Had To Reblog This Entire Interaction Because It’s So Funny. As Someone Who Didn’t Mind The Whole

Had to reblog this entire interaction because it’s so funny. As someone who didn’t mind the whole Frozen thing - although was admittedly a bit tired of it by the time Merida rolled around, and very sick of it when the whole Aladdin thing happened - I find it very funny how ridiculous the show was in hindsight.

Despite this, I’ll never complain about more Enchanted Forest Rumple - he’s so much more fun than regular Rumple, and the writers hadn’t given up on him in the same way that they had Mr Gold. I love his silly impish mannerisms, the way he cackles, his weird crimped hair and ‘disco lizard’ appearance. I also prefer Enchanted forest Rumbelle, because it wasn’t so toxic, and Belle (despite being his servant) seemed to be closer to an equal. If I were Belle, I would be so mad that the fun, mischievous man I fell in love with had been replaced with a boring guy who is sneaky but in a not fun way. Maybe I’m just looking at the enchanted forest with rose tinted glasses, but eh.

"the disneyfication of ouat ruined the show". i hear you. i wholeheartedly agree with you. but consider that if it had been ANY less disneyfied by even a fraction, we would have been met with the very awful plotline that is rumpelstiltskin being the troll that anna's parents went to when elsa hit her with the ice magic and kristoff consequently would have been raised by rumpelstiltskin as a weird pseudo-son replacement of baelfire

Great art! I love how dramatic and cartoony it is.

Listen, I know Mayura hasn’t been on screen in years, and that Nathalie deserves better than Gabriel, but I can’t deny how great of a villain duo they were! I don’t even ship Gabriel and Nathalie anymore, but Hawkmoth and Mayura will always hold a special place in my heart. Mayura was hands down my favourite character in the show, and I loved seeing her get to be evil alongside Hawkmoth. She was so cool! And way smarter than Gabriel - she got closer to winning in a few episodes than he ever did. Anyway, I have a soft spot for early miraculous, mainly because I grew up watching it. I could write an essay about how Hawkmoth was better - and more enjoyable - before he became melded with Gabriel (it’s so weird how the villains seem to act and speak differently once transformed - Nathalie is a lot more affectionate, for one)

Anyway, great art, love it. Keep it up!

Movies with Scarecrow vibes?

Ahhh, thank you so much for sending this! This might be long-winded, as I tend to be, but such is the way of Cranerot!

Naturally, Brian de Palma's Carrie. Aside from the plot and thematic matches almost eerily to Scarecrow: Year One to the point I'd be shocked if it wasn't a direct inspiration, de Palma's camp balanced with heartrending drama and tragedy and a horror where nearly everyone involved is a monster has Crane written all over it. I actually have several tracks from the score on my inspiration playlist for when I'm writing him!

Hellraiser (1987)! Jonathan Crane is so, so, so Cenobite-coded (highly recommend @acapelladitty's Cenobite!Crane AU, incidentally)! An old house filled with secrets, a plucky heroine whose sanity is doubted but who wins the day (at a great cost), and creatures that want to bring you to the height of sensation until the joy is inextricable from the anguish...it very much suits his more sensual reverent speeches/quotes about fear. "We have such sights to show you" could so easily be a Scarecrow quote, and likewise, "Eventually, the victim desires the horror" could very believably be a Pinhead line!

Since you mentioned it in The Most Poetical Topic, Night of the Hunter (1955) as a Southern noir quasi-folktale thriller absolutely suits the more charming, insidious iterations of Crane, in atmosphere, setting, antagonist, and in the themes of corrupted religion. The themes of childhood fears and defeating your demons while also struggling with their humanity both suit different phases of Jonathan Crane in his life, and the responses to and from the people he knows and terrorizes.

On the note of the South, O Brother Where Art Thou provides heavy atmosphere that give off Crane vibes, bringing a mythic epic to the setting of his backstory, with the music and monsters therein giving a good feel of everything that built the man and the monster.

