can teach you.” Nami said. “As long as you’re the one to tell Zoro he’s out of the job I would love that.” I said. Making both of us laugh a little. “Yeah even I don’t think he would stop.” Nami said. “Yeah he won’t. Night Nami.” I said. “Night Y/n.” Nami said. I walked back to my room and went to lay down. I put my hand under the pillows to see if the wanted poster of Buggy was still there. Thankfully it was. I unfolded it as I looked at his face. “Maybe that dream was wrong. Maybe I can prove I’m not a liability. But I. I’m just not ready to admit to the others that I miss you just yet.” I said. Then I frantic knock was at my door. I quickly put the poster back under the pillow and Nami rushed in. “Nami what’s wrong?” I asked as I sat up. “You were right. You were right about Klahadore.” Nami said. “How did you find this out?” I asked. “I went to find Zoro and Luffy. I found Luffy in the kitchen passed out. I tried to wake him but I heard Klahadore and the other two coming so I hid. I overheard that Klahadore and the other two have been poisoning Kaya and they plan to kill her after midnight so they can have her money.” Nami said. I jumped up from bed and rushed to Nami. “We need to get to Kaya first. We need to get her out of here and into somewhere safe.” I said. We both rushed out of my room and ran to Kaya’s room without trying to make much noise to alert Klahadore that we were on to him.

CHAPTER 3: GUIDING LIGHT

To say you were disappointed when the magical red string hadn’t reappeared on your ring finger when you awoke in the morning was putting it lightly…

You had tried to convince yourself the night before that it wouldn’t have been a big deal if it hadn’t returned, but really, you were devastated. You canceled all the plans you had for the day and relinquished your responsibilities for the time being. Feeling numb to your mental and physical needs, it was easy to stay in bed for the majority of the day. You just couldn’t be bothered to do anything after taking such a substantial blow like that.

Somehow, you had squandered a seemingly foolproof opportunity at finding your one true love. Although the myth did insinuate that you were ‘soulmates’; perhaps it meant you would get another chance in another lifetime but you couldn’t be certain. Even if that was the case, it didn’t make you feel any better about losing your shot in this timeline.

It just wasn’t fair… There was no guide on how to approach this situation. No fairy godmother had presented herself and instructed you on what to do. You didn’t suddenly receive clairvoyant insight along with the mythical thread. How were you possibly supposed to know how to go about it? Yeah, now that you had time to reflect, the string did give you a small indicator of direction, but it had been the middle of the night and you lived in New York. Any sane person knew better to go out after dark, alone, in the crime ridden state.

And it wasn’t like the string had GPS. You had no clue how far away your soulmate had been last night. They might’ve been somewhere you physically couldn’t have commuted to, hell, they could’ve been outside of New York for all you knew! It was rational to be cautious about going out and finding them right away… At least, that’s what you were telling yourself just to ease your mind. You did your best to fill your head with reasonable excuses to keep the demeaning thoughts out.

It was difficult to not be hard on yourself, but there was nothing that could be done about it now… Nothing other than to let your sadness flow, which you had been successful with as your pillow was thoroughly wet with tears. Still, as much as you wanted to let the magical occurrence go, there was still the smallest spark of hope within you that it would show itself once more. If it were to give you one more chance to find your soulmate, you wouldn’t hesitate. It wouldn’t matter how far you’d have to travel or what obstacles you would have to overcome, you’d find them. —————————————————– It was a small relief not having to worry about hiding the red string of fate from his other two brothers when Donatello returned to the lair, but it didn’t outweigh the worry he had for it not reappearing. Normally, he’d run multiple tests when he was trying to validate the credibility of something, but he hadn’t wanted to alarm anyone by returning late to his home. He could trust his cool colored brother to not be overbearing about his predicament, but the other two warm colored brothers?…Raphael probably wouldn’t bother him too much about it, but Mikey would surely be insistent.

