I think this mostly boils down to the Netflix being unnecessary. They could’ve made a brand new show based off the Earthbender Avatar live action and I doubt most would complain. There would be a small amount of “anti woke” grifters who would complain but it’s easy to ignore those bigots. I just think they shouldn’t have adapted the original series. Keep it the way it is. Tell a new story with a new Avatar and make it live action. That would’ve been great!
Something I think ppl who complain about animated shows getting turned into live action forget is that representation matters.
Specifically talking about Avatar The Last Airbender, the creators of the animated show are white guys. The majority of the voice actors are white. The majority of the writers are white.
Yet the story is about Asian and indigenous people. They DREW Asian and indigenous people, so why are you so upset about Asian and indigenous people being excited to inhabit roles created by and voiced by (mainly) white people when it's THEIR culture actually being represented?
Why are you upset that in this live action, they made a point of uplifting as many Asian and indigenous voices, faces, and artistry as they could?
Making an adaptation of something isn't saying the previous medium isn't 'good enough'. It's not insulting the previous medium, it's just a normal human thing to want to retell stories and add to them/delve into aspects of the story that speaks to the adapter. Modern retellings aren't saying classics are 'less than', swapping the genre of a song isn't saying the original genre is 'less than', and making a stage play from a book isn't saying that books are 'less than'.
This post has nothing to do with what you think the QUALITY of the live action was like - this post is about people who view POC adapting a story about THEM as the POC being bad and insulting your precious show created by white guys.
One glance at the cast and producers of the Netflix Avatar will show you that they have nothing but the upmost reverence and love for the animated show - their intent is clearly to honor it and enhance the story, not to claim 'animation bad'.
These two would’ve had a great support!
Edelgard and Ignatz Art Friends modern AU stuff! I started making these after I finished the Edelgard Rarepair week Edelgard & Ignatz comic. I was going to make one with Hubert and another with Bernadetta, but I’ve been working on other stuff and never got around to it.
I will accept anything M!Byleth related.
Edelgard is mostly a lesbian. The only man she'd ever love like she does women is M!Byleth. He might not be her F!Byleth, but he's still a Byleth.
What you see here is part of my Au called “Fullmetal Hylian” basically it’s a remake of Fullmetal Alchemist but with Nintendo characters. Right here we have Link and Aryll as Edward and Alphonse Elric, two teens who after comitting the ultimate taboo when they were just kids to bring their mother back, ended up losing everything with Link losing an Arm and a Leg while Aryll lost her body. Now the two must travel the country of Ragna Ferox in order to find a way to get their bodies back to normal while also uncovering a deep and long running conspiracy that will threaten the world.
I’d like to thank NaijMizuo at Twitter for drawing this for me. Go visit him.
Also if you’re interested in this Au, please go read it at Ao3 under my user name “Darthflores”, currently I’m taking a break because of schools but once finals are over, I’ll go back. So enjoy.
Here’s a link to movies 40-31 to get caught up. https://www.tumblr.com/thefullmetalhylianau/779121321592422400/my-top-50-fav-movies-part-2
This movie is just incredible. It’s a classic example of how Gamera, who was once seen as nothing but a Godzilla knock off, could be taken seriously and even beat Godzilla at his own game. The 90s Gamera trilogy tells a great story about Man vs Nature and how Gamera is a pillar of in an otherwise bleak world. Gamera 3 tells a sad story about revenge and how it consumes you. How a world with giant monsters isn’t what it’s cracked out to be. And how sometimes, what your choices are can influence the world. A great movie that shouldn’t be slept on.
For the longest time, this was my favorite Pixar movie, and only got dethroned by another movie that will be referenced later. Wall • E is a love story between two robots that surrounded by environmentalist themes. And all with limited dialogue in the first act. A lot of people say the second half of the movie isn’t as good but I say no, it’s perfect because it shows just how much we a society can regress. And we have in our modern times. Wall • E is a great cautionary tale about treating the world better and how not to let technology rule your life.
Kiss my ass live action remake, this is the real beauty in the beast. Everything from the characters, to the songs, to the story is peak. This movie is the definition of the term “Disney classic” as when I think of y out r traditional Disney tale, I think of beauty in the beast. Belle is my second favorite Disney princess, being a hard working character who doesn’t give a damn what other people think about her, and isn’t shoved down your throat like the live action remake, ugh why did that make a billion? Either way, it’s a fantastic movie and one I couldn’t do without.
