An artist can insert light into the world Reach into their own acid stomach Pulling out their intestines Shining, glowing, posing as hope Let me make it so Let me take my own guts in my hands Twist them and turn them Into a blue and red balloon animal Give it to our tired country The rotten thing does not fester Inside me today. Can I do it? I want to take pieces of myself That have atrophied and heal them Turn them into something resembling art
As the sun rises out Of the early morning sky I shelter my eyes as It winks at me And I am warmed By the secret between us Of how days are made
Shine brightly, my sun Or are you shy today? Linger behind The safety of a cloud And if you are sad I won't look for you In your escape into rain
When I have swam too far And been lost in my emotion You have been the lighthouse That brought me out of the ocean
When I have flown too high Out of the atmosphere You have brought me back to earth And made me long to be here
I have never ran too far Or trekked alone in the snow The idea that I might miss you Has kept me safe you know
And when I have been too quiet When darkness filled my sky The image of your smiling face Has kept my guarded heart alive
A man came out to pick The field of daisies The flowers so densely woven Entwined in each other That the ripping was Unbearable as they were Separated and potted Side by side in the window Their time together quick Their longing an eternity
It's in the way you tuck your hair Behind your ear In the way you speak your words Soft and clear In how you make yourself feel close Like you are here The way you navigate the world And hold your fears
It's in the way you tilt your head In photographs The way you light up when you're glad Your sneaky laugh It's how you say what's in your heart And don't hold back How you are strong and hold your own But don't attack
It's in the way your forge your path No compromise When you let me walk with you I get butterflies I love to see which way you go Every surprise Love is in the way you dream Watching the skies
Love is how you've looked at me With kindest eyes Love is when you hold my hand And don't patronize How you've been vulnerable with me Not afraid to cry It's how we let each other breathe Without cutting ties
They say no man is an island So I am no man I am merely made of sand In an unknown ocean I am just a bit of land
Anyone can visit me As long as they don't stay Or they would be deserted too So after a couple of days I would have them washed away
On my island there would be a tree My only bit of company I am happy to be alone With the salty breeze Over the island that is me
There are cracks In the pavement Outside my window Where trees have Stretched out their Roots, like the Asphalt is simply A weighted blanket
When the garbage Trucks bounce and Thunk over those Bumps in the road I can almost hear The trees laughing
She used to look out the window With eyes darting around Like the fluttering of birds Was the greatest joy she found And marvel at the rustling leaves Chirping and chittering sounds Enthralled by creatures great and Small that roam upon the ground
Hardly would she ever venture Out into that very wild land So safe behind that pane of glass So safe to let her world expand Sometimes we would sit by the door Glory under that sun so grand She lived a quietly sheltered life It was a choice I understand
November was made for The dying, Vanity finally blown Away, exposing the Forests and meadows, Stripping them Down to their stems With no pretty little Leaf to entice anyone
Only the colder winds Shake these branches, The snapping Sticks laying helpless As they are crushed Under boots, breaking Beneath abandonment, The smell of their Decay a kind of comfort
