So many turkeys to choose from these days.

Tiki Travel Tips no. 1 (a and b)! 1a -Buy your London-Paris Eurostar tickets in advance. They are embarrassingly expensive at the last minute. It is cheaper, but less charming, to fly. Cheapest option yet is a bus/ferry to Calais/bus option. The last is almost free, but do factor in the likelihood of vomiting your way across the Channel. Many a breakfast will end as fish food on that route. (If you are young and vomiting is a normal, though regrettable, part of a Saturday morning, take the cheap seats.) 1b. If you are on Eurostar, don't miss the Marks and Sparks Simply Food just across from the check-in. There is candy in souvenir tins to buy for everyone you holiday to forget. And for yourself, grab a charming cold beverage. The second Pimm's was warm by the time I'd gotten to my hotel in Paris, but the idea of it fortified me in the endless cattle pen taxi line at Gare Du Nord. I am very certain in hindsight that the metro would have been the better option.

Pages 3/4 of ‘One Day Like Any Other’ Our heroine works a job she could not have gotten without a college degree, but the same job doesn’t pay enough to recoup the cost of the degree. Women for whom college is not an option end up in service jobs, earning a wage supplemented by tips, which ties their earnings directly to their likeability*. College is no longer a clear benefit for women, but more a preventative measure. *women in the US are more ‘likeable’ if they are young, pretty, white or lighter-skinned, and a native English speaker with a neutral accent. #education #studentdebt #servicework #feminism #whitefeminismhasitslimitations
