Today at 3PM EST on this freshly made Discord server I'll be going through Heavy's voicelines, reading them with my thickest Russian accent, talking about Russian phonetics, and answering any questions you guys might have.
DON'T MISS IT! Here's the DIscord server link again! Join, chat, tell your friends! If a decent number of people shows up, I might make it a regular thing.
about a week ago i made a post about what types of tf2 specific scams are floating around steam, how to avoid them, and how to identify a scammer. a scammer literally just added me and to a newer player/steam user, their profile could come across as legit so i'd like to go through it and pick apart some of the red flags i look for when people like this add me on steam. hopefully it'll help some people lol idk
this is the profile of the person that added me. it seems normal enough at first, they have a decent steam level and their profile is personalized with artwork and a background. they've also written a bit about their hobbies and favorite tf2 maps in their description. initially, i thought this person knew me from tf2's steam forum and added me from there, but i did some snooping around just to be safe.
here is their full description. i know this might seem pretty normal, but for me personally descriptions like this are a red flag in my mind. the first part would be fine if they had any workshop submissions or had posted their work anywhere, but they haven't so it looks more like they just added some random hobbies specific to tf2 to make them look more legit. i've also never seen anybody list their favorite maps on their profile and in combination with everything else it just seems like they're trying to come across as more knowledgeable about the game than they actually are. this isn't enough to get me to block or report somebody immediately, but it does make me raise an eyebrow at least.
next, i scroll down and i see what games they play/own. 7k hours in tf2 is mighty impressive, but there's another red flag here: these are the only games this person owns and has played, and they're both free to play. for someone who has been on steam since 2015 at the very least, you'd think they'd play more than just tf2 and csgo.
another red flag is their friends list: there's only 8 people here. again, if they've been playing tf2 since 2015 as they claim, it means they'd have been on steam since then as well and most people would have a lot of people added in that time. (i've been on steam since 2014 and have 342 people added.) i know some people only like to add close friends or people they trust, but if this person added me out of nowhere and i've never spoken to them prior.
with all this in mind their profile is extremely suspicious, so at this point i've got a good hunch that they're a scammer. let's dig a bit deeper.
private inventories are another red flag as i mentioned in my previous post about scams. you can see the trade history of some items using websites like backpack.tf, and because of this a lot of scammers will keep their inventories private to prevent people from seeing if their items were stolen from someone else. it also prevents you from seeing what they have if they're chatting to you about trading.
this is an absolute dead giveaway. despite having 7k hours in tf2, they have absolutely no playtime on any of the classes. not only that, but every single one of their achievements were unlocked on the exact same day at the exact same time, which is impossible to do unless you're using an external program. it seems like this person used the program to unlock some achievements, then idled on the menu to inflate their hours on their profile. this is also why a lot of scammers won't have their stats visible; it's to prevent you from seeing if they actually play the game or not.
so yeah after seeing all this, i was 100% sure this was a scammer. here's them proving me right by doing the "we need you to play on/vote for our team there's money involved and we'll give you items" scam.
when i'm talking to a scammer i like to pretend to be engaged in order to keep them engaged as well and waste their time a bit, and because of this there's another red flag to add to the heaps of them this guy already has: why would you add a heavy/sniper main and ask them to play soldier or scout, especially when soldier is their least played class? surely someone who is looking for teammates for a tournament where money is involved would also check the stats of the people they're supposed to be playing with.
i sent them a couple more messages and they unfriended me shortly after. i've since blocked + reported them for scamming/phishing.
When did this happen???? I JUST MADE A POST ABOUT WHAT LIKE 60 FOLLOWERS????
Thank you guys so much for the support, I swear I see it all, I try not to clutter my blog with too many posts like these though ;0;
What would you guys like to see for a 100 follower special? Let me know! I might make a google form here soon to put it to a vote if I come up with some ideas, too.

Not a request, but I just wanted to know: In your interpretation of the universe, is there an in-universe equivalent to the achievements we, as players, can get?
Thatās a great question! Iāve been eager to write about this one, but I just wasnāt sure what toĀ write,Ā especially since I feel like thereās a lot I can do with this idea.
For a lot of achievements, I assume that in universe, theyāre something of a challenge to keep things fresh during battle. Like contracts, it keeps the Administrator entertained, and also gives the mercs something worth fighting for.Ā
I would imagine achievement items are sort of likeĀ ālevel upā items, a reward for doing well on the field to test out and use on your own instead of having to make your own hodge-podge weapons. Maybe theyāre even designed by the class itself!Ā
Other achievements likely are just money rewards, little trophies, medals, and the like to encourage rivalry on the field. I mean, look! Red Heavy has a shiny badge on him! Why donāt youĀ have it Blu Heavy? Thatās right, fight for it!
