It would be a week before you saw Bucky again.
You told your friends about the handsome hero who stepped in to defend you on the subway. The man with the steel blue eyes. Your friends responded with a resounding âawwâ when you showed them the line of the poem on the back of his card, with the exception of your friend Tina. Raising an eyebrow as she sipped her wine, she asked what the catch was.
"There is no catch," you stated.
"There's always a catch," Tina argued.
Ever the pessimist. Or is she a realist?
"He said I could help volunteer at the library when I asked if I could repay him."
"See? There's the catch. Free labor," she said, triumphantly finishing her glass.
"That's what volunteer work is," you joked, running your thumb along his name before Nicole snatched the card from your hand. "Hey!"
"Hold on. Let's look him up," she said, glancing at the card before she typed on her phone. You took it back and carefully tucked it away when her eyes widened seconds later. "Holy. Shit. Is this him?"
The image of Bucky standing by a bookshelf with a book filled the screen as she held her phone up. Your mouth went dry from the quick glance, so you nodded in reply. That was your hero.
"You met this guy on the subway?" she asked, passing her phone around for everyone to see. You were pretty sure Kim whimpered. "How do I not meet guys like this on the subway?!"
Even Tina looked impressed.
For a moment.
"I still think there's a catch," she said.
"Thereâs no catch. He could've easily told me to contact the library. He didn't have to give me his card or recite the poem. So this means he wants to see me again. Right?"
You hated how your voice wobbled on the last word. Bucky was a stranger and he may have already forgotten about your encounter. You hoped that wasn't the case.
Why did it matter so much to you?
"I think he wants to see you again, but also wants to leave the ball in your court after you had to deal with a creep," Kim said, giving you an encouraging smile. She knew you were a bit lonely, even if you wouldn't admit it. "You should call him and set up a time to volunteer."
âI could email him,â you pointed out.
âNot as personal,â Nicole dismissed with her hand. âPlus you get to hear his voice this way.â
Tina's gaze softened when you toyed with the glass in front of you. You knew that she, like your other friends, wanted you to be happy. "Give it a day then call him. If anything, maybe he'll dick you down the way you need."
âYes, for the love of everything holy, you havenât been laid in months. Do it for us,â Nicole added, making you laugh.
You took their advice and waited a day.
Thankfully no one was around to see you pace across the floor when you called. What was it about talking on the phone that made your palms tingle? You had no reason to be nervous. It was just a phone call to one the most gorgeous, chivilarous men you had the pleasure of encountering.
"Abraham Library. This is Bucky."
The infliction in his tone was all business, but he managed to make professionalism sound sexy.
"Hello?"
You were so distracted by his voice you forgot you had to talk.
"Hi, Bucky. Sorry," you smiled, praying you weren't speaking too loud when you gave him your name again. "We met on the subway?"
Please, remember me.
"Hi," his voice warmed considerably, making your palms tingle again for a different reason. "How are you?"
"I'm good," you answered. People asked you that every day, but it felt like he wanted to know. "How are you?"
"Not too bad. Better now. I- Well, I was hoping you'd call."
"You were?" you bit your lip to keep from grinning.
"Yeah. Been listening for the phone all day," he admitted with a small chuckle.
He did want me to call. He was waiting for me. Ha! Take that, Tina.
He cleared his throat, making you wonder if the admission embarrassed him or if he remembered he was working. "What can I do for you?"
I can give you a list of the things you can do to me.
"I was wondering if you still needed volunteers? I'd love to help out."
"Yeah. Of course. We could always use more volunteers. Let me check the calendar."
The silence should've been uncomfortable as you waited, but you didn't mind it.
What you didn't expect to hear next was a groan. A deep groan. One for the sexiest sounds you ever heard. How you didn't whimper in response when you took a seat was impressive.
"Is everything okay?" you asked when you found your voice.
