oh goodness
thinking about how easily treech could have ended up like haymitch... winning the games and then self-isolating/maybe drinking as a coping mechanism. lamina is obviously his personal ghost/version of maysilee and he has to live with the guilt about how his abandonment might as well have caused her death. then years later after watching several of his tributes die despite him actually trying to help them, along comes this feisty mean sarcastic brunette girl who clearly has this vicious spark in her - basically the katniss to his haymitch, but then here she is this sobbing little girl who turns out to be talented with an axe and now johanna is also another painful reminder of lamina as well.

What’s hilarious but also kinda sad is scrolling through the secret history tag and seeing all the aesthetic moodboards and all that because the literal point of the book was warning against that.
Richard literally said his fatal flaw was ‘a morbid longing for the picturesque at all costs’.
The whole point of the book (well, one of them) is to tell you about the dangers of ignoring things right in front of your eyes and instead only focusing on the ‘picturesque’, on the side that fits with the aesthetic you’ve assigned to certain people, or situations, or books, and not seeing the larger picture.
And this is exactly what people are doing to the book (not that i don’t love the moodboards), focusing on the aesthetic and vibes of it rather than the underlying messages and the events that occur, ignoring the warning signs because they ruin the way you see things.
Peeta truly matched Katniss’s freak by being one of the snarkiest character in the books. At least she has the excuse of the reader being in her head half the time, these are the things the boy is actually saying out loud. Nobody notices this because he surrounds all these comments with hugs and smiles towards Katniss.
Peeta unexpectedly laughs. “He was drunk,” says Peeta. “He’s drunk every year.”
“That’s very funny,” says Peeta. Suddenly he lashes out at the glass in Haymitch’s hand. It shatters on the floor, sending the bloodred liquid running toward the back of the train. “Only not to us.”
“Don’t be so superior. You can never tell what you’ll find in the arena. Say it’s actually a gigantic cake —” begins Peeta.
“Doesn’t matter,” he shrugs. “Although it’s technically illegal.”
Peeta smiles at me, sad and mocking. “Okay. Thanks for the tip, sweetheart.”
“Wouldn’t surprise me if you do,” says Peeta. “Give my mother my best when you make it back, will you?”
“For what? Nothing’s going on here,” he says. “Besides I like watching you sleep. You don’t scowl. Improves your looks a lot.”
“Yes, of course I was referring to that, not the lasting joy you gave the sister you love so much you took her place in the reaping,” says Peeta drily.
“And don’t try. Obviously I’m too dim to get it,” he says.
“Katniss, I live three houses away from you,” he says.
