Whenever I run into people--people who are apparently well-intentioned and trying to be kind and moral--who honestly think that there was no widespread antisemitism before the Nazis, all I can think of is this:
The Wikipedia page for "Timeline of Antisemitism" is so long that they had to give the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries their own subpages for reasons of length, and the 20th century subpage is not inclusive for the Holocaust, which has its own timeline subpage.
But so many people think that antisemitism was invented by the Nazis, and solved by the Allies. And I just want to shake them and educate them.

E.D.I.T.H is a pair of eyewear that controls the Stark satellite network, granting the wearer access to killer drones as well as everyone's personal information (including text messages and Google searches). He opted to give it to a teenager with unrestricted access.
Can you conceive handing this much power to a seventeen-year-old in reality? It's terrible enough that "responsible" adults have access to literal drone attacks, and we witness the direct effects when Peter in Far From Home fails to halt a drone strike on a classmate. It's played for laughs, but what was Tony thinking when he created this type of power without putting a check on it? Fury, Happy Hogan, Ant-Man, literally anybody else - there has to be someone with access to a kill-switch or something of the sort to prevent something dreadful from happening, like... Peter surrendering over the system under coercion, which is quite literally the plot of Far From Home. But, even from beyond the grave, we can sense Tony's arrogance. Bringing a kid into your own mess is crazy. And it was!
Interestingly enough, we've seen comparable technology in superhero films before; The Dark Knight depicts a similar machine with less lethal powers. Using the population's mobile phones, the gadget utilises sonar to picture all of Gotham City. Batman intends to use it to track out the Joker. Lucius Fox considers it "beautiful, dangerous, and unethical" for one man to have such control. When he threatens to quit, Batman informs him that the computer can be turned off by simply typing in his name. DC succeeds where the MCU does not - by not giving children effortless murder weapons and having a kill-switch to ensure that the civilians' safety is not compromised.
While Far From Home depicts the dangers of it falling into the wrong hands, very little is explored in terms of the possibility of true corruption (as opposed to funny mix-ups that almost kill classmates). What about the idea that this type of technology is accessible to the "good guys"? Will Marvel eventually realise that E.D.I.T.H. is dangerous technology that should be exterminated?
ah yes, an “underage” 20 year old who assaulted someone, was racist, ableist, anti-semitic, and a general asshole to an uber driver that he lied about tipping. dream did not film the video, dream was also 24, and nic actually requested for the video to be filmed, and only got mad bc he knew his fuckups were gonna be released after he lied that it didnt happen! he himself called dream a good human, so did the uber driver, and everybody else in the car says nic was the asshole and dream was just being nice
I hardly get into internet drama I usually just try to stay out of it but the situation with Dream and Nicolas, jokes aside, is actually so fucking crazy bro. How in the world could you take Dream’s side????? A grown adult taking a video of a 19 YEAR OLD (UNDERAGE IF U FORGOT) drunk, high, and having a manic episode, keep the video for months, and use it for your own gain. Dream deserved everything Nicolas said to him there AND MORE. He’s genuinely the scum of the fucking earth and I hope he gets what’s coming to him.
i think the reason i like the alex rider series, despite generally not being a fan of spy novels, is that alex is constantly and explicitly exploited by the government in order to do their dirty work, and he gets no sympathy from blunt or MI6 at all. alex misses huge chunks of his education and has very few friends because of his spy work. his life is in danger even when he's not on a mission because of the sheer amount of people who want him dead. even in the first few chapters of the first book he nearly dies twice, loses his uncle, and is drugged, blackmailed, and is bullied. most of all, alex hates spying and just wants to live an ordinary life with the freedoms and security of an ordinary teenager. it's much more compelling than if horowitz had written alex as a teenage james bond.
all your friends are tony stark stans and sulk in a corner when u explain that he sucks
i was talking to my friends about the disgust i felt when tony joked about rape and was blatantly sexist and homo/transphobic and the tony stan was sitting in a corner, sulking about ‘when did that even happen ur just making stuff up.’
girl.
‘i’ll send you a bar of soap’
“Speaking about manned or unmanned, you gotta get him to tell you about the time he guessed wrong. It’s spring break, just remember that. Spring break 1987, that lovely lady, what was his name? Was it Ivan?” - ESPECIALLY since at that time, don’t ask don’t tell was still a thing. fuck you, tony
not to mention the murder bot he created after specifically being told not to
his goddamn nazi rant in endgame when he was like ‘who cares about precious freedoms’
his empire of wealth built on the blood of middle eastern children
the entire womanizer shtick + the fact he expects pepper to baby him
shot sam for no reason.
tried to murder bucky.
locked his friends in the literal fucking RAFT.
belittling steve constantly after steve had his entire life ripped away from him.
and that’s not even the half of it!
short answer: no, quite the opposite actually
long answer: after seeing that post make its rounds yesterday, i posted on reddit detailing my attempt to get in contact with the production lead, phyre, to have her fact-check the screenshots from that post. we talked, she answered all my questions and pretty much debunked the claim that they're only being given "$250 total" for their work. case closed.
and then dream himself came swinging from behind with a proverbial metal folding chair :P
he left an essay in the comments of my post, complete with citations! for those of you unfamiliar with reddit, here is his post + the screenshots of his discord convos that he linked
the narrative that dream is taking advantage of his young fans and exploiting them for cheap/free labor is false, and in fact, he paid them 3x the final amount. once the original deadline was missed, he didn't rush them further and gave them extra time. this can all be corroborated by phyre herself on twitter.