He’d tell them soon enough, but after he had scouted you out on his own. Because even if you were his soulmate, there were many things to take into account, for both your sake and his families. The main factor being that you were more than likely human. It was easy for him to grow and maintain an interest in humans, especially when his father had appointed him and his brothers as protectors of the species. But most humans did not share the same interest for them. Sure, they eventually came across a handful of humans who liked and trusted them, but it was still a very small handful. After all–

They only had six fingers as opposed to the human ten.

Having been accustomed to life at night, the daylit hours were generally spent sleeping, however Donatello knew the task would be pointless. There was no way he could shut off his mind and fall into the rem cycle of sleep when this kind of phenomenon had happened to him. He couldn’t stop thinking about when the red string had first appeared to him tonight. All the articles he had read about the urban legend. You…

Were you man or woman? Or did you prefer to not identify as such? What was your current occupation? He supposed you shared the same or similar interest considering that you were soulmates. He could also assume that you lived relatively close by the information he had learned and how the string tried to direct him to your location, but he wondered if you had always been a New Yorker? Perhaps you had been born and raised elsewhere and recently moved to the Big Apple.

Were you thinking about him right now like he was thinking about you?... The idea stirred butterflies in his stomach and he felt silly. But also– happy. There was someone out there in the world for him. A seven-foot tall, genetically mutated box turtle who practiced ninjutsu and loved pizza. Being what he was, he never thought he’d have the chance at a relationship, and when his father had said he was destined, he figured it was only to serve the human race. Not to be loved.  —————————————————– You would think that with all the crying you had done you wouldn’t have any fluids left in your body to have to use the restroom, and yet your bladder had been nagging at you for the past thirty minutes to go. It was easy to ignore your appetite and thirst as you napped the day away, but you weren’t depressed enough to self-inflict a kidney infection. Begrudgingly, you got your ass out of bed and did your business.

Not-so-surprisingly, getting up had motivated you to tend to other needs. After having stretched your back and limbs, you made way to your kitchen. Downing a full cup of water in a matter of seconds before finding something in your pantry to nibble on for a snack while you placed an order on a delivery app for food. Pizza had always been a great comfort to you every other time your problems came crashing down. Surely it would be able to lift your spirits in this scenario as well, at least a little bit.

You had instructed your delivery driver to leave your order at your front door, but when the application informed you that they were dropping off your food a message followed shortly after.

[Can’t find your door. Can you meet me outside?] 8:58 PM

A low frustrated sigh hissed out of your nostrils. How hard was it to fucking read? You grumbled internally but walked off to the front of your residence. There you had realized you hadn’t flipped on the switch for the outside light after putting in your order and you winced at your passive-aggressive remark. At least you hadn’t said it out loud, so no real harm done. However, opening your door and finding the delivery driver standing right outside it made the corner of your lip twitch in annoyance.

Couldn’t find the door, huh?

“Sorry about that.” They held out a pizza box for you to take.

“No problem,” you lied and took the cardboard container into your hands only to feel a tug of resistance from the other end. Confused, you arched an eyebrow at the delivery driver, but their gaze didn’t meet yours.

Their attention had been pulled below. “What’s that?” They pointed to your hand with a single digit.

You declined your head, following their direction until you found the source of their curiosity and your heart jumped in your chest.

Red shimmered brightly in the reflection of your glossy eyes. You lifted your ring finger hand, bringing it closer to your body for inspection. You held your breath as you carefully wiggled the digit, testing the authenticity of the apparition as to not get your hopes up. Your chest seized anxiously when the crimson lace around your finger didn’t waver and seconds later you wheezed out a shaky breath.

It had returned.

“Are you okay?” The delivery driver leaned into your view, snapping you out of your thoughts.

Your other hand let go of the pizza box, and it slipped out of their hands, falling to the ground with a loud thud. They flinched in surprise and startled again when you slammed your front door shut behind you.

“Uh–” Was all they were able to get out before you thanked them for their service and pushed past them.

