people on tiktok are feeling sorry for brenner and saying shit like “his actions came from a place of hurt 🥺” as if this man didn’t kidnap children from their families, take away their autonomy, abuse them for their powers, psychologically damage & manipulate them, dehumanise them by shaving their heads and addressing them by numbers, OH YEAH and fry terry ives’s brain when she went looking for her daughter????? this all happened BEFORE the massacre but I’m seeing these comments acting like brenner actually used to be a lovely kind loving man who became cruel after the massacre…like. NO?????

he was ALWAYS an evil, terrible, awful person. he didn’t just magically become evil one day. he was ALWAYS like that. he didn’t “love” the kids, he loved their powers and using them for his own gain. you could argue that he became crueller to el after the massacre because he believed she was a murderer and a dangerous weapon, but I don’t believe he was ever truly kind to the children in a way that wasn’t manipulative or self-serving. he is seen to be sad and angry when he sees the kids are dead, but he’s not sad because he loved them, he’s sad that his little lab rats are dead and he can’t experiment on them anymore.

i can’t believe people watch the last of us and hear “save who you can save” and “there was one person worth saving. and that’s what i did, i saved him and i protected him. that’s why men like you and me are here” and then somehow get to the season one finale and don’t understand the thesis of the show. you can philosophize back and forth on the good of the one versus the good of the many, but in crisis, in truly awful situations, our selfishness is bravery. it’s brave to refuse to let the harsh world take away what matters to you. joel saved ellie because in a world of unimaginable chaos and tragedy we have to cling to love at all costs. it’s human. it’s natural. it’s illogical, maybe. but it’s what we do for each other. because human beings even in our darkest hours cannot bear to live in the world without love. and god help any motherfuckers that stand in our way.

People’s reactions to the Thor reveal has really thrown into relief:

1) People really think Marvel is an accurate representation of Norse mythology

2) Hollywood has really fucked up people’s perceptions of the human body

3) Fatphobia is gross and stupid.

It seems unfair for M&W shippers to claim they were queerbaited when the show has done nothing narratively substantial to make viewers believe M&W would be canon? We can talk about ‘looks’ and ‘hidden meaning’ but these are things which are completely subjective and liable to personal bias (we all do it). As far as a narrative standpoint goes, M&E have always been presented as a canon ship where feelings are mutually reciprocated on both ends. Mike clearly loves them both and I suppose that in itself was enough to give M&W shippers reason to believe it was open to interpretation (understandable.) However there’s a difference between our own interpretation and what the show has presented. Reading into the subtext of ‘looks’ has always been a thing in fandom but due to it’s inherent bias has always been more of a headcanon phenomenon rather than actually indicative of canon. That being said, Mike being in love with El has never been contrived or forced but rather a natural narrative progression from what was already an established focal point of the show (whether or not people like or hate it). The show has been pretty straightforward in establishing Mike and El as a love story and Mike caring for Will as his best friend. Again, people are free to ship them and believe they are in love but to act as if the show has queerbaited them is a reach; if anything what they did with W not explicitly coming out is queerbaiting, M not reciprocating his feelings is not. I didn’t use any ship names so hopefully this doesn’t bring you hate!

anon, i couldn’t have said it better myself! b*ylers can ship their ship all they want but when they choose to ignore 4 seasons worth of development between mileven and how their relationship was always part of the story right from the very start and how mike even mentioned all these memories of when they met and how she came into his life (during his monologue). i said it before that b*ylers needed to manage their expectations and stop ignoring things that actually happened on the show because they’re only gonna be majorly disappointed and here we are. mike has always been head over heels in love with el and terrified of losing her. it’s always been el for him and always will be.

it was only ever really from will’s point where we saw feelings (that were never specifically said, however). i understand being upset by this because hey even my heart broke for will. i also do think it was a HUGELY missed opportunity (and it does feel like queerbating) that will didn’t come out to jonathan or mike but hopefully that will happen in the last season.

the day that Will got taken by the demogorgon is not the day that mileven met for the first time, right? Like people just be saying anything.

i think fez likes lexi’s hands way too much. because it’s so lithe and clean and gentle at doing everthing. like he can stare at them for hours and at night her imagines really spicy scenarios involving those hands. one day she wears rings that she and rue had picked out so that she and fez could match with the jewelry thing and he had to confess what he’s been thinking of to her bc she noticed him being weird and one thing led to another hehehehhehe
