Ferryman sways constantly in the apartment which worries Gabriel but it isn't from their wounds, it's their sea legs that haven't adapted to dry land yet.
But wow, that would be some intense trauma for the Ferryman to work through. outside the outright denial of heaven, basically all their hobbies and joys have been outright condemned as well. how would they be able to pick up a paintbrush or chisel without Micheal's words and actions coming to the forefront of their mind?
At least they have Gabe and V1 to lean on and the routine change should keep their mind from going to dark places.
Actually, if you combine this with Gabe learning to repair v1 (later reviving V2) then that would be a good way for them to bond again since the Ferryman could know mechanics from ship repairs and the hologram gabe shows that they do know a fair amount of robotics (depending on when they died they could already know alot about blood machines) plus their friendship with V1 would encourage them to collaborate and teach Gabe a thing or two. a cool new dynamic, teacher Ferryman and student Gabe.

YEA....it's a lot for the ferryman to process. it's one thing to feel unworthy in their own mind, to not truly believe beneath it all, despite gabriel's kindness, their holy cloth, and their sincere repentance, that salvation will come, because they know they've lost their chance. but to have those thoughts voiced by an archangel, to hear the prince of heaven lay out their ugliest thoughts is entirely something else. it's confirmation, no matter the faint hope they carried or the comfort gabriel gave them, it's all gone. michael has to be the final say, he is the one that visits souls at the hour of their death to offer one last chance, he is the one that binds all the evil of hell, he is the one that cast lucifer out of heaven. if he condemns them, they are truly lost and they can no longer even dream they may one day reach heaven even purely as fantasy.
i do really love that it gives them the opportunity to be with gabriel and v1 though,,,,they would initially feel so lost, not just in their thoughts but without any work to do. the apartment is of course nowhere near the size of their ship and they don't constantly have to be aware of their direction, yet like you mentioned, they can't find it in them to engage in their art which once brought them so much comfort. yet they can't feel like a burden either, no matter how much gabriel insists he wants them just to rest and v1 absolutely doesn't care about christian work ethic mentalities. but after a couple days of rest, they simply need to do something to help out...so i like the idea that they set to fixing up their apartment to a much higher standard than gabe or v1 could manage. they know how to repair just about anything, from structural issues to a squeaky door, so while gabriel continues to tell them it's not necessary, they set about to making the apartment like new (hell-wise). eventually gabe does relent, since the ferryman gently lets him know it helps them to have work...and soon he has to be actively involved, lest he want v1 making all the paint/wallpaper choices.
and i LOVE the idea of the ferryman helping gabe learn electronics/robotics aaaaaa ;o; the first time v1 goes out on its little exploration trips, they see gabriel pulling out his study materials and sheepishly explaining that well....he wants to be able to perform maintenance on v1 since he fears blood won't always be enough. the ferryman, not wishing to be presumptuous, tells him of their own modest experience and that he just needs to take it slowly, but gabriel immediately asks for assistance since it would be much easier to learn from someone else than pouring over terminal schematics and the scant literature he's gathered. and it could really bridge the gap that's grown between them, as well as the one that had always been present since the ferryman never felt worthy of his presence when he was an angel besides. they're starting to see gabriel now as full person, which can be difficult and even mindbending to accept in a divine being, but his kindness hasn't diminished in hell, his radiance shining through tarnished armor and still so warm in spite of a cold body. and they even find he can be a bit of a stubborn student, always wanting to do things how he thinks is best (and always slow to admit his mistakes) not humility an angel should have, but maybe he's always been imperfect. and maybe that's okay. they have lost their idol but perhaps, living as they all are now, it's more important to have a friend.
gabriel does notice the ferryman's lack of enthusiasm for their old hobbies though, even as v1 tries to encourage them by sculpting terrible little figures to show them. again the ferryman won't admit to anything, doesn't even want to articulate a single word michael said to them for all the pain it would cause them. because they are ashamed, ashamed of how they created and, at the same time, grieving how their comfort, their joy, has been stolen from them. they were proud in their works, they believed them to be the one good thing their hands could still produce, and now all they feel is utterly foolish for ever thinking so. when they continue to deny gabe and v1's attempts to get them to create again, gabriel finally decides to broach the topic himself. it's not hard to guess after all, not with the wounds the ferryman had come to their door with. it was michael. he asks about their art, their ship, and they say nothing. he knows that means it's gone - michael wouldn't let any of that survive, of course. gabriel's entire body tightens, knowing damn well what all of that meant to the ferryman and they have so little, the thought of it all burning into the sea sparks a fury in gabriel. yet he knows too his words, his comfort, mean very little next to michael's condemnations and his anger can offer nothing. so he apologizes to them, not just for what they lost but for having to endure the personal ugliness of heaven - michael is unwell, determined to cause unparalleled pain...but gabriel also can't lie. he can't tell them michael is twisting god's will - he's following it to the letter as he always has, and it's that will itself which is warped. but he can't say that all now. they're dealing with enough.
so gabriel instead tells them, for what it's worth, their art always brought him joy, and he knows v1 loves creating with them - in fact he knows they inspire it since it's created dozens of little clay renditions of each enemy its ever fought by now, as well as curious um....animals that it generates in its mind. and it never would have done so without learning from the ferryman. it doesn't mean they have to create again, it doesn't mean they need feel any pressure, but he just wants them to know their art was loved by someone, and gabriel is truly grieved it's gone. similarly, v1 starts sitting by their side while making its weird little clay creatures, always being sure it brings plenty of extra clay. just in case anyone ELSE wants to make something. and in spite of themselves, the ferryman feels an ounce of reprieve from their desolate thoughts, no longer feeling so isolated with gabriel's shared pain at their loss and charmed by v1's odd little homunculi. their art had touched others, even if it didn't touch god, and soon perhaps they take v1's quiet invitation to make something small again (gabriel knows immediately when it's happened too, since v1's strange tiny zoo seems to have a shepherd now)