I would think some of them are also newer based off of events that go on- like heavy medic achievements that werenāt there prior until medic invented the ubercharge or something. In fact, maybe it was Miss Paulingās idea to do so, and the Administrator humored her. In reality, though, she just wanted to show support for the couple.
Anyways, I might come up with more to this idea later, thereās a lot more that you could delve into- like joke trophies, Halloween or event awards, etc. etc.Ā
Thanks for the ask!
How would the mercs react if they got sick? Nothing serious, just, like, a cold or something.
Demoman:
Likely pretty honest about it. Medic spooks him at times, but he trusts the doctor to at least give him some semblance of a āgoodā idea on what to do if he gets sick.
Though before he does anything, he likely tries to work through it himself. His ma taught him how to care for himself, so he mostly just needs help setting it all up.
If he gets cold medicine, you have to have a guard on him at all times, because he can and will try to drink, even if he knows they absolutely do not mix.
Engineer:
Assures everyone heās doing fine. Being the voice of reason and the team mom, heās sure heāll work it out on his own and mostly just self-isolate until itās over.
Itās only until heās hollering encouragement to Scout on the battlefield that he breaks into a coughing fit, and things go south.
Surprisingly, Scout is the one who ends up volunteering to take care of Engineer. The whiplash it gives the rest of the team is palpable.Ā
He tries his best to make the soup that Engie always brings the others, not very well, but he makes a genuine attempt.
Eventually he has to ask for help from spy, this dude sacrifices his own ego to help someone and Medic is about ready to check if scout himself is feverish-
Each member of the team eventually gets involved to chip in and help out, and Engie gets better quicker than any of the others. Scout denies that he did anything, but the sentiment stays.
Heavy:
Like Engineer, Heavy assumes he can get away with just shrugging it off and braving through it. He has bigger worries.
Unfortunately, with Medicās constant doting, it catches on pretty quick that heās sick, and he gets the angry talk about how heās contagious and should have told the doctor.
Heavy disappears for a day to Medicās office, nobody is entirely sure what happened, but he comes back smiling and feeling better, so they donāt question it.
(Medic may or may not have just replaced his lungs entirely)
Medic:
Ludwig here knows full well that heās sick. Heās the āDo as I say, not as I doā kind of guy that advises the others to come to him when theyāre feeling unwell, and then proceeds to cough on others.
Whoās to say he doesnāt do it on purpose? He uses it to his advantage. Someone ticks him off? Cough on them, deal with the consequences later.Ā
Colds make him sleepier than usual, heāll be slumped over the main room table with a coffee and looking like death itself, then come back the next day looking spry as ever.
(He may or may not have also just replaced his lungs entirely)
Pyro:
Pyro is a drama queen when theyāre sick, because it means they get to cuddle up with their toys and the other mercs and have attention. Youād think that Scout would be the one to do this, but nope, itās Pyro.
Engie is in their room 24/7 making sure they have hot soup, plenty of things to do, puzzles to solve, the others are almost envious.
Pyro is sad when the extra attention ends, but Engineer assures them that they can visit his workshop whenever.
Scout:
Scout, on the other hand, will come to the respawn room, eyes streaming, nose stuffy, and say to your face āIām fine, shut up.ā
He doesnāt want the others to think heās weak or think less of him because he managed to get sick, so he tries to hide it from the others until it ends up worse thanks to his attempts to push it away.
Sniper is tasked with bringing him soup and medicine, and Scout refuses to take any of it unless the door is closed and nobody can see him do it. The only reason Sniper gets to even do it is because he doesnāt talk all too much and keeps secrets to himself.
Stubborn.
Sniper:
Nobody really notices heās sick since his eyes are covered in aviators and his hat shadows his face. Not to mention Snipes tends to blend in with the background, something that can be to his advantage.
Not now, because heās too shy to really ask anyone for help.
Ends up having a coughing fit and completely missing his targets one day on the field. BLU spy, who was just getting ready to backstab him is just watching like āyo wtfā
He uh, doesnāt want to get sick either, so he just creeps away and alerts the medic before he backstabs them.
Soldier:
Nobody knows how he manages it, but any time he catches a cold, heāll disappear for a day, and come back good as new.
In reality, he goes and screams at the sickness until it cowers in fear and runs away, then walks back.
Seriously, how does he do it?
Spy:
Not one to really ask for help, Spy mostly takes care of himself. Having been with Scoutās ma meant he has decent experience with caring for the sick, not to mention his constant ventures to other countries.Ā
Begrudgingly visits Medic to get some cold medicine, and ends up having to knock him out so that he wouldnāt get his lungs replaced.
Never again. Heāll just stick to laying in bed and drinking water.
