I haven’t studied this in depth, but from everything I know the single biggest and most essential barrier against fascism and authoritarian rule is due process. I think it is even more important than free speech which might be a hot take because free speech is also absolutely essential, but without due process there can be no freedom.

You know, I think in the current job environment every young person should have their first job be as a camp counselor. It makes every other job seem divine in comparison. “You’re saying I’m only working 40 hours a week? Wow, I’ll have so much free time!” “I get paid how much?? Whoa! Minimum wage is so high!