Within a few steps, your bare feet met the cold hard cement of New York’s’ sidewalks but you barely noticed it. Your pounding heart overpowered all sensations at the moment. There had been a very small voice in your head telling you to turn back. Not to give up, but to be rational about the situation. You were going out into New York, barefooted, in your lounging clothes, you hadn’t locked your door, you didn’t have your phone, and it was nine o’clock at night!! But there was no way you were turning back now.

It didn’t matter if your feet hurt, if you weren’t properly dressed for the occasion, if someone broke into your home and stole your stuff, or if there was little light to guide you in search. You were not going to miss your chance at meeting your soulmate again.

You felt your heart skip a beat when the tail end of your string changed in directions and your breath caught in your throat. Turning sharply on your feet, you began to pick up pace. The sounds of your steps growing louder and louder as your stride changed from walking briskly to full on running. You weaved between the few bystanders still out at this time at night. Each and every one of them breaking their necks to stare you down as you passed them by. You probably looked like a crazy person, running bare foot through the streets with your arm extended out in front of you, but so what?

Crazier things had gone on in New York.

It wasn’t long before your lungs began to burn and exhaustion forcibly slowed your pace, but you kept moving. As long as the crimson string existed and led the way, you had no plans of stopping. However, when the thread began to change in hue your stride slowed naturally due to intrigue. The color faded to an orangish-yellow and eventually shined a bright gold. The spectacle brought you to a full-on stop, to which you realized was very much needed by the hard breaths you were swallowing.

Suddenly, your red string of fate was now golden. Not only that, but the string itself was shining brighter than it ever had before and the tether of the tail seemed to be getting… thinner. As if you were coming to the end of the stra– Taking a deep breath you lifted your head and looked around you. At some point of your search, you had ended up moving from the public streets of New York to a backstreet alleyway. From what you could see, there was no one around, but your string of fate was still pointing off in the distance. Sucking in another breath through your nose, you continued onward. —————————————————– While he was confined underneath New York during the daylit hours, Donatello spent his time putting a trajectory of possible coordinates of your location using the knowledge he already had. Frankly, it wasn’t much to go off of but with his intellect he was able to narrow down his search to three possible locations you resided at. As long as the string returned to his finger when he resurfaced, he would be able to pinpoint your exact location.

Fortunately for him, the crimson thread returned before he even breached the ground level of New York. A small smile of content crossed his face seeing its reappearance. You were close, and that filled his chest with tingles of excitement.

Following the tail end of the lace, he recorded his steps into the multitool on his right arm along the way. In the event that he was unable to meet with you personally; say, you were in the company of others, he wanted to make sure he knew the way back to you for when the time was right. A twinge of concern scratched his mind at the thought of you not being alone. He had risked his chance of not finding you by waiting all day before going out on his search. The possibility of not having a moment to himself with you annoyed him.

However, that worry deepened when he considered the opposing angle. What if you were out at this time by yourself? Even with his prowess and size, he generally did not go out on patrol alone. As much as he loved New York, the city just wasn’t safe after dark. Although, he assumed you had managed to be safe up until this point, that fact didn’t stop him from subconsciously picking up his pace.

He did as he would any other outing on the surface and traveled by rooftop. It was the safest and stealthiest option for someone like him, even in the later hours of the night. Jumping down from one building to a shorter one, the top of his mask pushed upwards behind his glasses as he noticed a change to the string. The stark red of the magical lace had begun to dull into an orangish-yellow hue.

Immediately, he stopped in his tracks to record the findings into his multitool and consider what had caused the change. There had been no mention of the string changing colors in all the information he had gathered on the phenomenon, and the two times it had shown itself to him before, it was red. Naturally, he wondered if the shift in color was a good or bad thing. From a scientific standpoint, yellow was often a representation of happiness, hope and spontaneity. Which was certainly the case at this point.

