(THE BOOK OF BILL SPOILERS!!)

Thinking about Bill’s appearance at the end of the book…

When confronting the Axolotl, Bill is broken. The Axolotl even notes this: "Shattered, broken, not yet dead."

(Which, side note, makes me think Bill might have been lying about having been "kicked out of Hell," if he didn't actually die in Stan's head.)

When he's shown in the Theraprism, we see a glowing, static-y scar where the cracks were. The scar crosses his entire body (and even crosses to the other side of his eye without affecting it!), but he's actually whole, keeping himself together.

But then...

[ID: Two pictures of Bill from the last pages of the book. In the first one he is facing forward and holding up one finger, his eye reddened, his entire form glitching, and his crack is notably worse than prior, cracking through his eye, multiple smaller pieces drifting away. In the second one he is staring blankly at the viewer, his arms hanging limply, his eye wide and blank, the crack worse than the previous image, with more pieces floating away. /end ID]

In the last few pages, we see the scar is gone and the cracks are back, and even more of him is breaking away, including parts of his eye. It's especially bad in the last image, with even more pieces of him breaking away.

Also noteworthy is that the static texture behind him seems to be the same as the blood sample the US government took from him in the 1940s. He's bleeding.

We know from context that these images are meant to be taken somewhat chronologically. After dying (or nearly dying), Bill seeks out the Axolotl, who sends him to the Theraprism. While there, he writes the journal that he's beaming to us. The staff at the Theraprism catch onto this, and allow him to write out the last few pages, meaning those last few pages are chronologically the last of Bill we see.

This means that, after the events of the show, Bill was shattered... and then, upon entering the Theraprism, started to heal, his body coming together and scars forming... but at some point afterward, he started breaking apart again.

I'd made a post previously about Bill's development, how he views himself as a monster after the Euclidian Disaster, and how he continues to act monstrous afterward (and winds up agonizingly lonely as a result). I didn't really touch on this in the post, but I feel like after inadvertently destroying his home dimension...

Bill never left the denial phase of grief.

I could be wrong on this, but I get the feeling that part of his reason for acting monstrous toward just about everybody is because he sees himself as a monster, because "this is just how I am" is easier to accept than "I really really screwed up."

Bringing this back to his shattering... It's interesting to me that after entering the Theraprism, his body is scarring, which means it is healing. But then, at the end, as he's signing off the book, he's shattered again, and looking even worse than he did when talking to the Axolotl. When talking this over with a friend, they pointed out something that struck me:

Bill does not want to heal.

Healing means having to actually think through what happened. It means having to confront his past, confront destroying his home dimension, confront the harm he caused to others, confront the fact that he did not have to be this way.

And he refuses to do that.

He refuses to heal.

no one asked, but here is my big speech about shinra/izaya friendship

i wanna start with their school selves

i saw a lot of people saying that izaya was normal at school and shinra just made him "bad", but in my view it's not the thing. like, in shool izaya already wasn't "normal", he just tried his best to pretend to be an ordinary student. he didn't make any close relationship, isolating himself from strong connections with people (just like he's doing it now), but still had to be in the society because of his interest in humas

shinra wasn't really different from his current self. he was obsessed with celty and she was the reason he made friends with izaya and he didn't really care about others or anything that surrounds him in general. he stayed in his comfort zone (love to celty) and was alright

as i said, shinra invited izaya to his biology club because celty told him to socialize

then, izaya became interested. because shinra's lifestyle was different and opposite of izaya's, especially because their different opinion on humans: izaya loved them, shinra didn't care but he loved celty who is not human, so izaya was genuinely interested in his personality

izaya started feeling real attachment to shinra. now he was not just an interesting person, he was a friend. izaya felt free with him because they both were weird and shinra accepted izaya with all his strange hobbies and interests. their communication was full of mutual acceptance and they both were happy with it. but izaya's genuine attachment is really strong, as long as shinra preferred keeping distance with everyone except celty. not because he didn't like something about izaya nor he didn't care, it was just comfortable for him like that

the key thing: shinra being stabbed by nakura. i can talk about different aspects of this moment

for shinra it's just another proof of his crazy love for celty — he protected izaya mostly because he thought celty would praise him for such a heroic actions

for izaya it was a complex thing. at first, he was shocked by being protected for the first time. at second, he felt jealous and that's what i find a really important thing. he felt jealous because shinra wasn't alone even if he's so uninterested in others. he had someone who he loved, he had someone to love him, he had important connections, basically he had things izaya didn't

but despite everything, he still was a friend to izaya, so izaya wanted revenge. so, to my mind, this whole situation not made him who he is now, just gave him the reason to stop trying to conform and show his true self

eventually he promised to make nakura pay for this. shinra just agreed and gave izaya free reign. and izaya really kept his promise. 12 years passed and nakura is still suffering

