Idk About You Guys But In My Opinion, As Much As I Love Lloyd, We Should Give Kai And Nya An Entire Season

Imagine little Kai walking around the village with little Nya. They find some pretty lil flowers and Kai helps do up Nya's hair so he can put the flowers in her hair, she takes one from her hair and puts it into Kai's hair...

I needed to do this, that's all. (I also wanted to do one about Kai's hair but could find the picture of him in anime style 😔)

Id like to think Kai and Wu are both the shortest members of the team and kinda have a dynamic similar to Edward and Pinako from FMA - that is, constantly mocking each other for being short despite being short themselves

Headcanon's time

Nya is a bad cook.

After joining the ninja team, she did not really want to open up, so she tried to fit into some girly stereotypes.

Wear dresses more often, apply cosmetics and perfume.

Be careful and restrained.

Nya thought that if she showed her real self, she would be judged or even ridiculed for such behavior, so when it was her turn to cook, Kai always came to her aid.

Spending time with Zane helped him break bad cooking habits and improve his skill. ("Kai, don't be afraid to spend food, we always have money to buy another cabbage", "You cook well, but add more salt and bay leaves for fragrance. )

And every time at dinner, the ninja and Sensei would eat delicious food prepared by "Nya" while mistakes in the amount of seasoning, overcooked salmon, and simply awful tea made by "Kai".

Even though her brother didn't care about the comments about "his" mistakes, if Nya was so comfortable, she herself felt guilty and ashamed.

For several nights she tried to learn how to cook, injuring her fingers and cooking utensils, but the result was only bitter bread, undercooked chicken, and tears of disappointment.

Kai then helped her clean up, hugged and reassured her, because "What difference does it make whether you know how to cook or not, you are my sister and I will accept any of you. Even if you accidentally send someone."

This little support eventually made Nya tell the truth to the team, and despite her fears, they accepted it.

Even supported.

Cole: You know, I'm not good at cooking either. Why are soups so complicated?!

Sensei Wu: Tea is not as easy as it seems at first glance.

Jay: Even if you're a bad cook, don't worry, I like you even like this. UAGH.. Well, I mean, I like you and...EM. NO, I MEAN THAT-

As a result, Nya didn't cook anymore, everyone quietly ate Kai's delicious food, and Jay then got a spoon in the nose after "Kai, why is the salmon overcooked again."

Zane: The salmon is actually cooked just fine.

the reason the kai cole jay team gets more done than the nya zane lloyd team, despite the latter group being the braincell holders of the group, is because kai is willing to do whatever it takes to reach his goal, cole’s been a rebel and down to break rules and expectations since birth, and jay’s a rat bastard.  hope that helps

Kai Version: Isn’t it so incredibly interesting how both smith siblings handled their trauma in drastically different ways?

Kai  has low self esteem/self worth (depends on people, powers, and statements to determine his value), constantly needs to prove himself, and is immensely dependent on external validation (his obsession social media is a prime example of this). He invalidates himself, dismissing his emotions/feelings, and needs regular reassurance (tendency to blame out-of-control situations on himself, likely derived from the mindset that his parents purposely left him because he wasn’t good enough, and i’ll bet my soul he stayed awake  nights wondering that if nya was firstborn, would his parents still leave?) .

His fear of being useless is also likely derived from that same mindset and as such he portrays himself through a cocky/prideful ‘persona’. This is false portrayal of himself, simply to appear stronger in the eyes of others, because if others think he’s of value they won’t leave him, because with or without this ‘mask’ not even he knows who is truly is.

He tends to dissociate during emotionally intense/overwhelming situations, or go into a state shock/confusion. He developed unhealthy coping mechanisms (violently self destructive) with situations regarding loss and grief. All of these things are results of and/or mechanisms he developed from his childhood trauma.

but. despite everything i’ve written above.  he loves nya. raised her. protects/supports her. took lloyd under his wing. he loves lloyd. throws heaps of physical affection towards cole. he loves cole. accepted jay as a brother in law, was so supportive of jaya and helped jay in proposing. he loves jay. makes things fun for zane, reassures him. he loves zane. showed master wu to believe in himself. he loves wu. he loves his entire team and expresses it in ways that value each of them individually. he makes friends with dragons. he loves dragons. he taught/worked with kids. he loves kids. despite what the disappearance of his parents did to him and nya, despite nya’s refusal to show her parents love (valid, btw) kai loved maya. he loved ray.  he loved his parents all over again, he loved his parents again so easily. he loved and loves and keeps loving.

trauma gave him self-destructive mechanisms. trauma instilled insecurity in him. trauma took away his sense of self worth. trauma emptied him of self-love. trauma stole his sense of identity. but kai held on to the ability to protect others, to care for others, to help others. he held them close to his chest. because like hell he’d let his trauma take that.

kai refused to let trauma strip his ability to love. his ability to love is unmatched.

every birthday until kai was however years old and became a big brother he had the same birthday wish and that was having a sibling and when maya was pregnant with nya I will bet you my soul that kai was the happiest kid you’d ever meet and that’s why he was so excited when nya was born and held her like she was his everything and you can’t change my mind

Kai: Well yeah that’s what malnutrition will do to you

Cole barely holding back laughter: kai what did you just say?

Kai: Malnourishment is a bitch.

Turns around to see Ray face and Cole laughing his ass off

Kai: uh? Did I miss something?
