That could work but I don’t see it as being something Tyler would do considering his upbringing. With the fact that you know he had to be the man of the house. My new perspective on Jason Grace is that he's underdeveloped because he never had a chance to discover who he is.

He had the years before his mom sent him away, but most of it was spent being too young to really remember anything. With Lupa, even if he discovered bits of himself, how much of that can translate to demigod culture and society?

Then in New Rome, he most likely spent all of his time learning how to fit in and being the best he can. He didn't discover himself because he was too busy molding himself into the ‘perfect Roman’. He didn’t rock the boat except when it came to helping others.

And then he flippin died before he had a chance to fully discover himself.