Having to use the fire escape of the building he was currently on to cross to another, the string flared in vibrance as he descended the stairs. The sudden change in brightness caught him by surprise and he recoiled from the light, shielding his eyes with his other hand. Narrowing his eyes to help them adjust to new source of light, an epiphany came to him. He turned his body to look back at the building he was just on and then to the ground below him in silent thought before moving.

He traveled downwards until he met the bottom of the stairs and then jumped off of them from there. The bottom of his boots making a loud thud when they planted firmly against the concrete ground of the alleyway. Slowly, he rose to standing straight, and his gaze immediately went to the string on his ring finger.

Still, yellow. No… Gold actually.

It didn’t make any sense. The night before he had been on the surface it was red, and down in the sewers it was red as well. The sudden change in altitude shouldn’t have had any effect on its hue in theory.

Turning over his hand for further inspection he noticed the thread seemed to be… thinning? Concern prodded at his mind at the idea of the string vanishing again, but the feeling quickly turned into confused curiosity when he realized only the tail end of the string was slimming out. The band around the base of his finger looked as if it was becoming denser and he swore he could feel a subtle hint of weight where it resided.

Without thought, he raised his other hand and pinched his thumb and pointer together to touch the apparition, but his test was cut short by the sound of hard breaths and padded footsteps approaching. His eyes grew at the sounds, his glasses amplifying the surprised expression. It was then that he realized that all the current changes in the string wasn’t due to change in elevation. It was because he was getting close… To you.

How could he be so stupid? Of course, that was it! But by the volume of your approach, there wasn’t time to reprimand himself on his ignorance. You were coming, and fast!

The excitement he had initially felt going out tonight to find you turned into all out panic realizing that it was actually going to come to fruition within a few seconds. What was going to happen when you came down a dark alleyway and suddenly found a giant mutant beast standing within the middle of it? Surely, the only response you would have would be one of fear. Even if you two were soulmates, it would be a reasonable reaction. Hell, he’d be a little thrown off if you didn’t react that way upon first seeing him, but he didn’t want you to flee entirely.

Your introduction needed to be taken slow. Carefully and with caution. So, he did what him and his family did best. Hid.

Not having time to climb back up a building, and not wanting to make any noise with the ascension, he opted for a familiar practice and went underground. Fortunately, a manhole cover was nearby for him to escape into, however in hindsight, he realized it wasn’t the best option. The enclosed space quickly became a beacon of light due to the luminance of the now golden string but luckily, real word physics applied to magical construct and he was able to smother the light with the use of his other hand.

He silenced his breath but his heart sounded off loudly in his ears as it pounded against his plated chest. The seconds waiting for you to arrive felt like hours, and when he finally heard you come into the alleyway his whole body went rigid. Afraid that the slightest moment would give away his location and you would find him. Which was ironic considering that, that was exactly what he wanted to do tonight except in reverse… This would’ve been much easier to deal with if he had been able to come to you, instead of you to him, but within the flood of panic he felt there was a drop of fondness.

You came out all this way in search of him.

Before he could enjoy the feeling, you were on top of him. Out of instinct, he drew in a silent breath and clamped his lips shut. He didn’t dare to peer through the small holes that had been drilled into the cast-ironed lid, and he desperately hoped you had no inkling to look down either. While it was endearing that you were looking for him, he figured you wouldn’t think it was so cute to find him holed up in a passageway to the city’s sewer systems.

He tensed hearing your feet shuffle on the covering of the hole and he came to the conclusion that the damn string had led you to his exact location, but you were unable to make sense of it due to his lack of appearance. His suspicions were confirmed when you let out an exhausted huff of air, and he prayed that you would step away from the manhole quickly. He wasn’t religious; his existence kind of went against most laws of religion, but he needed some supernatural force to step in and persuade you to move on.

Seconds of silence went by as he waited for you to do… anything. But it still caught him off guard when you spoke into the empty alleyway.

“I’m sorry.” You breathed.