"Yeah. I just forgot to mention that volunteers have to fill out an application," he explained, his voice quieter than it was before. Almost sheepish. "The approval process is quick, but I'm usually better about stating that upfront. I'm sorry."
"You don't need to apologize. I filled out the application before I called," you said.
"You did?"
"Yep," you smiled and swung your head toward your monitor. You still had the "application submitted" page up. "So no apologies."
Bucky sighed, the sound just as seductive as his groan as you heard typing in the background.
God, phone sex with him would probably make me collapse.
"Got it. It's right here. That's great." You heard more typing and you had to stop yourself from imagining what else those fingers of his could do. "We have a children's reading this Saturday. The session is from 10-10:30, but I could use some help setting up a few minutes before and maybe a bit after in case any of the kids want to stay longer."
"Saturday is great," you smiled, looking forward to seeing him again so soon. "I can be there at 9:45, if that works."
"That works for me. I'll get the application approved and you should be all set. Is there anything else I can do for you?"
"No, I think that's it," you said, pushing your chair back so you could spin around.
It was a silly, happy victory twirl.
"Oh."
You stopped spinning immediately at that single word.
It was the same disappointed tone he had when you got to the restaurant and had to part ways.
But why would he be disappointed? I'm volunteering with him. Wait. He said he was listening for the phone all day. Does he really want to just talk to me?
He cleared his throat again. "If you need anything before Saturday, let me know."
"Wait! One more thing?" you blurted out before he could hang up.
"Yeah?" he asked hopefully.
You inhaled and exhaled once. Twice. You could do this.
"When you're done working Saturday, would you like to get lunch or dinner with me?" you asked as your stomach did an impressive round of somersaults.
You almost ended the call, not wanting to hear if he rejected you.
"I'd love to," he replied.
Your brain temporarily stopped functioning before his answer registered.
He said "yes"!
"Great! Um. Pizza?" you suggested.
Yes, use small words. That's good.
"I know a place right around the corner from the library. Best pizza in the city. You'll love it."
"I can't wait. See you Saturday?"
"It's a date," he smiled.
You set your phone down and waited a second before you spun around in your chair again. The excited shriek you let out was enough to fill your apartment. "He said 'yes'! It's a date! He's-"
A muffled chuckle from your desk made you stop short. Your stomach dropped when you saw the glow from your phone screen. The call was still going.
No. No! Fuck!
You straightened your back and picked up the device with as much dignity as you could. With all the blood rushing to your face, you were surprised you didn't pass out. Should you play it off as a joke? Ignore it?
"Um, are you still there?"
Maybe by some miracle he hung up.
"I am." He sounded like he was trying to hide his laughter. He did work in a quiet place after all.
"What exactly did you hear?" you asked because you were apparently a masochist who wanted to feel the pain again.
"I don't know what you're talking about," he said casually. Too casually. "So, are you excited about Saturday?"
"You heard me, didn't you?" you accused as his quiet laughter crept back up.
God, the guy who recited poetry to me heard me shriek like a banshee. Is there a level worse than mortifying? Did Tina jinx me somehow?
"Why didn't you hang up?"
"Because neither of us said goodbye," he said, his voice quiet and casual again. "I didn't want to be rude."
Of course.
"To answer your question, yes, I'm looking forward to Saturday," you said evenly in the hopes you didn't sound embarrassed.
"So am I. Only reason I didn't yell is because I'm at work."
"You're just saying that," you smiled. It was nice that he tried to help you save face.
"I'm not. Honest. And, let's be serious, if those are the sounds you make just from the thought of a date with meâŚ"
You managed not to embarrass yourself again when his voice deepened, but your cheeks got hot and you also wondered what other sounds he'd pull out of you. "Why don't you get back to work and maybe we can discuss that more on Saturday? After library hours."
"Or during."
Fuck.
"But I am hanging up now if you feel like screaming again."
He's smirking. I know he is.
"I'm hanging up, too. Bye," you giggled, pressing end this time so you could cover your face and groan.
