“Kin”
Two gremlin fetuses painted by me. The first is a mold of the gremlin fetus, or ‘bullet ball’ that was used on screen in Gremlins 2. I then used this as a base and sculpted stripe on top of it, smoothing out the texture of his skin, adding hair and changing the facial horns and expression.
Just learned of the passing of Leonard Cohen and thought I would share this. The painting below, was one I made while at SVA in the early 2000's in Ju Chung's class. We were all given a song and told to make a painting from it. I was given Leonard Cohen's "Tower of Song". It was the first song I ever herd from him and only one of two I can still recall ('Hallelujah' being the other). Now, I have no idea what a 'tower of song' is, but I loved the idea of a swirling tower of record pages going up into the sky. Another lyric I landed on was "I was born with the gift of the golden voice" and the sound of the song sounded so morose and dark, and I liked the idea of this golden voice burning like a fire inside this person. And so I painted this. Not a direct, or great interpretation, but merely incorporating a couple of the things found withing. During class when we had to present our work I remember the teacher stopping at mine and being silent for a second. He then turned and said "I have no idea what this means, but it's pretty cool."
Every year is there is a local fundraiser where we all make bowls which are auctioned off to raise money for the Art Council.
This was a Wizard of Oz themed bowl I made featuring the main characters and their answers to the Wizard’s question ‘What do you want?’
Work in progress: Small Rangda Bust
I found some small Presidential busts at the local thrift store and decided to use them as bases for making some small busts of Rangda and some other figures from Indonesian culture.
I wanted to practice working small as a change from my masks because I am considering doing some 1/6 scale figure customs. Consider this a study I guess. More pics as it progresses.
I am planning on adding the hair and adornments later on.
I plan on molding this when it is completed, although, I may have to mold those big tusks separately.
I have been on a MAJOR Mars Attacks! kick lately and here’s why:
To beat the mid-winter doldrums I am working on the Mars Attacks martian warrior model kit from Moebius. I got it a few years back and finally dug it out to use with my new airbrush. I am customizing the kit because I didn’t like the original pose. I also added more guts on the unfortunate victim to make it look not so cartoony. I am also going to change to position of the figure, the head and the arms and make him carrying a martian flag!
More pics soon!