Also naturally, many a mad scientist movie! The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari gives us a corrupt asylum director who torments his patients until he eventually becomes one of them, and Re-Animator gives us an actual former Scarecrow actor, Jeffrey Combs, in a very Crane-like role when it comes to being penalized in academica for horrific and unethical experiments. (It's even set in the original Arkham for which Gotham's is named!!) The Fly isn't quite as on point, but it does still give those vibes as well. And although the degree of 'madness' when he plays him is debatable, any of Cushing's roles as any member of the Frankenstein family come to mind since he's very much an old school!Crane figure.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984): yes, yes, 'look out for Mr. Pricky-Fingers', in the words of Codotverse!Scarecrow, but fear gauntlets/needles gloves aside, Freddy is the boogeyman who is literally fed on fears, and he much better gives the feel of a distinctly Scarecrowish tormentor than, say, your average Pennywise or other. Nancy's speech to him at the end is highly reminiscent of those who've managed to successfully stand up to Crane over the years, too.

Halloween (1978): On the note of boogeymen, and other than the "one good scare" quote you yourself have mentioned, I imagine Scarecrow to move and function a lot like Michael Meyers; slow, creeping, inevitable. Every kid in Gotham City thinks this place is haunted. They might be right!

For the pure fanservice of it/JonBecky vibes, let's say both the Lon Chaney and Charles Dance Phantom of the Operas, Death Takes a Holiday (1934), The Shape of Water, and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir inspire how I conceive of the more romantic side of our beloved Scarecrow. I'll throw in Silence of the Lambs as well, since that gives us an incarcerated evil psychiatrist meeting his match in an intrepid young woman involved with the law who he forces to face her formative traumas, but who manages to come out on top despite his machinations.

A few Hitchcocks, honestly! The Birds is outright referenced in Year One and definitely gives life to the visceral horrors he underwent in the old Keeny chapel, whereas Vertigo more in atmosphere and obsession captures a lot of torment he experiences. I also do see shades of crane even in Norman Bates' "private traps" speech!

Thanks so much for sending this along!

Exactly. Regina Just Didn’t Give Him A First Name. Gold Has No Friends, And Is Only A Landlord, So

Exactly. Regina just didn’t give him a first name. Gold has no friends, and is only a landlord, so she didn’t think he’d need one.

Sorry I didn't get this posted on the 12th, I was having a lot of computer issues and wasn't able to be around as much as I wanted to be. Have it now (as well as a bonus Neal one) as a Valentine's Day treat!

Couldn’t agree more.

hordak is such a ridiculous man because my brother really came out here with the COOLEST fucking entrance and he was genuinely being set up as such a scary and threatening villain

Hordak Is Such A Ridiculous Man Because My Brother Really Came Out Here With The COOLEST Fucking Entrance

like look at this he actually looks so fucking cool when we first see him. i honestly thought he was going to be our main villain for the entirety of the series.

but then we see him interact with entrapta and then the realization suddenly hits that not only is he the most awkward person ever he's also just turned into like WifeGuy™ the second entrapta talks to him.

Hordak Is Such A Ridiculous Man Because My Brother Really Came Out Here With The COOLEST Fucking Entrance

absolute fucking loser i'm just obsessed with how hard he tries to just act like a normal villain; like he has the scary armor, the dimly lit lair and throne, even his voice sounds scary like.

he even has his own weird little minion and whatever the fuck shadow weaver is. generally, his whole scary vibe and plans for world domination set him up as a proper villain, but then he meets entrapta and all of that just CRUMBLES and is tossed out the window.

10/10 i'm a fan of the progression.

My thoughts exactly! I’m always so embarrassed when people ask me what my favourite anime / manga series is, because of the associations with the fan base. I don’t even bother saying it these days, I just go with Death Note, Kamisama Kiss, or My Hero Academia - although these ALSO have associations that aren’t great…

He’s beautiful. Already love satanised, and can’t wait for the new album.

The fact that the first thing he did was fail to open a door tells me that we’re in good hands. Can’t wait to see what this little idiot will be like…

If Perpetua’s colour is purple, what does Terzo get?

I’m so excited man

Exactly.