The mortifying moment aside, which he seemed to find endearing, you somehow got yourself a date. The next part of your fairytale. You just wished Saturday wasn't so far, far away.
We have a date! More to come soon. Love and thanks! â¤ď¸

You were a scorned woman, set to marry the Prince. You were bred to rule beside a man, raised for the Crown. Hands unmarked of any labour, dress ironed and laying perfect over your figure and your virtue intact; you were the vision of a proper lady who would one day be a Queen.
The winds of scandal were sudden and took your life by a storm, ravaging your reputation and life in one fell swoop, and you were ruined. The woman who would have lived in a castle became a name whispered with suspicion, pity and scorn.
Sherlock did his best to save the last shreds of your dignity, proving your innocence and worth to the society. But a fallen woman is not easily raised, and your dreams of being a Queen were dashed away.
You didn't know what to do with your life then, having no further need of royal etiquette lessons. You found yourself leaning on the one man who had promised to salvage your image. He was witty, sharing the details of his cases that took your mind away from your future that seemed shrouded in fog.
Carriage rides, walks in the park, you didn't know when it happened when you stopped thinking before taking his hand and resting your head on his chest. His strong arms seemed to be the only thing holding you together.
You figured that he looked like a Prince too, with his curls fluttering in the summer breeze as he watched you approach him under the tree. His pipe was smoking and you felt jealous of it for it felt those sinful lips over it way more than you did.
"What are you thinking?" He asked you, offering you a hand and bringing you down to sit between his thighs. Strong muscle surrounded you, and his eyes pierced you like sunlight through rolling clouds.
"Don't you already know, Mr Holmes? They say you know everything." You whisper, bringing his pipe to your mouth and blowing smoke on his face. He smirks, holding you close and nuzzling your neck.
"Your mind? Yes. Teach me to read your heart." He said.
You shifted to look at him, your beacon of light that parted the clouds that surrounded you. His lap felt a way more worthy throne than the one in palace would have.
"For you, my heart is but a mirror. You'll only ever see yourself there."

I know that it's hard to hear about innocent people dying. I know it's hard to care about politics especially if it's from other countries or if it doesn't affect you. it might be depressing for you to hear about these things happening but imagine living it. it's our last chance to win this fight, if we don't the internet is gonna stay limited, more people would die from poverty and police brutality, they will be more strict about the hijab and more afab people would be arrested. maybe you're asking yourself what can I do about it? maybe you're thinking that it's none of your business and sharing posts won't do shit. maybe you're right, at the end of the day it's our revolution, it's our fight. and I swear that we're trying our best to overthrow this brutal dictatorship.
but they're killing people, using minors as police, using schools and ambulances to hide police forces, they are breaking into people's houses and beating and arresting protesters. so I beg you to talk about it and share the news. the only reason that they haven't shut down the internet completely and haven't killed 1500 people like in 2019 is that the world is watching us, the world knows about us. after 44 years of oppression and fear and violence finally our voices are being heard. so don't let people call it a color revolution, don't let them call it islamophobic to burn a veil. these are some tactics that the government use to silence iranian people. so just ignore it and get your news from iranian people instead of so called "leaders" of the protests.
help us if you can, be our voice.

Modern royalty is both a wondrous and strange concept. As the only child of the King and Queen of Brooklyn, your parents raised you with a blend of tradition and modernization. They taught you to speak your mind while stressing to follow certain customs. You did your best to make them proud.Â
The picture-perfect princess.
Except, you didn't have a prince by your side.
âSomething wrong, your highness?â
You turned in your chair to look at your personal knight, James âBuckyâ Barnes. Standing tall at 6â4â with a muscular build, he served as your bodyguard when he wasnât fighting for your father. Like his father before him. You worried in the beginning that heâd resent you for having to be your personal guard, but he took his duties seriously. He watched over you as if it was an honor to do so. Though he intimidated most because of his size and strength, he displayed kindness toward you. He quickly became one of your closest confidants.
