A little nature once in a while To break the trend of Love and other inward feelings
Show me a canyon Not that one, not the grand one Show me a regular canyon With water still flowing through
Show me the red of its walls Like a prehistoric mural Of erosion and persistence
Nature moves on, you know This earth shrugs us off We destroy it and it destroys us Nature breaks us all down
An ember in my hand Is a small and safe delight It burns of course Palm scarred for life Leave your imprint on me, fire
But place it in the earth And it will tear its way through Scorch the ground and then The trees until there's nothing Left but a smoldering oblivion
As a lover of fire As someone made of flames For this destruction I have only this tearful apology Lost in the blackest smoke
November was made for The dying, Vanity finally blown Away, exposing the Forests and meadows, Stripping them Down to their stems With no pretty little Leaf to entice anyone
Only the colder winds Shake these branches, The snapping Sticks laying helpless As they are crushed Under boots, breaking Beneath abandonment, The smell of their Decay a kind of comfort
There's a comfort in our conversations A hint of longing in our voices Do we pretend not to notice? We live our lives We make choices
You are the deepest blue I am the lightest of green Together we form the trees and sky We are the earth The calming scene
We walk on roads that are parallel Kicking the dirt up off the ground I carry with me our white flag Through the dust We make no sound
I think I finally understand The rose's thorns I too want to be loved Without being touched
So I am no romantic flower I embody the stem I want to be ideal And practically unattainable
A man came out to pick The field of daisies The flowers so densely woven Entwined in each other That the ripping was Unbearable as they were Separated and potted Side by side in the window Their time together quick Their longing an eternity
I'll be Venus You be Mars Let's be planets Then be stars Let's be ever Changing colors In a galaxy That's ours If you are darkness I'll be light The day is Always kissing Night We'll become one In the dawn Our heavy bodies Will be gone
We speak in tongues The wicked we Me and my anxieties
Losing peace And lost to sleep No sleep tonight for me
My words are jumbled Mumbled sounds Can you find them In the lost and found?
Insane is pain In painful times These chains aren't yours But mine
Close your eyes, I'm in the corner of your mind, The corner you see in your Peripheral vision but hardly look at. I'm in the shadows with a match, The flame that crackles and sizzles And sparks, burning lower Until the tiny coals go out Between my finger tips. I'm the light that shines When you can't always see.
Close your arms, I'm the warm, solid Scarred and healed Body that fits between your limbs Like the smallest Of the nesting dolls. I'm the familiar smell of Sweat and sage, unwashed And a little greasy, I'm the familiar sensation you can feel In bed when you lay awake at night, The last breath before sleep.
Don't close your heart, We've both been hurt, Dragged across the street And unknowingly scratched up By one another. I am your inner child's teddy bear, The one that's missing an eye With a bit of stuffing coming out. We are the animals we keep on pillows When we are old When we are bit more gentle, When we have the thread To sew up the torn parts. When we don't need to be Perfect anymore.
The little spider Under my table Strung up a pebble To anchor its web And I am as curious As I am impressed By this mysterious Feat of engineering
The house spider in my window Is resting for the winter It is her second year here She might not make it to spring She is thin and fragile now I will watch to see if she revives From her gentle hibernation What an impact she has had on me No creature is undeserving of love And I have had so much to give