You draw a lot of soft big brother Primo and for that I'm super grateful but like, do you have any art/ideas for unhinged Primo who wants to punch pandas and invade countries and all that? Just curious 👀

Sorry for the long delay :'] I’m sorry I don’t currently have any doodles or art of unhinged Primo, but that doesn’t mean I’m not plagued by Primo thoughts.

The big disclaimer here is that this is all personal headcannons; I’m the type of Ghost fan that generally wants to follow the cannon, but also, you know, is more than fine with adapting and extrapolating a few things… So, all this is about my Personal Primo conjecture lol

Everything we’ve ever gotten about Primo in cannon paints him as batshit crazy, but somehow fandom morphed him into a much gentle figure. And I honestly enjoy both sides and think he can be both :’]

Like… Primo loves his little brothers, but hates humans. He grows a beautiful garden but anticipates the day it will be destroyed in Armageddon. He makes tea blends with the same precision he would conduct a sacrificial ritual. He curls up in an armchair next to a cozy fireplace with an ancient tomb on demonology in his lap. There is a non-zero amount of dead bodies in his garden, feeding the flowers with their decaying flesh.

And he believes there’s something beautiful about that; the cycle of life and death, the miracle of life and the necessity of death.

Primo hates the government and he hates society; he hates humanity. He believes it to be corrupt and evil – and looks forward to the day that it reaps what it deserves. It also means that he doesn’t have a lot of personal objections to doing ‘evil’ things, himself.

I do not think that makes him a complete monster (because completely chaotic evil characters aren’t that interesting to me). Primo doesn’t go out of his way to be cruel.

Like, Primo has no qualms with sacrificing a goat or lamb on the alter, but wouldn’t kick a puppy. Primo wouldn’t hesitate to kill a man if he deemed it necessary, but he’s always kind to children. He would burn down a government building for fun, but he wouldn’t burn down a family home. He would absolutely have a reporter abducted because the Clergy kept badgering him to do interviews, but would see to it that the reporter had lunch.

Now – the Ghost Project.

Primo had no interest in it. He looked at his father, who he hates, and the flashy, rock n’ roll lifestyle, and quickly decided he wanted nothing to do with it. But he wasn’t given a choice in the matter. He does come around to aspects of it, though. He realizes that music can be a powerful tool to lure people into the Ministry. He realizes that he can influence people with music.

He commits to Ghost; writing songs and performing, singing Satan’s praises. His time as frontman is dedicated to his dark lord. Primo does not want the Ghost Project to be about him – he wants it to be about the message, alone. So, he tries to stay anonymous. He tries to stay separate.

But the people want a rockstar, they want interviews, they want personalization. And the Clergy pressures him to give them that. So, he breaks down and gives them interviews. Primo is old at this point – old and a little bitter. He doesn’t give a shit about the interviews.

So, he gets exceptionally high, sits down, and decides to have some fun with them.

So yeah, sure, he’d hit a panda in the face with a brick, but he wouldn’t do it for free – like, $500 bucks would do it. And sure, hell, he’d be down for some world domination, why not? Sounds like fun. Also, yeah, you know what, his d!ck is 13 inches long, write that down, it’s important. His Ghouls sit there in silent agony while their leader rattles off whatever wild bull he happens to think of off the top of his head, and he’s having a blast watching the interviewer get more and more uncomfortable.

And then his time as frontman is over, and he gladly turns over the Mitre to his little brother and returns to a quiet life of blood sacrifices and quiet gardening.

New watch list! After the weird and off-putting poorly handled abuse analogy that was Nosferatu 2024, it’ll be nice to see some classic vampire media again.

extremely unprofessional reviews of dracula adaptations ft. my overdramatic commentary

hello and welcome to my 100% Scientific Evaluation of Various Dracula Films! my credentials are that i recently read the novel and am now firmly in the clutches of a vampire obsession, have too much free time, and never grew out of my goth phase.

ill be rating each adaptation (using a completely arbitrary and subjective 10-point scale) on how faithful it is to the book, how gothic it is in terms of aesthetics, and how much i personally liked it overall. ill also be rating - and this is crucial - how hot each film’s version of count dracula is, because im gay and i have a crush on him.

spoilers ahead.