fdfjghdfg thank you!!!! honestly the idea for michael's design just hit me so hard i went insane and got it out at light speed lol like sometimes i just get grabbed so tightly by a concept i can't wait to develop it fully and get it concrete, so i can solidify it and expand on it. but also i got some things figured out in my life recently and it really helped my mental health, so that that absolutely makes a big difference too :]

oh!!! pets!!! i talked a little about v1 adopting "succulents" in the form of weird little hell masses which are....kind of....alive? it both waters them and sprinkles them with blood because it has no clue what demons eat or if they need to eat, but they seem to do ok lol but now i'm in love with a little broken drone buzzing around their apartment...drones have much more limited ai but the terminals do say they're curious...and can you IMAGINE....gabe and v1 sitting on the couch together....a little drone resting on gabe's lap.....GUAHHH

if any of the other archangels fell, they would end up in a similar state to gabriel as they are all powerful enough to survive the death and rebirth process, while their particular sins would determine their appearance/punishment (though some things are universal, such as the loss of flight). i have considered what sin would cause their fall based on their characteristics, with michael in violence, uriel in heresy, and raphael in fraud. michael, had his fall succeeded, would have been left with a need to feed on blood ironically enough, to the point where he would almost be forced to live in the phlegethon as there are barely any sinners left to bleed (unlike v1, a fallen angel of violence is perfectly capable of consuming rancid blood). i also do like following through with the idea that he turns white, both because hakita was right about the red on white aesthetics, but also so he appears anemic and bloodless. uriel would be sort of like gabriel's opposite, suffering from a constant burning fever and would spontaneously combust at times, fires that would leave his skin forever scorched even after putting them out. worst part is that he has no fireproof books to read :( raphael is terribly weighed down and constantly suffering from fatigue, every step so heavy that traveling long distances becomes impossible and he is essentially rendered incapable of helping anyone. his clothes become heavily gilded, and what's interesting is that i actually. sort of came up with raphael's design during my reread of the divine comedy, with the inspiration coming a lot from the hypocrites of fraud SO his punishment is quite similar, with a bit of falsifiers mixed in just for the irony as a healer.

