Brent Spiner as Spock you say?
by Chris
We've gotten to "Discovery" season 2! Inspired by the appearance of Anson Mount as the Prime Timeline's Captain Pike, we decided to play one of the oldest fandom game in the book: fantasy casting! We allowed ourselves to pluck actors from across time and their careers, with the only restriction being we couldn't use any of the recastings utilized by the Kelvin Timeline films (tho actors who played original characters were fair game, as you will see). Full steam ahead to...
CAITLIN'S CAST
While she was stranded on an asteroid this week during recording, Caitlin was still able to provide us with her cast picks. As you can see she was a bit cheeky, and while she didn't use Abrams' actors she DID purloin some other Prime Universe folks for a few roles. Alongside them we have favorites from some other major sci-fi franchises, and one of TV's finest detectives. And she did confirm later that, yes, Dean Fujioka is a Japanese actor she knows from a K-Drama she enjoyed. [Kirk: Anson Mount; Spock: Brent Spiner; McCoy: Peter Falk; Scotty: David Tennant; Sulu: Dean Fujioka; Uhura: Gina Torres; Chekov: Alan Tudyk]
JAKE BRINGS US INTO THE DANNYVERSE
Jake had a spot of fun by compiling a variety of Dannies DeVito from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" to make his initial TOS cast...
BUT he also made some real picks, too, one of them another IASIP alumni alongside a variety of folks, many of whom have sci-fi backgrounds, and a positively inspired McCoy!
[Kirk: Ben Browder; Spock: Rami Malek; McCoy: Kathy Bates; Scotty: Daniel Kaluuya; Sulu: Karam Fukuhara; Uhura: Thandie Newton; Chekov: Charlie Day]
AMES' CAST
We have an overlap this time, with Ben Browder appearing as our second Kirk of the week, and he's bringing a fellow Farscape/Stargate cast member along for the ride. We've also got a Kelvin guest, quite a few comedic stars, and one of Hollywood's current biggest names!
[Kirk: Ben Browder; Spock: Claudia Black; McCoy: Shohreh Aghdashloo; Scotty: Rachel Dratch; Sulu: Zendaya; Uhura: Retta; Chekov: William Jackson Harper]
CHRIS'S CAST
Starting within things he's seen recently we're a bit all over the shop here, with possibly the most time-hopping involved to get actors from various points in their careers to make up this take on the TOS crew. But mostly he's still stung over the fact that we'll probably never get Lee Pace as a Vulcan...no, Thranduil doesn't count.
[Kirk: Kyle MacLachlan; Spock: Lee Pace; McCoy: Walton Goggins; Scotty: Billy Boyd; Sulu: Randall Park; Uhura: Pam Grier; Chekov: Matthew Rhys]
And that's it for this round! Anything particularly stand out as a good choice? Got your own ideas? Let us know! The Complete Soong Family Tree
For every time a ship went through an area of space not safe for people, making the crew go into an unconscious stasis as they go through it, leaving the chief medical officer and the emotionless catsuit wearing sex symbol character awake and in charge of the ship while the rest of the crew is under. One of them starts hallucinating and sees and hears system failures and other crewmen which are not there. The emotionless sex symbol character starts experiencing more emotions because of what they are passing through. The ship is supposed to have nearly reached the end of the area of space but hasn’t yet, so one of them has to engineer a way to increase the ship’s speed and safely exit the area while the other is unable to actually help with that.

Just thinking about how, if Kes stayed onboard Harry would have been Tom’s son in law for the rest of the series
