my villain origin story is that I saw ben cook as riff in West Side Story previews and don't remember any of it. literally forgot it was him until I watched newsies and was like... i know this man.
I went back and found my playbill as proof but i have ZERO memory.
#jack kelly
they need to invent a running away & never coming back that doesn’t affect your life
OMG YOUR ART IS SO PRETTYYYY 💙💙
could you perhaps do blink x mush (92sies) or jack x sarah 🥺👉👈
:0 Thank you!! <3333 :DD
of course love any excuse to learn more and draw the other newsies
jack seems like he's either:
the kind of guy who babies love, but he is so awkward with them so they just kind of cling onto him while he's stiff and wide eyed and he doesn't know what to do
the kind of guy who babies love, and he's actually very gentle and good with them, which comes as a shock to any of the newsies whenever they see him handling a baby
do you ever think about how the musical adaptation of newsies not only replaced historical newsies names (boots, bumlets, dutchy, snitch, etc...) with made up ones but also replaced these ensemble characters with new, clearly male designated characters (albert, elmer, tommy boy, mike, etc...) or are you normal?
any of the original newsies names could have been applied to newsgirls for the stage, imagine skittery or snipeshooter or even boots as a newsgirl!!
but nooooo
only newsboys existed according to disney
sometimes ur a depressed queer from Chicago and Sufjan Stevens says you want to hear a sad song about being in the midwest that also probably jesus and u say yes sufjan stevens ur the only one who understands me
everything sucks (i've read the whole redfinch tag on ao3)
there are so many missing pieces of Katherine I can't stop thinking about.
Katherine who learned journalism through her father's eyes. Thought it could never be hers, could never be anything but money until she tries it and suddenly, for the first time, Katherine Pulitzer finds power of her own.
Katherine who meets a spitfire boy on the street, all elbows and flirty words and she hates him. But then there he is again, believing in something when he has nothing. She didn't know that was possible. She interviews him and no boy until this one has ever treated her like she was real.
Katherine going home late after the strike breakers, legs tired from running. She goes home and eats dinner with her father, only he isn't her father anymore; he's an abuser who sent police to beat children. When he meets her eyes she shivers and she sleeps with the knowledge her home can't be that anymore.
Katherine who makes a story and a plan, hair a mess and ink stains on her fingers. Who doesn't sleep because every time she closes her eyes she watches her reality crumble apart, revealing a world she wishes she knew sooner.
Katherine who finds Jack on a rooftop and begs him to care about more than money because in her world money has always come before people. But Jack is different and runs because of fear Katherine never knew existed. She learns it for him. Learns it because this awful mix of terror and anger is so much better than the emotionless world she was raised in.
Katherine who falls in love with Jack's heart and mind long before his looks. Katherine who falls in love with Jack because around him she's human and the world is alive.
thinking abt canon newsies details that the characters never escape from, even in fanon. I’ve never read a fic where Jack Kelly has parents, or Katherine gets along with her father, or Davey isn’t battling with other peoples ideas of who he’s supposed to be
just those complex parts of these characters that not even the most hopeful fic writers can take out of them, bc these characters exist as products of their journey.
newsies hadestown au with David as Orpheus and Jack as Eurydice
David working on a song (Always the mouthpiece, the poet, but until he meets Jack he cannot put those words into action, and until he loses Jack he can’t find the power to voice them on his own)
Jack giving in to death (Jack scabbing, he sees David’s dream but can’t deliver on his end for one reason or another)
Davey going to drag Jack out of hell (He sees the dark place Jack are in and offers him hope, this is literally the watch what happens reprise)
Davey leading Jack out of the underworld because he loves him, so much, too much, and he has to look back because a world where Jack isn’t with him isn’t one he ever wants (Davey trying to lead the strike without Jack, unwilling to speak without Jack’s words)
Jack following, content with nothing but the trail Davey leads (literally the entire movie)
Like has anyone written this and if so gimme gimme. The parallels are insane and I'm yearning for it.
