Animals are not a gift or a toy. They are a responsibility that can last for years. If you want to give your family or friends an animal, make sure they are prepared for all the implicit care and emotional attachment.

As someone who loves critters, and who takes care of two aquariums, I have been given animals as presents before. This is Zillo, the only survivor of a group of five juvenile salamanders I was given this last Christmas. I love him to death, and I was thrilled when my brother gave them to me. But I have never cared for a salamander before. It is a completely different kind of care and attention then what I give my fish. As a result, four other perfectly healthy salamanders lost their lives.

If you want to give your friends/family an animal, please consider wether they are prepared to take care of it, or even have the financial and mental bandwidth for it. A much more appreciated way to give a pet to someone is to give them the supplies they will need, rather than the animal itself. A pet owner will love this so much more because often the supplies to care for the pet are more difficult to procure than the animal itself. Not only that, but it shows that you were thinking of the person and the animal when you were buying the gift. I guarantee a pet owner will recognize that and be so much happier

This has been bothering me. I know people have responded saying that you act in a motherly way towards the Batch and towards Omega. I think they are looking at it almost in a “group mom” way. You are someone who acts as a voice of reason, and takes care of the others’ needs like food and play and cleaning.

The thing is: those aren’t inherently motherly traits. Yes many moms do them, but many dads do too. And many people who are neither moms nor dads. It’s just plain, ole caring for someone else’s welfare.

So while understandable that the traits are associated with motherhood and femininity because often our society downplays the nurturing role of the father, people should recognize that they are also fatherly and masculine characteristics. A man is equally capable of caring for his friends and family’s physical needs as he is for their emotional needs. It doesn’t detract from his masculinity if he is emotionally vulnerable to his people. And it doesn’t detract from his masculinity if he wants to give them a better quality of life because he loves them.

Can anyone help me?

I am looking for a Bad Batch fic I read on AO3 which focuses on Crosshair, Tech and Omega while they are captured on Mt. Tantiss. The fic opens with Hemlock breaking Crosshair’s and the Omega’s pinky fingers as a show of his power and cruelty to discourage either from rebelling. It later goes on to show Hemlock forcing Omega to operate on Tech in order to save his life, and Omega willingly subjecting herself to experimentation to ensure that the three are kept together.

I believe I got to this fic through a tumblr post, as I recall that I read it as a guest. If anybody knows what I’m talking about, I’d appreciate it if you could provide a link. It’s a really good fic and I wanted to go back and leave some comments!

EDIT: I found the fic!!! It’s called Through Darkness Unknown by StardustAndAsh on AO3. It was just a bit further back in my history than I thought XD it is a completed work, for those of you who only like reading finished products, and it’s so freaking well-written! Seriously. Go check it out!!