Semi... controversial opinion. But i dont think pansy parkinson is racist. I think shes a bit of a bitch and was written to be just. The worst. 2 dimensional mean girl possible, but shes not racist.
The scene that people bring up when talking about her is when she taunts angelina about her hair, saying it looks like worms. Honestly, while a racist thing to Say, i dont think its indicative of her personal feelings on black people as a whole. Other than that, shes just Wizarding Racist, which like, isnt good, but i dont think its the same. (Though having all but one of the black characters she COULD interact with being gryfindors/not purebloods sure doesnt help).
More than anything, because i mostly see people bring this up in her relation to hermione (epsecially poc hermione), i think its silly to make that distinction because of one line. Like, if you can accept dramione or drarry or any other Bitchy Bully Villain/Nice Friendly Hero (esp when the good guy is widely headcanoned as black/poc), then pansy/hermione isnt any different. I could totally hear draco making that same comment to angelina, he just never did on screen.
Pansy was written to be an irridemable horrible person, but jkr did that by making her a bitchy mean girl who says whatever she things will get to someone with maybe 2 scenes a book and never actually affects anything except like once. Its not unreasonable that people would see her an go Its Free Real Estate, the same way they did with blaise and theo.
how differently do you think the Marauders would have treated Snape is he was female? Would they have been less vicious or would their bullying just take on a different form (like say touching her inappropriately or flipping her skirt just like removing Snape's pants)
And would Remus stand up for Snape more if he was female because would he think "no she can't handle that, they're going too far, she's a girl" etc etc
I think it depends on many things — what would the professors do if the Marauders’ relentless and extreme bullying began? What would Remus say? How would the other students react to the Marauders’ bullying when it’s done in public? And most importantly, would the Marauders stop after they face consequences?
I think:
Remus would definitely force himself to speak up because the “gentleman in him doesn’t want a woman to go through that.” I’m sure his justification of the incident was “boys will be boys.” If Snape was a girl instead, I’m sure he, along with many more students and professors, would be enraged.
I think the Professors definitely would’ve done something about it. The most we hear in canon is James and Sirius getting detentions, but I’m sure they would’ve gotten way more warnings from the professors if they continued with their behaviour. And I’m sure a lot more students would report the Marauders’ behaviour (both their behaviour towards Snape and their behaviour towards other students), and the teachers would be forced to do something about it.
Another thing we have to remember is that the Marauders era took place in the 70s and women weren’t exactly.. treated the best during that time. So you could argue that a lot of fem!Snape’s experiences with them was dismissed, not only because she was a Slytherin, but because she was a woman too (and she wasn’t a conventionally pretty one). Additionally, we should also remember that James and Sirius are both privileged white guys who come from well-known pureblood families, so I doubt they would’ve faced really serious consequences, unless they took more precautions to hide their bullying of fem!Snape.
But I still think that, while fem!Snape must’ve experienced a lot of misogyny during her Hogwarts years, the professors (especially the women) would be more sympathetic to her than if she were a man (because “he should just man up” or “Potter and Black are just being boys, it’s not a big deal”).
Conclusion: I think that fem!Snape’s struggles would be taken more seriously and sometimes a few students (either guys or girls) would stand up for her when she’s bullied in public, so as a response to that, the Marauders made sure to target and attack her in more private areas in order to avoid any disruptions. And I think she would also still experience other people dismissing what she went through, but for slightly different reasons than male!Snape, perhaps some people might tell her “boys do that because they like you” or “it’s okay they’re just being silly boys” or “be more mature, you’re a girl.” And I think James, Sirius, and Peter might possibly target her without Remus because he would’ve spoken up about it more than once and they decided “he’s no fun, let’s just ditch him.” And I think SWM definitely would not have happened in public, because if it did, I think that would definitely be the last straw for the professors and the Marauders would get either suspended or even expelled.
End of rant. Thank you for this interesting question Nonnie.
Girl I’ve been thinking about this but Sirius literally would pick James over Remus in a heartbeat
l i t e r a l l y. canon!Sirius would pretty much have no problem if Remus died if it meant that James could live, people need to understand that Sirius loves James more than ANYTHING. There’s no way he would ever pick anyone over James. And if he were to ever be in a romantic relationship with either James or Remus, it would 100% be James.