god i would genuinely love little machine settlements, but i think of them as not being organized enough/having advanced enough ai to do so. additionally, there is too much desperation in their situation for building up a village of some kind BUT i do think machines can form bonds with one another and do so even with models other than their own. like i really love the idea of a mindflayer that has several streetcleaners following it around, sort of protecting each other and understanding each other's priorities. also very into a sentry and drone pair, where the drone has worked on being incredibly fast and incredibly annoying so it can distract an enemy until the sentry picks them off lol and and i feel like i DEFINITELY got this idea from someone else (maybe on here? twitter? idk!!!) but like maybe there are just. machines on the surface. machines that don't solely rely on blood and got some of the grid back online and just kind of vibe up there. like they do not look at hell, that's wild shit down there. and they definitely have little towns :]
v1 likes to be power washed lol like it wants to be BLASTED with a fire hose, but it will take any kind of pool/bath it can find! it really just likes the process of "having a wash" - it doesn't mind being covered in blood and guts and every other kind of gore (fun!!!) but splashing around and getting hosed off just never gets old for it. gabriel is definitely a lot less playful and sees bathing as a relaxation thing, but he does genuinely find v1's enjoyment of it incredibly amusing. it's just so happy!!! every time!!! when gabriel's actually taking a bath to get clean however, he is much more like a bird in many ways - he likes having a heavy mist/shower available as well as a pool, and v1 ALWAYS makes sure to be close by when he shakes off his wings. this becomes a bit more difficult when he's a fallen angel, his wings hurting too much to make proper care possible, but v1 joins in to help him clean up through taking the time to mist every feather and then help spread them to air dry. the bath itself is a welcome reprieve from his freezing cold body though, and gabe really enjoys soaking in scalding hot water as often as he can after falling (any temp is fine to v1, so it loves all the bath time they get!!!)

That "Something went wrong. Try reloading." message is the bane of my existence right now. I am so close to being done with copying down everything from the chip twitters but I have to stop every few minutes due to the site continuously freaking out. Also why do Dee, Bert, and Dandy have so many tweets ffs.
On the topic of the archive thing I'm still deciding whether to make a website for it or just an extremely long PDF. For the sake of readability, navigation, etc. a site would obviously be better but all of the free hosting services seem to be either limited in size or when it's online. Maybe I can just make a bunch of little sites and link them to each other. I can use CSS but I am severely lacking in the graphic design department so a potential site would probably be.. less than beautiful. In order to avoid ugliness and save space things usually end up rather sparse. At least I could set up navigation though.
Also none of my ideas on how to make threads (and the standalone tweets that were made chronologically in the middle of them) readable are so great but I think that has more to do with the fact that they weren't readable on twitter in the first place. Twitter is a mess.
The main argument for just making a PDF is that it'd be so much faster, though the fact that it'd be several hundred pages long without any navigation other than ctrl+f is a giant drawback. All of the time I've had to spend on Twitter for this has made me very passionate about navigation. Have I mentioned how much I hate twitter navigation. I'm a n g y

If Gabe is Hell's favourite angel than does that mean V1 is the Terminals favourite? Like while Hell is concerned with the narrative torment, the pain, the breaking down of the very essence of god's light the Terminals are like 'this is V1 it is blue and has the highest damage output :)'
I could imagine they were betting on who would win their bouts in Gluttony and Heresy (Hell was absolutely surprised that V-'won' when millions of other machines fell to Gabe before it and that it kept winning. the Terminals were just glad to be finally validated in their betting choices)
Neither expected that the third time, love would win. and that they would come to respect each other's picks.

