The rule in Last Life about players leaving their alliances when they turn red led to a lot of tragic scenes, but one that sticks with me in particular is when Scott turns red.

Scott rolls boogeyman, and immediately he sits down the other non-reds and tells them he's the boogeyman and he isn't going to hurt any of them. He sticks to that too.

All episode Scott helps them get resources, fortify their defenses against reds, escape and protect themselves from red attacks. He has chances to kill the others. He never does. And then, finally, he turns red, a result of his decision not to hurt anyone.

They don't hesitate to tell him to leave.

He isn't even resentful.

hermits actually fly about other's bases alot just to check it out and get some inspiration. like a lot. and sometimes they are this 🤏 close to figure out what they wanna do with their build and catch tge motivation before it slips away. but if you, a hermit, are home and see a random mumbo approaching you would guess he'd come to You to talk. and sometimes it's not the case at all and chattering about will make you loose your thoughts and ideas.

soo. to not seem rude, they have a code word, that means "im like this close to actually finishing the project and I went to see your creations for inspiration please don't make me laugh I'd wanna stay and forget what I was thinking for my project. just pretend I'm not here". the code word is "inspo mode". it came about around season 5 but every time a new hermit joins they forget to inform them of it. so picture grian, getting himself mentally ready to talk to a hermit for the first time for them to just stare at his base and yell "inspo mode!!!!!". imagaine pearl standing there building, noticing a certain Keralis guy came about and getting ready for his shenanigans, but in return when she approaches him he flies away with a star struck smile on his face later messaging in the group chat the code

joel literally had to get used to such behavior so quickly and was the first ever newbie to ask in a meeting what it was all about. the hermits collectively face palmed when they realised they forgot to tell the baby hermits about their code word Again.

pearl was once found in tangos redstone and used the code. tango felt more proud of his work this moment then any other moment when someone praised his skills

grian and scar used the code for malicious intent once when they were scooting around docs base

Inside the Gas Chambers: Eight Months in the Sonderkommando of Auschwitz by Slomo Venezia This is one of the only books I've found that touches on the living conditions and viewpoint of a Jew from Greece. Reading it, the author felt like a friend. It was horrifying.

Nazi Doctors: Medical Killing and the Psychology of Genocide this book explained people were taught to completely separate Jews from being human in people's minds in the years leading up to the Holocaust- especially in the medical field. It has interviews with some of the doctors who did these things. The site for the books also has an archive of images, films, objects, publications, recorded sounds and documents. It's being normal(tm) about Scott hours again.

Do you guys ever think about how Scott sees death as a solution? How Scott sees death as peace?

It's the way he finds his way home, the way he makes people like him, the gift he gives his allies, the apology he gives when someone is angry with him.

The players don't have much agency in this game, but if nothing else, Scott always has control over his own body, his life. So..it's become a tool. Something to trade away, something to break apart in a million different ways.

And it's not a big deal (not to him, and certainly not to the ones he does it for)

It'll always come back. Reform the same as ever. Maybe not this season, but he doesn't want to win again anyways (he exists to push his teammates along).

Of course, that's not the whole truth. It's difficult, to dehumanize yourself so much you see your own life as something to give away at a moments notice. Sometimes you see..hesitance, almost, the sparks of whatever part of him knows he doesn't just live to die again.

But death always solves his problems, doesn't it? Scott dies and he gets to see his husband again, Scott dies and he's not alone anymore, Scott dies and he's formed a new alliance, Scott dies so his teammates can win, Scott dies and he's forgiven, Scott dies and at least he was useful.

Scott's (perceived) worth is in his death. This is something the people around him contribute to (often they're just as eager to take as he is to give), but it's even moreso something Scott believes and enforces on himself.

A gift, a sign of love, a way to prove he cares, and a way to assure himself that whoever he's dying for cares too.

Because to bring an animal to slaughter is to prove you value them in some way.