Donatello blinked in confusion not expecting at all to receive an apology. You had done nothing wrong, but as if you were reading his thoughts, you were quick to explain.

“I probably look crazy right now and… you’re probably scared. I get it. I’m kind of scared too, but–” He heard the tone of your voice waver as you spoke. “I’m more afraid of losing the chance to meet you more than anything. So, please. If you could… Just tell me that you’re here?”

The grip on his ring-finger hand tightened as he considered your plea. You sounded so…lovely, and sweet.

He hadn’t even seen your face, and yet he was falling head over heels at the sound of your voice. For a second he considered that you might actually be otherworldly the way your words had captivated him. As if you were a siren or something of the sort. Whatever mysticism you possessed nearly compelled him to speak, but his own body prevented him from doing so. A massive lump had formed within his throat, choking back any words from coming out as he parted his lips.

And then he felt something. Something wet.

He now realized it was his heart that had inched its way up his throat, because it plummeted into his gut when he heard the soft sound of cries emit from your being. Sniffles and hiccups followed the quiet sobs and his mouth gaped at the realization but he was still unable to speak. He hadn’t even known you for longer than ten minutes and he already made you cry. He was supposed to be your soulmate! Shame weighed on him, pulling his head and features downwards to his feet, but he quickly perked to attention when he heard you move off the iron lid.

The universe had heard his prayer but now he prayed for you to stay. He had to make up for his cowardice! Just as he opened his mouth once more to try and speak again, a different voice came out. One that wasn’t yours…

“You know it’s dangerous to be out at a time like this?”

Donatello’s chest tightened at the low spoken words knowing the exact implication this unknown voice was getting at with their tone. By the sound of your own, you were aware of it too.

“Yeah, I was just… Taking out some trash. Gonna be heading back inside now.” You lied, but the stranger didn’t even care to call you out on it.

“That’s a bright little thing on your finger. I’ve never seen gold glisten like that.”

Donatello’s blood ran cold at the observation. His gaze dropped to his hands and he uncovered his ring fingered one to take a peek at the magical apparition, only to instantly regret his hesitancy.

“Stay back!!” You screamed, and he flinched.

Throwing all caution to the wind, he grabbed the metal ladder to ascend the unground tunnel but he didn’t move quick enough. Something made of glass shattered and echoed in the alleyway, followed by a loud thud of something– someone– collapsing to the ground.

Despite the bright gold color that lit the space around him; all he was able to see was red. —————————————————–

Prompt: The boys are at it again in guessing who the mysterious, friendly neighborhood Spider Hero of New York could be. With a joking comment, the minds of each ninja begin to wonder if it is perhaps you under the mask!”

Notes:

(s/p) = spider persona name)