A knight in name, but a prince in my heart.Â
âNothing to concern yourself with.â
âAre you sure?â he asked, not moving from his spot in the left corner of your large bedroom. It was the perfect vantage point for him to see your window, the door, and you. âYou dismissed your ladies for no reason, youâre not dressed for the day, and youâve been staring at that invitation for the better part of an hour.â
You turned back toward your vanity and picked up the ornate invitation with a sigh.
Her Majesty Queen of Waverly requests the pleasure of your company at the Marriage of His Royal Highness Prince Clinton of Waverly with Her Royal Highness Princess Natalia of Volgograd.
You RSVPâd to Clint and Natashaâs wedding weeks ago and said you would bring a plus one because that was the expectation. Your parents asked every day since the invitation arrived who you planned to have on your arm. They gave you the option of choosing instead of making the decision themselves. With the wedding around the corner, you were running out of time.
âI still haven't chosen a date and my parents want an answer today."
"Forgive me for saying so, but you have been dodging the King and Queen's question."
"I know, I know. They're already disappointed that I've dragged this out."
Just like they're probably disappointed that they didn't arrange a marriage for me once I was old enough to wed.Â
"I highly doubt you could do anything to disappoint them or anyone else. Youâre Brooklynâs beloved princess through and through," he said.Â
Blood rushed to your cheeks as you set the invitation down. His praise felt good. "Thank you, Bucky. But why do I have to bring someone?âÂ
"Tradition," he replied, crossing his arms. âYou know, I figured the princes would be knocking down your door at the chance to be your plus one.â
âAs if youâd let them get close enough to ask,â you said. "You don't even let Sir Steven near me and he's your best friend."
As your knight, one of Bucky's duties was to keep you safe from any possible threats. He took it to the extreme. If anyone got within a few feet of you, he was there to keep them away. Most didnât try to speak to you once they caught a glimpse of him.
âIt is my job to protect you,â he reminded you. âEspecially from handsy princes.â
"Does that include Prince Nicholas?"Â
Bucky's jaw twitched as he nodded. It was a bit of a low blow to mention Nickâs name considering your knight couldnât stand him. The prince was one of the few men not afraid of him.Â
"Especially Prince Nicholas," he grumbled, not hiding his disdain for the man. "What gift did he send you last week?"
"An emerald necklace. I almost felt bad sending it back."
"Insulting. Doesn't he know diamonds are a girl's best friend?"Â
You narrowed your eyes at him in the mirror, which made him chuckle. The sound sent a jolt between your thighs. Between that and the earlier praise, you prayed he didnât notice how it affected you. Your knight was not only brave and trusting, but so handsome. Staring into his eyes was like getting lost at sea. Too many nights, you imagined how silky the brown strands of his hair would feel against your fingers.Â
And how the scruff on his chin would feel between your legs.
âEmeralds, diamonds, it doesn't matter. You donât let any man get close enough to give them to me themselves,â you muttered to distract yourself from getting aroused. âSome days I wonder if you take pleasure in making sure Iâm alone.â
Bucky frowned as he unfolded his arms. âYou think I want you to be alone?â
"You tell me. My parents want me to wed eventually, but how will that happen if you won't let any suitors near me?" you asked, toying with one of your makeup brushes to keep your hands busy. âOr are you punishing me for constantly being on babysitting duty?"
"I'm sure the right man can court you without being in close proximity to you," he said, even though he didn't sound pleased. "And we both know I want to watch over you, so why are you trying to pick a fight with me?â
You looked away, embarrassed. You had no reason to speak to him like that. But how could you admit that you didnât want any suitors when you had him right in front of you? He wasnât just your knight, he was everything to you. It upset you to think he didn't want you. It scared you more that heâd resign from his duties to settle down and have his own family. You didn't want that day to come.
Is it selfish that I want him forever by my side?
