Love it when the kinda half-formed observations you make about an episode finally come to the forefront.
Watching the start of "Dot and Bubble": Hmm, everyone in this episode is very... white.
Halfway through: The Doctor certainly continues to stand out, especially in that bright red sweater amongst all the pastels
Lindy freaking out about the Doctor and Ruby being in the same room together: I suppose that could be due to some cultural taboo about interacting in-person when everyone is supposed to communicate via bubble, but that doesn't track with what we've seen of her work day...
The "twist" that the chronically online, all white, super rich, entitled to the point of satire, willing to sacrifice others without hesitation, oh so eager to colonize people living in a literal bubble (TWO bubbles) are *gasp!* actually, devastatingly racist...
Yeah, that's not a twist. That's all deliberately interconnected. The episode didn't suddenly move from an argument about social media use to an argument about racism; the two historically go hand-in-hand.
Where is "rose is watching her planet die while the doctor is slaying in the corner" I haven't seen her on my dash in a while I miss her
Not the Fifteenth Doctor info-dumping like crazy, calling Gallifrey “posh,” listing the Rani and the Bishop but not the Master, and then immediately asking Ruby to fly with them
The Master listening from their golden tooth:
Holy shit the new Doctor Who episode Went There. It's important that they did, and I'm glad that they executed it seriously, but Fuck.
Otherwise it resembled a forgotten shrine to some barely remembered god, buried in a lost holy place.
honestly kinda obsessed by this description of the tardis (which goes on to describe the console as looking like an altar)
The Master always bringing in diagetic music, (I Can't Decide, Hey Missy, Rasputin, etc) because they've always been a little miffed that THEY couldn't hear the non-diagetic theme music like the Doctor could.
Imagine your best friend swore up and down they could sometimes hear situationally relavent music. Yet you were stuck with a 4 beat pounding in your head or nothing.
Like sooooo unfair. Hand me the aux, I'm leveling the playing field
I loved the line "I thought that was non-diagetic" I love the implication that the Doctor has been able to hear the theme all this time but decided they didn't need to know about all that
"why would they lie?" in the timeless children was such a ridiculous line of dialogue... the first thing the time lords ever do on screen is put the doctor on trial and then execute him and wipe his friends' minds against their and his will. there's an entire series called trial of a time lord where the time lords suck for a series straight. it's not like this is only in classic who or anything, either; in the end of time they're trying to destroy all of reality and in heaven sent they torture the doctor for 4.5 billion years. there's a whole spinoff set on gallifrey which is mostly dedicated to time lords being racist, their horrible political system with its democratic functions like deus ex suicida, and grinding up its character in the imperialist war machine then spitting them back out as infinitely worse people. there's a whole department on gallifrey dedicated to sneaky illegal bullshit and a whole device dedicated to wiping people, including actual children, from time so thoroughly that they never existed. i think, perhaps, the time lords might be bad people maybe
