Epic The Musical Secret Santa

Hello! And welcome to the Epic The Musical Secret Santa! The goal of this is to exchange different Epic The Musical fan works! To participat

The form is completed! I will keep it open until some time early November for people to sign up (or might close it sooner if number of people signing up is overwhelming)

Some reminders on what this is!

The Epic Secret Santa is a gift exchange! In which the gifts are either drawings, written works, or edits, relating to Epic The Musical! To participate you fill out the above form. Later after people have filled it out, you will get messaged with the person you have been assigned to! (Meanwhile someone would get you- and everyone gives and gets something.) These gifts would have to be posted by December 25th at the latest, and probably could be posted the week before also!

If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask! And please bear with me as this is my first time trying to organize something like this!

Something I've been thinking a lot about recently

Would be Eurylochus's line in mutiny, "If you want all the power you must carry all the blame!" Because even though he sings it to Odysseus, it's not about Odysseus at all. That line perfectly encapsulates Eurylochus's own arc, and foreshadows his death.

I'm sure other people have talked about this as well, but I had to comment on it and how clever it is. Because Eurylochus did want all the power. For a while now, I think. That isn't to say he's been power hungry, but throughout the course of the musical he has grown increasingly dissatisfied with Ody's decisions. Especially from Ocean saga onwards, when Polites isn't there to keep the peace, I get the vibe that he feels that if only he was the one in charge, he could get them home. He would never have gotten them into these dangerous situations they find themselves in. It's his coping mechanism - blaming Odysseus helps keep his own guilt about the wind bag at bay. It's probably why he feels he can tell Odysseus about the wind bag, because he feels that it isn't entirely his fault.

Odysseus doesn't agree, of course, and all of this pent up anger and frustration finally comes to a head in Mutiny. Eurylochus yells this line to him, fully believing that Odysseus doesn't deserve to be in charge anymore and he has a point but that's a post for another day. What Eurylochus doesn't realise, though, is that when he takes Odysseus's power from him and becomes the leader, he will be held to the same standard.

So when he chooses to kill those cows, his words become a self fulfilling prophecy. For a moment, he had all the power. He made a choice. And he had to carry all the blame.

It's not going well, she really hates the winions  😅  She thinks the name winions is not original cause it sounds too much like minions. So far she has referred to them as 'furries' and 'ewoks'...

Epic from the perspective of someone on the other ships is like, so funny to me

I mean, imagine you have just got through the worst war of your life. Ten long years and you’re finally able to see your family again. Then your captain/commodore I guess/king says he’s going to go check out this creepy island.

Whatever, you were feeling hungry anyways. Then it’s off to a cave, where you sit around waiting for a weirdly long time until the crew of the fleet’s flagship emerge significantly worse for wear. The really nice guy who used to share his lunch with you sometimes is gone. The king is busy having an argument with thin air on his ship. Everyone is covered in blood.

Oh well, at least you can enjoy this mutton they brought back.

Then there’s a massive freaking storm and you’re literally about to die before you’re handed a harpoon and told to throw it as hard as you can at the sky? And you end up tethered to this beautiful floating island but you can’t even appreciate it because the king is busy having an argument with his first mate. It’s super awkward for everyone else.

The king disappears and returns with a cool glowing bag which these weird little creatures seem to think is treasure, but the king insists is dangerous. You shrug it off and go back to your ship.

Finally, nine days of peace! Nothing weird happens and you’re starting to believe you might actually make it home when THE FREAKING STORM COMES BACK YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE DONE WITH THIS!!

You’re blown away from your home and your family and end up in this scary place with a whole bunch of giants and a very angry Poseidon singing about a cyclops. And you’re like what?? We never blinded a cyclops?? What are you talking about?? And then before you have a chance to question it you straight up drown in a tidal wave conjured to teach someone else a lesson.

No wonder they were so mad in the underworld. When does a man become a monster?? Probably when he doesn’t even bother providing context to his men before they die!