âIâm not trying to pick a fight,â you said, turning in your chair to face him. âAnd you know I don't care about any suitors. I'm just frustrated."
That includes being sexually frustrated and the toy I named after you is calling my name.Â
"I'm glad you don't care about those suitors because if you married one soon, I might be out of a job."
"You're stuck with me no matter what," you smiled. "I'm sorry for being rude."
âGive me a hug, princess, and Iâll forgive you,â he said as he held out his arms.
âNo,â you said, but you were already on your feet. The robe you wore didn't do much to cover your body and you wondered if you imagined the hunger in his eyes. âI donât think you deserve a hug.â
He placed his left hand over his chest, which drew your attention to it. He lost his left arm in battle years before and the kingdom had a state of the art metal prosthetic fashioned for him. To some, it was a sign of sacrifice and bravery. It showed you that he was a fighter and survivor.Â
âYou wounded me with your words and youâre hurting me more by denying me a simple request.â
You fought to keep from smiling as you walked toward him. Knowing that he wanted to touch you, even in an innocent form, was a heady feeling. You wanted his touch, too. You craved it like nothing else.
âIâm only going to hug you because I love you,â you said, wrapping your arms around him once you were close enough.Â
He inhaled as he hugged you close and you allowed yourself to melt in his strong embrace. It made you feel safe and cared for. âI love you, too, my princess,â he whispered.Â
You closed your eyes and hid your face in his shoulder. Whenever you said you did things for him because you loved him, he always replied that he loved you, too. You dreamt of falling asleep to him whispering that in your ear.
I wish he loved me the way I love him.
âIf I could, I'd be your date for the evening."
You lifted your head and pulled free from his arms as you considered his words. You couldn't stop the grin from spreading across your face. Bucky as your date? Why didn't you think of that?Â
âWhatâs that look for?â
"Sir James, would you do me the honor of being my date to the wedding?"Â
His eyebrows shot up. "You called me James."
"That should tell you how serious I am."
Please, don't reject me. I'd feel like a fool.
He cleared his throat and you tried not to feel anxious as you waited for his answer. "Iâm not a prince.â
âWho said I have to bring a prince? It may be tradition for a princess to have someone on their arm for royal functions, but it should be a person of my choosing. Who better than the man my parents trust with my life?â
âBut-â he began before you held up a hand to stop him.
"Isn't it your duty to serve and protect me? Your princess?" you asked.
âIt is,â he answered, looking down when you took his left hand in yours.
âBucky, Iâm not just asking you as my knight. Iâm asking because I want you to go with me,â you said, your voice soft as he lifted his head to look at you. "Thereâs no one else Iâd rather go with."
You felt a slight burn in your eyes from unshed tears, but you held your head high. If he sensed your vulnerability, he kindly didn't call you out on it. You didnât want to command him to take you nor did you want to beg.
âBut if you donât want to, I understand. I can ask Prince Nicholas instead.â
Bucky stopped you before you could turn away from him. "You'll do no such thing," he said, bringing your hand to his lips and softly kissing it. âIt would be my honor to be your date, your highness."
"Really?" you smiled as he lowered your hand, but didn't let go.
"Only because I love you," he smiled back.Â
Your heart raced as you playfully hit his arm, letting your touch linger. "That's my line," you teased, looking over your shoulder to check the time. "Let's go tell my parents."
"You're in your robe," he reminded you as you tried to pull him across the room. "I don't think the other guards need to see you like that."
"I'll change later," you huffed when he planted his feet firmly on the ground. A wall of muscle, he was nearly impossible to move. "Bucky."
You gasped when he gripped your chin, forcing you to meet his gaze. His enormous hand could crush your bones if he chose to, but the gentle hold reminded you that you were in his care. There was no mistaking the hunger there this time.Â
"Get dressed, princess," he gently ordered, his voice deeper than before.Â
I'm going to have to change my panties since I'm soaking wet.
"Then we'll tell your parents."