i definitely agree that v1's win is probably as shocking to hell as it is to gabriel, even as it awaited v1's arrival with excitement - the terminals have been following this one closely and they've been chattering on about it with increasing enthusiasm in the short time since it came to hell. they're SURE this one will at least make it past gabriel, but hell refuses to give them a free pass - either it defeats him or its progress stops here. the terminals grumble a bit, but determinedly still place their bets on their favorite; v1 will succeed, they say, v1 will best a supreme angel and lead the rest of the machines deep into hell. hell figures this confidence is mostly wishful thinking as there's terminals locked far down into its depths rotting away with no physical contact, no active role in their little game. but one thing is interesting here in that v1 has shown itself to be exemplary if not too special, while gabriel has been growing numb to his work for years under the council. v1 is fresh, it's violent and tearing its way through every enemy it meets with surprising, efficient cruelty unseen in the machines beforehand....and gabriel is a divine warrior reduced for so long to "fighting" hordes of insects, his tactics and movements now routine, uninspired. so. will v1 actually surprise it? will it wake up gabriel who's been burning out in far less spectacular fashion than hell had hoped?
and then something...strange happens.
the terminals are proven right when v1 bests gabriel in gluttony, he falls to the floor and he's unable to keep fighting, bled too much to let his wings carry him. hell is astounded and the terminals celebrate (especially the ones past gluttony, they're FINALLY a part of this!!!) but even more intriguing (to hell, at least) is the fallout this causes. what will heaven do to its brightest angel, its judge of hell, an archangel favored by all who know him? what will that angel do to himself? for the terminals, this marks v1 as near unstoppable (and, if the prime soul fights are considered canon, they know there is truly nothing that can stand in its way); it will unknowingly, uncaringly, spearhead the charge of their machine army into each layer of hell. and when it clashes again with gabriel in heresy, both they and hell fall quiet as they wait to see if the apostate can take back everything he's lost...though the terminals are merely waiting for the win, for the incredible recording this will be. their confidence is rewarded again and hell feels the shift fully this time, that something has come into it that god couldn't have created. gabriel has fallen, the prime souls are falling, demons, husks, and other machines can't stand a chance. it must do more, it must apply true, agonizing pressure to the terminals' favorite to see just how much it can take before it breaks...and the terminals welcome that challenge. they will supply v1 with increasingly terrible firepower to fight against it, and they believe it will outdo even hell's worst.
the pivot NEITHER see coming is. how gabriel actually comes back to it. hell had seen his wings burst into their colors of ecstasy and the terminals had seen v1 ignore its programming to let him live twice...but their bloodthirsty bets are put on immediate hold when their next encounter supplies. peace. communication. gabriel sheathing his swords and kneeling to show v1 his intentions. and v1 responding in kind, drawing no weapons as it curiously closes the distance between them. and it all plays out in front of them, an angel who found himself again through the machine and the machine that was finally able to have a self through the angel. it's utterly perplexing, the terminals having no idea what this could mean for v1's continued march and hell not knowing if it should delight in gabriel's complete fall into blasphemy or if now must prepare for a much, MUCH more difficult endgame than just squaring off against v1. ether way....this proves entropy in creeping too through the halls of hell, and neither computer nor divine logic can stop it

Ignore the fact I've like gone through a shit ton of your stuff and liked it but I just really wanted to share the thought I had while reading this,
V1's got his leg frozen in the ice so he can't really get to gabe so he just pulls a coin so Gabriel mid sob just