izaya calls that nakura moment the turning point of his life and the thing that influenced his current self the most

i see this part as the starting point for everything happening in the plot, because this was the moment when izaya finally decided what to do

when shinra and izaya finish school, they see each other more rarely. because it's not necessary to meet every day and they both have things to do. shinra happily lives with celty, again, staying in his comfort zone and izaya, who doesn't have any life and friends, is alone with his love for humans and crazy ideas. and still he thinks about shinra as a friend

and shinra calls him a friend too

but shinra has priorities and celty is the most important of them, so when izaya calls him from the hospital, he just hangs up

shinra lives in his love and keeps distance with everyone else as always and izaya suffers with his attachment alone, because he can't and doesn't want to get rid of it. but he understands that he's the only one to blame in his state (because he chose such a life for himself) so he isn't angry at shinra. maybe just a bit

there is another important moment, when izaya thinks about shinra being mad at him, feels something like guilt and beats the telephone pole

friendship with shinra is the closest relationship izaya has, but again, i can't blame shinra for his uncaring attitude. he treasures izaya and still accepts him and izaya's problems are not something shinra can solve

their relationship can't be seen through the prism of normal friendship because they both are extraordinary people with their own standards

With the bulk of the blood spilled by a Reaper’s Death Scythe producing the record of their memories, I would really like to know whether there is any relevance to the separatw spots of blood that are cast off filled with thwir own individual images.

Are they simply reflective of singular emotions that have 'splashed' free as a surplus from the blood producing the full reel? Are they singular memories that have been kept separate in the person's heart for a specific reason - a moment, or an individual, that they hold most dear to them?

We know that Rachel was the person that Angelina always felt closest to, and that she loved her sister the most deeply of all.

Biology in Diabolik Lovers

Okay, so you know in the first season of the anime, towards the end, when Yui goes unconscious and Reiji flounces off to go make a potion? Rejet did the lovely thing of actually showing three of the pages of his book, as follows:

Now, most would pass these over as filler. I did, the first umpteen times I watched it. However, I’ve taken a 12U Biology and a 12U Chemistry class (this here sentence also acting as a disclaimer because I’m no expert), and recognized the molecule in the first picture to be an organic one, redrawn here, to be more clear:

At first, because of the double rings, I thought it might be a sugar, and found it hilarious. Rejet was just trying to seem smart, poor Reiji is being reduced to making sugar water.

But no.

I did some looking, and this is actually very, very similar to the structure of a nucleotide. To explain, our DNA is made up of sequences of four different bases: Guanine, Cytosine, Adenine, and Thymine. The names aren’t really important here, but it is important to know that there’s two types: Purines, and Pyrimidines. Purines (Adenine and Guanine) have two rings, and Pyrimidines (Cytosine and Thymine) have only one. As such, Cytosine and Guanine will bond together in a DNA strand, where Thymine and Adenine will bond together.

Why is this important?

Looking at the structure, it’s just a neat little thing Rejet thought to include. Maybe they had a chemistry nerd on their team that wanted to have some fun and add some realism, except, one thing is weird and would never happen IRL.

These single bonded carbons. That’s really, really weird, and I consulted with my Biology teacher, who couldn’t make sense of it either. However… thinking back to the context of the issue, Why is Reiji making the potion?

He’s trying to force Cordelia out.

I hypothesize that those two separate rings are bonded together because Cordelia’s DNA has latched onto Yui’s. Those bonds, very, very breakable bonds, are desperately latching these two otherwise extraordinarily singular compounds together. And that’s really freaking neat. Furthermore, what does Kanato give Reiji to finish the potion? Cordelia’s ashes. Cordelia’s DNA. For it to latch back onto itself. For further hints, take a look at the second and third pictures.

The second (first in this repost) shows the inside of a cell going through mitosis, where cells split for growth, healing, etc. It’s showing DNA replication. In the final picture, it’s showing the DNA ‘ladder’, base pairs included and clearly marked (the little lines that look like rungs).

TL;DR: Rejet is smarter and more thorough than we give it credit for, and Reiji likes to fuck around with DNA.

the most interesting thing about gojo satoru's character is his irony.

his abilities, while making him the Strongest, are simultaneously his folly. everything "strong" him is at odds with who he is, what he wants, who he wants. this is why geto's question during the breakup was so debilitating— who is he without power? is power all he is?

the answer is ironic. he has the six-eyes, but he couldn't see geto deteriorating right in front of him. he was honing his power, which was ironically enough a key piece in fuelling geto's defection. his power, which is all he understands himself to be, causes him to lose the person he wants most, which has nothing to do with his power at all.

