President Trump has cancelled the upcoming summit between the United States and the North Koreans in a new letter released on Thursday. That crow I was going to eat if the talks went all the way got a presidential pardon this morning, and just like the way this glimmer of hope for the Koreas started, a lot of people (South Korea, Japan, China, and a collection of Western reporters who were invited to an (alleged) dismantling of another test site) got caught by surprise by the abrupt cancellation.

So what did we learn today? The same thing as all the other times that the Big Dummy has declared a premature victory. Promises are just words, and you can make words sound like anything. But until the signature is on the paper, nobody’s won.