Now this is how you do a Kaiju movie. Legit, Legendary needs to take notes on how to do a proper character piece. Minus one tells the story of a Japanese jet fighter from world war 2, who lives with the guilt of not dying in battle like his garrison. I love how this isn’t like most G flicks and instead tries to be a character study that just so happens to have a giant monster. That is so innovative. This out shines the monsterverse, and that’s already a series I hold dear to my heart. I say go check it out.
Surprisingly this is the only Kubrick movie on my list, which is a real shame because I think he’s done some amazing works. Now Kubrick was one of those directors who’s true strength showed in artistic rather than story telling, some people may not like the Shining or Clockwork Orange, but no matter who you are you have to love Full Metal Jacket. It’s about a funny and horrifying movie that shows the dehumanization of what war can bring to you. I think it’s a good idea to split the movie into two parts where the first ones is about Boot Camp while the second ones about the war in Vietnam. Both parts really do complement each other and what makes a great film. Definitely a good recommendation.
This is the only instant in which I think the remake is actually better than the original classic to me. Al Pacino is Tony Montana. Movie starts off with Tony Montana being an immigrant trying to start a new life in America but he’s soon goes down a life of crime. He soon climbs his way up to the top and creates his own criminal empire. I think what makes this movie be so great is how attached you become to Tony, Montana even though he kills people and does a bunch of terrible things. He has his limits, as there is this one pivotal scenehe doesn’t wanna blow up a car simply because it has a wife and kids in it. There’s a lot of movies out there where you root for the good guys but here you root for the bad guys.
I remember reading the book in my senior year of high school and the movie very much impressed me. In this movie, Jack Nicholson plays a criminal. Who’s serving his sentence in prison, but he pretends to be mentally ill so we can be transferred to the mental institution, but he soon finds out that he’ll be stuck there indefinitely, so now he wants out. He begins a friendship with everyone else there in the hospital and inspires a rebellion against the coldhearted nurse ratchet. This is easily Jack Nicholson’s best film and one I recommend to everyone.
This movie is what defined Steven Spielberg’s works. The movie tells the story of a lonely kid named Elliot, who befriends an alien left behind by his family. Two develop a bond as E.T. Learns the value of friendship and earth while Eliot becomes a lot more out going. A highlight is defiantly the climax of this movie. Check it out.
First of all, rest in power Val Kilmer,
Tombstone is what I considered the last great western, a beautiful sendoff to a great genre of film making. Kurt Russell plays Wyatt Herb, a law man who’s on the hunt for the fierce cowboy gang led by Curly Bill Brocius, and to protect the town of tombstone. This movie is just incredible as it really goes to show how historically accurate it is, but also took liberties to romanticize it for a more brought audience. Sure that may be a negative on some people, but keep in mind. This is a romanticized version of the old west and the character was as a romanticized as Doc Holliday. A smooth, talking drunk who lives every day like it’s his last cause it might as well be. He had tuberculosis so his thought was that “fuck it. I’m gonna die anyway in fact, his whole philosophy would die with his boots on as he thought he’d die in a gun battle, but after pissing off a whole bunch of people, he ended up dying in a hospital bed without his boots truly, the joke was on him. I highly recommend this movie. It is truly a classic.
No Godzilla movie has topped the original 1954 classic. Gojira has pioneered the Tokusatsu genre of film making, and made it what it is today, Gojira is a cautionary tale about the dangers of Nuclear science, from a country that experienced it first hand. I truly believe if you’re gonna start watching a Godzilla movie, it should be with this one.
Owain here trying to protect his little sibling after the other went missing. Hoping the missing one is doing okay.
family.
It’s scary how this is their last post.
I have to go for now. I will hopefully be back rather late tonight, or possibly tomorrow morning, depending on whether I am awake tonight or not.
This is the way!
Now this was a commissions I forgot to upload for a while, but now I’m making up for it. Here we have Link and Aryll, after taking year to get used to their new bodies, sparing with one another to prepare for their journey.
Big thanks to BeanieCapPrints for taking this commission and bringing it to life. Go visit her on instagram. She’s the best.
If you’re interested in this au, go read it on ao3, hope you enjoy it.
Yes. Good.
After consulting with Ling, May, and Lan Fan, Al ended up writing the story of the Promised Day as a Xingese fairy tale, primarily from Ling and May’s point of view. He felt that the world needed to know the story somehow and the others agreed.

Welcome to the Fullmetal Hylian Au, this here is where you can see what Nintendo characters would look like as characters from Fullmetal Alchemist. Thanks to every Artist that helped with this Au! They all get credit!
