YOU ARE FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS
it's so interesting to me that some people think that Sophie and Fitz breaking up was ooc. i totally get that perspective but in my opinion I've always thought that Sophie liked Fitz (at first) because he was the first person that looked at her and told her that she belonged (plus Fitz is canonically super attractive too so I'm sure that helps lol). But like imagine you're not just the youngest by far in your grade but also you're constantly hearing everyone's negative thoughts about you? And then one day a handsome guy your age (ish) appears, grabs your hand takes you to a glittery world with castles and tells you that you belong there? Like OF COURSE you'd have a crush on that guy. Eventually their relationship evolved of course, they became friends and then COGNATES but in my (biased sokeefe 4 lifer perspective) Sophie's crush was built off of what Fitz represented rather than what Fitz was. This isn't to say her feelings weren't real or didn't grow deeper or that she didn't see him as a person, but the foundations of which her crush was built off of was flimsy and not representative of who Fitz really was.
I think, perhaps, that perhaps the biggest underlying reason that Sophitz failed is because Sophie, while developing real feelings for Fitz Vacker, never truly lost her infatuation with him. Through everything, she still saw him as very, very perfect. A part of a beautiful world that, as she has realized throughout the series, she also doesn’t belong in. But she wants to, she wants to so bad that she attaches this longing to belong to Fitz. So if Sophie can have Fitz, then she will feel like she belongs more. But deep down she knows that she doesn’t belong, and so that causes her to view Fitz as an elf, yes, but also something god-like that she can never be a part of.
I think Fitz is a really interesting character, and we all have warped perceptions of him since we are viewing him from Sophie’s point of view. He is a lot more insecure, immature, and imperfect than Sophie thinks. I could go on about Fitz and power and status and matchmaking and Sophie's abilities but his projected image of her on a pedestal I think solidifies the point that his perspective of Sophie, or at least the foundation of his feelings for her, wasn't representative of who she actually was too.
If I see another "Sophie Fosters angry playlist 😠😠" that is full of Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, and Sabrina Carpenter, I'm genuinely going to have an aneurism.
Look me dead in the eye and tell me she's not listening to hard rock and heavy metal.
Look me in the eye and tell me shes not obsessed with paramore, sleeping with the sirens, la dispute, pierce the veil, blink-182, the red jumpsuit apparatus, flyleaf, and sometimes Fall Out Boy
LOOK ME IN THE EYE and tell me she didn't have Thnks Fr Th Mmrs on repeat when she and Fitz broke up, or All I Wanted when Keefe left for the second time
