Unsorted WOF thoughts part 159:
A list of reasons why The Dangerous Gift is probably my favorite book in the mainline series and definitely my favorite book in arc 3:
We finally get to check up on Pyrrhia and see the aftermath of arc 2.
The reveal that Tundra was really just a repressed weirdo, even by IceWing standards.
Glacier's death wasn't meaningless or for shock value.
Snowfall's PTSD isn't ignored.
Snowfall gets to be dramatic as hell in ways that are as hilarious as they are sad.
Snowfall and Lynx spend literally like 80% of the book by each others' sides.
The reveal that Winter wasn't actually banished by Snowfall, and Snowfall subsequently calling him a drama queen (she's one to talk.).
The reveal that Crystal wasn't plotting anything, and was literally just hanging out in Sanctuary. (IceWing royalty just LOVES to assume the worst in their family.)
More Qinter.
It introduces Wren.
Snowfall becomes the most informed character in the series, making her pov worth reading through.
We finally get an explanation and justification for the disappearance of animus magic in a way that makes sense.
Mink.
"It was inside you all along." Played completely straight finally. I'm tired of novels that hate tropes.
The book ends with Snowfall literally smashing racism and classism to pieces with her fists.
Unsorted WOF thoughts part 137:
A compilation of The Dragonets being the most diehard group of siblings ever written:
The inciting incident of literally the ENTIRE 15 book series being Glory being threatened with death.
Tsunami stabbing one of the most powerful queens in the world through the tail.
Constantly hyping each other up when one feels insecure.
Clay and Tsunami fighting over who gets to die for the other.
Glory melting a man alive for Clay.
The others joining Tsunami in attacking a random SkyWing, no questions asked.
The others attacking Riptide no questions asked when they thought he was threatening Tsunami.
The others staying with Clay while he was chained to the rock even when the flood was starting to rise around him because they refused to let him be alone.
Tsunami getting her uncle thrown in prison for chaining up Clay.
Starflight not even hesitating to out Blister as Kestrel's killer to protect Tsunami from being outed as Gill's killer.
Glory being ready to kill some RainWings as soon as they seemed to pose a threat to the others.
Clay rushing into the NightWing Kingdom and physically fighting NightWing guards to save Glory after spending his entire life being raised to fear the NightWings.
Sunny chasing her would-be kidnappers across the continent to help out the mission.
Clay taking a dragonbite viper for Sunny.
I am terribly sorry to say this, but I can not make any donations currently.
Once I get a job, I will begin donating to those that need money more than I do once again.
I don't get the people dunking on Sunny for being bad daughter tbh. Like, sure she could be better, but that's the thing about CHARACTER FLAWS!?
(All of these points will be disconnected so uh sorry-)
For one, she lived her whole life in a cave with 7 other dragons. 3 being abusive assholes to her. I wouldn't expect them to really teach her about mental health.
Plus, Sunny only knows 2 Night wings who were ever kind to her, Starflight and Fate speaker. Other than that, she just knows the tribe as a lying and dragon kidnapping.
Also, don't forget the fact that her whole personality is hopeful and kind. I would not expect her to find someone as pessimistic as Stonemover enjoyable. It is literally Sunny's foil to show how far hope can get you somewhere, but how little pessimism can get you somewhere (at least, that's how I take it).
And besides, she's still sympathetic towards him. She doesn't directly tell him he's annoying. Hell, she even stays with him for the night. She only leaves because she found a way to stop the war.
Sunny probably made Jade Mountain Academy where he resides because it's big enough for the students. Plus, maybe she did want to see him more, but because running a school is a lot, she has little time.
And did we forget Turtle's book? She was devastated when Stonemover was going to be killed and happy when he got his body back, thinking that he could finally improve his life. She obviously didn't know how bad Darkstalker was, nobody really did.
Sunny is not the best daughter, nobody is. Sure, she should have thought more about the students bothering Stonemover. But she's far from the worst. She's just flawed, shouldn't that be a good thing?
.
kudos to this post for leading to me discovering that narcissism is an actual personality disorder
Calling Darkstalker a narcissist is ableist. There, I said it.

Tui said Beryl the unknown dragon in Scarlets to kill list in the Wings of Fire Guide Book could make an appearance in arc 4 and that her story will be explored eventually (if she isn't in arc 4, maybe a winglet or something) + Umber will be in book 16 when it comes out (currently book 16 is in it's early stages) + Tui said the WoF tv show is in good hands.
