â¨Its bark can be burnt for energetic and physical purification.
â¨You can carve runes or ogham sigils on it.
â¨Its oil is excellent for love spells, and it can be used to anoint candles or diluted to wear as a magical perfume.
â¨Offerings if birch wreaths can be made to water spirits to ask that storms or excessive rain be delayed or averted.
â¨You can use birch wands to invoke Freya or Thor.

â¨It helps to invoke protection against darkness.
âď¸Sun Meditationsâď¸
This can be done right before any kind of Sun magic or working with Sun deities. Itâs also a easy way to recharge your personal energies. If youâre tired and in need of an energy boost during the day use this exercise to recharge your energy levels. Itâs also an excellent way to raise energy for any type of healing work
đIf possible, sit outside in a sunny spot where you will not be disturbed or, if itâs cold outside, stand by a window where the Sunâs light can shine on you. Sit in a comfortable position.
đ Close your eyes. Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Take 3 deep breaths in-and-out and allow your body to relax.
đTurn your hands palm up, raise them to the sky (if thatâs comfortable, just resting them on your lap, palms open, works just as well). See the Sunâs energy streaming towards you, and then draw it between your hands until you hold a fiery, golden orb of light.
đSlowly lower your hands. As you do, see the Sunâs energy filling your body. See the Sunâs energy filling your head then lower your hands to your chest and see it filling your heart in the core of your being.
đLower your hands again and see the Sunâs energy fill the lower part of your body, going down the soles of your feet. Repeat as many times as you wish.
This meditation is my favorite way to ground. The sun and earth work in harmony to bring you balance and strength.
đ If possible, sit outside in a sunny spot where you will not be disturbed or, if itâs cold outside, stand by a window where the Sunâs light can shine on you. Sit in a comfortable position.
âď¸Hold your hands palms up. See a ray of golden light shining on you. Concentrate on the light. Concentrate on emotions being felt and physical sensations. Feel or imagine its warmth on your skin.
đTake a deep breath, and as you do, see the sunlight filling you. Take 2 more deep breaths, or until you feel filled with sunlight.
âď¸Now place your hands Palm down on the ground to either side of you. Imagine reaching down through the Earth - down, down to the fiery core of the planet.
đTake a deep breath and, pulling up the fires that are at the heart of the Earth, take 2 more deep breaths until you are filled with the fires of the Earth.
âď¸Place your palms over your heart. See the golden sunlight in the fires at the core of the Earth mix and blend as they fill in circulate through your being.
âď¸Say or think:
Fires above, fires below
Within, without I am whole

I absolutely love this recipe! The bread is soft, and is perfect for sandwiches, French toast, and pretty much everything you can think of. I donât want to buy bread from the store ever again!
6 Cups all-purpose flour
2 ½ Cups very warm water
2 Tbsp. Active dry yeast
2 Tbsp. Sugar
1 tsp. Salt
1 Tbsp. Butter
Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar and let sit until the surface is foamy (If itâs doesnât foam, the yeast doesnât work).
When yeast is activated, add 3 cups of the flour, the salt, and the butter. Mix until thoroughly combined, about 2 minutes.
Once mixture is smooth, add the remaining 3 cups of flour. I recommend folding the flour in until fairly combined before kneading.
Once combined, knead dough for 6-8 minutes in a stand mixer, or 8-10 minutes by hand.
Form dough into a ball, cover with plastic wrap or a cloth, and let rise for 45 minutes.
Cut dough into 2-3 equal pieces and place into a buttered bread pan, and brush melted butter (or olive oil). Allow to rise in the loaf pans for an additional 10-15 minutes. (đ Tip: Use a small knife to make a slit longways across the bread to prevent splitting along the side of the bread.)
Bake bread in a 375°F oven for 30 minutes uncovered, and and additional 10 minutes covered in foil to prevent excess browning.
Makes 2-3 loaves of bread.
If you saw my earlier post about beginning shadow work and are looking to explore your shadow self through journaling, Iâve included some beginning prompts that can help you get started! If any of these prove difficult, I encourage you to spend some time thinking through the topic and perhaps exploring it outside of your practice.
Write a letter to someone who has hurt you.
What grudges are you holding onto?Â
Who has helped you the most in your life?
What is your biggest insecurity? Biggest strength?Â
How can you use your strengths to overcome your insecurities?
Are you an optimist or a pessimist? Why?
What is a habit you have always wanted to have?
Write about a recurring dream you have and try to analyze it.Â
What careers/hobbies/activities draw you to them? Why?Â
Write a letter to yourself 5 years ago. What would you tell yourself?
Write a letter to yourself 5 years in the future. What do you hope has changed?
Do you feel that you have a good support system?
What is something that would greatly improve your life if you had it?Â
Do you consider yourself to be a jealous person?Â
These are the prompts that helped me the most when I was beginning my shadow work. If you have more general questions about what shadow work is or why practitioners recommend it, be sure to check out my earlier post!Â
As always, leave a comment if you have a prompt or practice that has helped you with your shadow work!Â
Death
With my job I run into death often. Sometimes weâre in the same room and I donât even know it. It spares my life. It could easily touch me and I could go, but instead it takes the elderly I care for and make sure theyâre safe.
This is a place they come to die. But I do all I can for them to live. Itâs a bit bittersweet thing. I cry when they all leave. And when death is in the building I tend to look over my shoulder often. But it lets me live one more day.
Iâm no longer scared of death. Instead I welcome her and ask for her to at least be civil about it, donât let them suffer. And she agrees. These souls die in their sleep with full stomachs and and warm blankets. We hate to see them go, itâs never easy for anyone, but we continue. Reminiscing their laughter, jokes, and warm smiles.
We are the last people they usually see. Families leave their elderly and never return until the day they pass. But until then Iâm reading magazines, making puzzles, passing out meds, and making sure they stay clean. I love them all. I care for them with every inch in my soul, but I know they must go. Itâs morbid and macabre. But itâs life. I canât stop it.
Maybe this is what has brought out my spiritual side. I have this pull. When youâre in this field you just know most times when someone will pass. Itâs an emotion. You feel death. Although religion is not a priority of mine, thereâs something there. Energy. The subconscious. Itâs there.
So I embrace this side. I accept the inevitable and hope it goes fast. When I first began this job dreams of death haunted me. Dead people under my bed, me sleeping next to them, them calling for my care. Now I have listened and donât fear it. Death spares me this time, but one day it wonât. Instead of taking mrs. Barbara it may take me. And I doubt Iâll feel it coming. But as of now, Iâm okay, Iâm happy.
Death you are near me constantly and energy around me grows. Thanks, and I will see you one day. Thereâs no way for me to know but I have cared for your victims and have handed them over in the best condition I could. Give me some mercy when itâs my turn. For now I will transfer my energy to love and magic and let it consume me until the end of my times. A deal has been granted, but I shall forever live as love.
My dear, listen to me.
Your witchcraft will never be like another witch's craft.
You are a unique being, a unique person with unique life expereinces.
Your path will be different, because you are different, and that is okay.
