it was rainy, showers that ranged from light to heavy spreading throughout the day

you were freezing, the weather didn't only affect those stuck outside, but stuck inside as well

"achoo!" and here you were, catching the world's worst cold in a while

reaching out from your blanket, you grabbed another tissue to wipe your nose

you would have gotten up and made yourself some tea but it's way too cold for you to step out of your blankets, you wouldn't last a minute

sighing, you laid back down

and as it seems that celestia heard and adhered to your every need, the door opened and in someone went

"what happened to you?" xiao asks as he eyes you from your room's door

"take a wild guess, dearest." you sniffed

"heavens, you really ought to take better care of yourself–i'm not always here to lend a hand." he let out a 'tsk' while he takes a teabag and mug

you laugh at his remark. ironically enough, he always was there to lend a helping hand

he sets the cup of tea beside your table and you thank him

"if that is all, i have to get going." he turns to leave

"wait-" you call out to him but he already vanishes. you sigh, oh well

after a cup of warm tea to calm your cold, you take a much needed nap

nighttime rolls around and you stir in your sleep

only to feel a force behind you wrap its limbs to keep you still

"huh-" you cut yourself off with a smile unconsciously growing on your face

turning around slowly, you face your xiao, his face relaxed in deep sleep, or so you thought

stroking his cheek softly, you smiled at his otherworldly features

gods, he really is perfect

while admiring him, xiao opens his eyes and stares at yours drowsily

"oh, xiao. sorry for waking you," you apologize and he responds by pulling you closer

"don't move away.." he mumbles and buries his head into the crook of your neck, giving you a little kiss there which happily surprises you

"i won't, go back to sleep, honey." you answer and run your hands through his hair

he sighs into your neck and gives you another kiss before drifting off

morning comes by and this time, xiao awakes first

he stares at you for a while (which you would've held against him if you were conscious) before pressing small circles on your side

xiao slowly reaches out to your face and strokes it gently, taking in your beauty

to him, nothing else can rival the luminosity of your smile, not even the lanterns that decorated the night sky this lantern rite

damn, did he love you

pressing a kiss to your forehead, he pulls back to see your eyes fluttering open

"..good morning, xiao." you smile

he sure loves it when you call his name. sure, his heart melts a little when you call him all these endearments but hearing his name from you sounds like a beautiful melody he can't get enough of

he, uncharacteristically, smiles back, "good morning, y/n."

although he has taken many forms before, not once has he experienced the crushing feeling of disliking how his body came to be

he finds that you've been fairly dim and down lately

your eating habbits have also changed drastically, he notes

on top of that, he hears some very self-deteriorating comments from you and it gnaws at the back of his head all the time as he recalls it

finding out that you do–his soul aches with the longing to reassure you

and so he does!

"love?" he comes into your shared room and sees your figure staring into the mirror again

oh, dear love

"ah! oh, honey.. i-" you start to ramble and make excuses, you didn't want him to worry too much but all is in vain as he sees your eyes start to brim with tears

"darling, come here.." he hugs you from behind and kisses your temple

he faces you to the mirror and pulls you closer

"my love, had you not seen yourself the way i do? it truly pains me to see yourself failing to see how beautiful you are." he presses another kiss on your neck

not believing his words, you frown at the image of your reflection on the mirror

how you hated the way you are, you think

"zhongli, i really wish i could tear this horrid body of mine to shreds, how could you see me like that?" you begin to sob

at this, zhongli shakes his head and whispers sweet nothings into your ear

"shh.. darling, don't cry. you've always stuck me as the most beautiful woman i've ever had the pleasure of calling 'mine.' i love you so much, no amount of self-destructive thoughts will ever make my narrative of you and your exceptional beauty any different." he rocks you gently to stop your crying.

"thank you.. for loving me, zhongli." you say in tears, and you genuinely are

zhongli chuckes at this, confusing you a bit

"do not thank me for loving you, my dear, i cannot help myself from falling for you, neither can i stop now." he smiles tenderly at you
