Fixing 2012 Apritello

I got inspired by @sophfandoms53 posts that you can check out here (It’s an amazing short analysis, I suggest you read it cause what they said was so true about the 2012 series) It inspired me to quickly write this.

In their post they talked about how April and Donnie’s romance was handled poorly with the Love at First Sight Trope, how they could handled it similarly to April and Donnie’s friendship in the 2003 series with how they became friends through their love of science, which I highly agree with!

If you’ve been following me, you know I think 2012 Apritello is very flawed. I’ve complained about it many times and how certain moments were cringe and could’ve been fixed. (Like that Farm House kiss, wtf was that pointless crap?). But I saw Soph’s post and it made me realize how this mess of ship could’ve been fixed and could’ve been so much better.

Have Donnie and April have no romantic feelings for each other in the beginning (meaning Donnie doesn’t fall in love with April in the first episode) and instead have it build up over time, they become friends through having similar interests and slowly it turns their friendship into a romantic connection. Best Friends to Lovers Trope done right!

If Donnie would stop looking so lost at every given second, I might have an easier time studying the other characters, but as it is, I can’t stop looking at him because this boy looks like an infant experiencing the world for the first time or a creature who lost all his brain cells to the void. Background Donnie has not a thought behind his eyes.

It’s also the exact face that he makes when he’s the main character in season three, but his brain cells are all decomposing at once.

April's a spunky gal [inspired by rise april :>]. She can be stubborn at times and only Donnie can talk her out of it. Once they became friends, they tend to stand or sit close to each other.

It took awhile for Donnie to realize that he has a crush on April since it's the very first time he ever felt that way for someone.

April on the other hand was oblivious to it. She only knew about it when Mikey accidentally slipped it up in one of their convo. She never mentioned about the whole thing to Donnie as to not scare him off and just waited until Dee's ready to tell her about it.

They're very supportive of each other. Donnie helps her with her schoolworks while April helps him with his socializing skills and getting the stuff he needs for his projects.

The only TMNT ship that matters tbh