~xXx~ “All I’m saying is it’s kind of nice to have some of the heat off our shells for once.”, Leo defended, raising his arms from the back of the couch. The leader terrapin and his brothers sat in April’s and yours shared living room, the small old square tv in the center casting the news of events from a few hours prior. The headline “Super Market Robbery Put To A Quick Halt” streamed across the bottom of a recorded video of New Yorkers friendly (s/p) swinging off screen. “I miss kicking bad guy butt, but you do have a point bro.”, Mikey agreed, finishing off another pizza slice. “When’s the last time we got to finish a whole pizza in one sitting?!” “You mean all of us or just you? Cuz I can tell ya the answer to that real quick.”, Raph jested, his younger brother ignoring him in favor of grabbing another slice. Shaking off a slice offered by Donnie, Leo cheekily smirked at Raph. “You’re still just mad at the fact they totally whipped your behind when we first met.” Raph, grumbling, jabbed a digit towards the his brother. “Yeah, well I didn’t exactly see ya win the fight either. In fact, if I remember correctly they had ya danglin’ by Mikey’s nun-chucks.” With a dreamy sigh, ignoring the heat rising between both brothers, Mikey spoke through a mouth full of cheese. “That was so hot how they did it, too~.” Finishing his own slice and returning to a gadget in hand, Donnie let out a light chuckle. “You say that but you don’t even know them.” “Don’t you know actions speak louder than words?!”, Mikey swooned across Leo’s lap, the later shoving him of with an eye roll. “Besides, I already know who they are anyways.” At this, all turtles stopped what they were doing, sharply turning to the youngest with curiosity brimming in their eyes. Was this it? Were the boys finally going to find out who the mystery person behind the mask was after all this time of fighting crime side by side? “You saw their face?!”, all boys shouted in unison, leaning in towards the yellow bandanna turtle. With a big smile, and kicking his feet up onto the coffee table, Mikey replied. “Nope!” All brothers deadpanned, but before any could retort back, Mikey continued. “Don’t need to. I finally figured out who they are.” Leo chuckled incredulously, sitting back once more. “We already went over this Mikey. It’s not April.” “Or Master Shredder.”, came Donnie’s chime in. “Or that one guy runnin around’n a rat costume.”, added Raph. Mikey shook his head with a mildly irritated groan at his brothers mentions of his past theories to (s/p)’s true identity. “Just hear me out! I know I’ve got it this time!” Each ninja turtle listened doubtfully but motioned for Mikey to go on. “It’s clearly the cute delivery person. Why else would they leave me an extra slice of triple cheese, deluxe pepperoni?”, he smiled wide, making a mind blowing motion with his hands. “Uhm, because they didn’t want to waste any food at the end of the night? You’d be surprised how much humans throw out at closing.”, Donnie expressed knowledgeably. Falling back defeatedly into the sofa with crossed arms, Mikey huffed. “Well since you’re such a genius, who do you think it is, Don?” Donnie thought for a moment, adjusting his glasses. “The odds of us guessing who it is, or if we even know the person in such a heavily populated city is statistically extremely low.” Mikey rolled his head back with a loud groan and Leo laughed. “Come on, Don. You gotta guess someone. Anyone.” Donnie’s face scrunched up as he truly tried, Leo and Mikey throwing out more theories on who they thought the mystery person could be. Slightly frustrated, the leaner brother nodded his head towards Raphael. “Why don’t you guys ask Raph? He always seems to have something smart to say.” Playing with the toothpick between his teeth, Raph chuckled before throwing a thumb back to the kitchen. “Obviously, it’s that dork.” All eyes turned towards the human in the kitchen, the smell of cinnamon rolls in the oven wafting around them. Even though Raphael had been 100% joking around, the cogs in each of the four brothers brains began to turn as they gazed at none other than you. You, who stood in the kitchen with disheveled hair and wrinkly pajamas after waking from what was supposed to be a thirty minute nap turned six, were the only person neither of the ninja brothers had ever thought to consider. However, now watching as you carefully studied an oven mitt, they started to notice things they hadn’t before. You were about the right height and size as (s/p). Thinking back to certain moments, the brothers also realized how some of the things you both would say sounded similar. Heck, in some sense, even your voices sounded somewhat the same. It also seemed to be quite the coincidence that whenever their spidery friend swung off after defeating some baddies, you would show up moments later. Could it be? Could you truly be the person that occupied the ninja turtles minds with your spectacular crime fighting powers and personality?! Just as lightbulbs in the brothers minds were about to go off, they had all witnessed you toss the oven mitt in the air and try to, very unsuccessfully, karate jab your hand into said mitt, only for it to fall splat to the tiled floor. “Eeeyeeeeah, scratch that. I like Mikey’s rat costume guy betta.”, Raph spoke turning back around with his brothers. “Oh come on! You’re never gonna let that go, huh?!”, Mikey exasperated as another round of argumentative theories sprung up between the four. Too lost in each others reasonings for why or why not (s/p) could be this or that person, the four brothers missed you accidentally webbing your oven mitt to the ceiling in a re-attempt at earliers action, a panicked look quickly finding place on your face as you rushed to get it free.