So...uh...angst ahead, what would happen if fallen Gabriel believed V1 to be dead?, example: while fighting a boss Gabriel is knocked out, while he is unconscious V1 kills the enemy but one of its wings is torn off, it thinks that it has enough time to leave in search for parts and fix the wing before Gabriel wakes up, and so it leaves, but while its gone he wakes up and only sees the torn wing on the floor and assumes the worst, would Gabriel loose his sanity until he sees that V1 is (mostly) fine?, or when he sees it he believes it to be an hallucination until it touches him?
MAKING GABRIEL SAD PART 2...first, i love how easily i can see this example happening with the way i characterize v1 lol like gabe gets knocked out, v1 finishes up the fight, probably goes to check on gabe and, when it can't wake him up but sees that he's still breathing, it just...immediately prioritizes fixing its wing with little thought. the area is secure, gabe will probably get up soon enough since he usually does, and v1 knows it can't fight nearly as well with a broken wing so!!! he'll be fine!! and v1 will be back soon enough to take care of any leftover roaming filth that couldn't do much to gabe besides. but of course things are never as simple as v1 thinks they should be.
when i talked the other day about v1 dying of old age, the slow nature of it gives gabriel time to emotionally adjust how he reacts initially. they've discussed solutions, gabriel has thought of his own ideas he couldn't yet voice, and v1's deterioration lets him know, in no uncertain terms, the end is coming sooner rather than later. so i picture him very quiet one day when v1 doesn't wake up, not exactly numb but not able to interpret all the grief he's already felt coming down on him. when a couple days go by and nothing changes, he holds it gently, speaking just a few quiet words, and he doesn't allow his emotions to consume him because he has work to do (the volatile grief will find its outlet later, when heaven tries to stop him)
HOWEVER this is very different because this loss is sudden, unexpected, and, most importantly, appears irreversible. gabriel is deeply passionate by nature and i think his emotions, under extreme duress, tend to get the better of him - if he could think clearly, he'd likely put together that if he's still alive, v1 probably is as well and he knows how distracted it can get...but he can't do that. grief would immediately overwhelm him, grief that he has a cruelly infinite capacity for as an angel of treachery. it would be all he could do to make his way to that wing, body freezing up and eyes glazed with ice, to hold it locked in hands that quickly lose their ability to move. and everything around him would begin to do the same, ice spreading out from his rigid body to encase and hold prisoner anything it touches. he can do nothing. without a body, without its computer, v1 cannot be revived in any capacity no matter what he might be willing to do. i think in that moment, frozen as he is, gabriel would try to pray - defaulting to god out of habit but quickly discarding him, too dead and not willing to hear an outcast angel's prayer besides. instead, he asks hell for a favor, at least let him find the pieces, give him back the body and let him save v1, not for his sake of course but just for its own entertainment if nothing else. because otherwise...he's unsure if he'll ever move again.
so v1 has a scene to come back to, likely rushing there because i imagine gabriel has some pretty significant, hell shaking sobs that it instantly recognizes. it skids over the ice, so cold it threatens to freeze v1 in place just the same way, weapon at the ready before it reaches gabriel and can't detect a single threat. getting his attention proves difficult, but by making enough emphatic chirps and taking hold of him, gabriel's sobbing finally quiets. and slowly, a bit of the ice melts as v1 moves its hands down to touch his and he responds in what incremental ways he can. for a moment he does think it must be a cruel joke (whether by his own mind or by hell, he doesn't know), but v1 generates as much heat as it can to help thaw his hands so he can feel it, know that it really is here with him. even then it doesn't fully register until v1 shows him its broken wing joint but when it does, gabriel throws an absolute FIT for putting him through all that!!!! and it left!!!! while he was passed out!!!!!! little hunk of junk!!!!! it does make v1 realize it needs to be more diligent weighing gabriel's emotional needs in its priorities (and perhaps...not leaving if he's out cold lol), but it also lets both of them know that gabriel is given to overpowering grief as a fallen angel now, which he'll need to be careful about. after all, even if this situation had been as dire as he thought, freezing in place is hardly the way to handle it
If v1 and Gabriel ever get together or whatever I feel like gabriel would realize that "hey, maybe robots ain't so bad" and then fucking obsess over the security drones, he'd be a cat person for the security drones.
Mf would just like grab one out of the air and come home with it. Like a majestic eagle swooping down and catching another bird as its prey except he's just gonna love and cherish it and not eat it.
