If you have posted art on deviantart, your submissions have been automatically approved for use in AI art.

At the moment, you can protect your work by:

submitting up to five keywords (names and usernames) to be excluded from AI art generation on-site to the official Google form

Manually disabling the approval for AI art generation on each individual submission. This is otherwise enabled by default and applies retroactively (old posts are automatically approved).

This absolutely sucks shit and the system should obviously be opt-in AT BEST, but at the very least please take the steps you can to protect your work.

It doesn't protect your work from third-party datasets, but it can at least protect you from deviantArt's own one.

Some racist asshole run a muslim family down with his pick-up truck this afternoon in London (Ontario), killing four and leaving only one family member alive. The terrorist was a 20-year old islamophobic dude who targeted muslims and wanted to kill as many of them as possible; when the police arrested him, he was wearing body armor, he had intended to commit more than just murders. There's a 9-year old who lost his family and is in the hospital right now. It's heartbreaking.

Lots of thoughts recently. Everything feels plastic.

I could go on and on about why all that AI "art" is bad. I could mention theft, lack of creativity, it's impact on the work field and environment, but countless people have already said all that. I wanted to touch on something that to me is the most utterly wrong about all of it.

Art is more than just something pretty to look at or listen to. It's therapeutic. It's a form of communication. A tool for human connection. It's a pure, human need.