he has the limitless, but he's limited by love. as a literary device, kenjaku is a physical manifestation of gojo's weakness, of his love— shibuya only happened because he couldn't bring himself to destroy his beloved's body, an unmistakable act of overwhelming sentiment and intimacy. gojo's strength is not unidirectional; it bifurcates and goes in one direction while his overpowering love goes in another, leaving him in some liminal place in between. his love imprisons him in his youth (shown by how he always returns to it) and it also literally imprisons him in a box (the prison realm).

he has infinity, which doesn't let anyone or anything close to him, yet he aches for companionship. gojo forms allies so "no one will ever have to be alone again", because even though he has the world in his hand, it's on the condition that it's his alone. gojo craves closeness (from one person in particular) and his powers literally prevent him from attaining it. his desires are not only in direct opposition with his abilities, his abilities prevent him from fulfilling his desires.

he repeatedly tells megumi that sorcerers are alone when they die, but he stays by geto's side til the very end. after geto appears to "come back", gojo's first instinct is to smile, which goes against any and all logic, six-eyes or not. his barest self betrays him despite the fact that he knows he killed geto with his own hands a year ago. when he confronts kenjaku, he does the inverse of what happened with geto— he defies his six-eyes and looks with his soul, something that should've happened when he asked geto if he was okay all those years ago.

the things that make gojo satoru strong are the same things that make him weak. he is supposedly a god amongst humans, but his folly is that he's the most human of them all. he yearns, he loves, he aches, he craves— gojo satoru knows firsthand that love is the most twisted curse of all because he nakedly bears its cross.

Dazai and Odasaku have a fascinating connection I never noticed before, their views on killing for justice.

It's very interesting that two characters who both have no issue with killing people and have killed hundreds themselves see the incredible danger of "killing for justice"

Killing for greed, killing for revenge, killing for boredom... all of these are personal things, they stay focused on the person who's doing the killing, but if you kill because you think it's right, then you will seek out more people to kill unendingly "Their religion is heresy", "Their whole country is evil", "They don't respect my authority" and soon even people who have done nothing wrong are killed because "they could be a threat later"

The moment you justify killing, you can never stop, there will always be more criminals who deserve to die, and soon it won't matter if they deserved it or not.

To start the new year well, I finished drawing Carla!

This time I tried to a slightly different way of drawing the eyes, little less simplified nose, sharpest fearures and used more detailed shadows. I mostly tried to turn my eye study into practice (I don't know what you think, but it seems to me that giving up lineart gave a slightly better effect).

Still struggle with figuring out how to draw long hair but I'm satisfied that I have left the comfort zone for once! And I give up drawing the ahoge on purpose because I don't think they fit his serious look.

i’m a laito stan, he’s the hottest man for me but hard agree on ayato looking the best in cgs!!!! how did they manage to make him look so consistently pretty in every cg even the non satoi ones is smth i’ll always question- even in merch arts he always looks fine, i’ve never even seen someone complain about his looks tbh.

Other than that, Ayato is labelled ‘Visual God’ for a reason. He’s considered the most desired face in otome games.

i just saw a new batch of characters for a mobile otome game and when we say “ayato is the blueprint” we mean it. the red hair + sharp green eyes + edgy look ayato introduced is so popular even years later, people still use him as the standard for ML’s in games. it’s just… such a good design and so recognizable too. i just love him so much and his influence is everywhere!! ayato is the IT boy.

I doubt he was the first character with those features, yet he was the trendsetter. A bunch of otoge boys are designed to resemble him, but with different eye or hair colors, and when people see them, they'll immediately think of Ayato.

Another thing to mention is that Ayato is visually perfect. He has the most desirable features, and I’ve even seen people getting insecure for not looking as pretty as him. Of course, they shouldn’t do that but that’s inevitable to happen when the character represents the ideal of beauty. Even his body is confirmed the ideal one.

Ayato has always been popular in terms of design but in recent years, his appearance and personality have made him HUGE. He’s so famous that people don’t even care about polls anymore, for the mere reason that whether he wins or not, he’s impact, visuals and sales remain unmatched.

Last but not least, I really advise people not to compare themselves to fictional characters. I know Ayato is gorgeous but his visuals are realistically impossible to achieve. Everyone is beautiful in their own way, after all.

Admin’s note: Sakamaki Shu is one of my favorite boys and also one of the most disappointing characters 😭. But I personally love this CD and how Shu receives karma for all the words and behavior he had with Yui and that he realizes that no matter how hard he tries to will not dear anyone to himself, Yui has entered Shu's heart without him realizing it, and Shu cannot live without her.

The story begins with Shu complaining about how long Yui has been asleep or in a coma. This is very funny for a boy who sleeps 90% of the time.

But as he said himself, he never thought he would put himself in trouble to take care of Yui, or at least that's what he thinks because the evidence shows otherwise from Shu here.
