Do you think Clark Kent's first few major articles were about the continued presence of lead pipes in parts of Metropolis' water system
Every time Sean Astin makes a statement on whether or not Sam and Frodo were indeed gay for each other in lord of the rings he’s always like “well we have to acknowledge that attitudes around sexuality have changed dramatically over the past several decades and since authorial intent is only up to speculation, the story is open to multiple readings, some of which might have different significances for different groups of people also they kiss on the lips because I said so”
i strongly believe that in any universe modern or otherwise lwj uses lan xichen as a kind of confessional like a catholic priest. he literally comes into lan xichen's room at four pm precisely because that's the scheduled time that he allows himself to share an Emotion with his brother and sits down and says in a distinctly monotone yet perfectly recognisably anguished tone 'brother i have sinned' and lan xichen sighs very quietly because he doesn't want to hurt his brother's feelings and puts down his pen and says 'is this about wei wuxian' very gently and Lan Wangji is like 'mn' because it has never once Not been about wei wuxian. and then he says something that is Kind Of Weird, But Still Not A Sin like 'he fell asleep when we were studying and i watched his ribcage moving up and down for thirty eight minutes until he choked on nothing and woke himself up; am i evil' and once again lan xichen will kind of not-sigh in a way that makes it very obvious that in all other ways except physical he Is, Indeed, Sighing and has to reassure the most rigidly distraught younger brother in the history of mankind that what he is suffering from is in fact a malady known colloquially as a crush
I just watched some chaotic moments from The Great British Bake Off and I desperately, desperately want a cooking competition AU where Bruce is just this little agent of adorable chaos
It still takes place during the pandemic, so the contestants must bake from their own kitchens. If course, formalities aside, this is national television and people still want to look their best.
Bruce? He shows up in his fancy little robe with a Nirvana shirt under, hair a bird's nest from taking a clinical nap, but somehow still fluffy, some smudged eyeliner still drying under his eyes. The very definition of a hot mess.
Alfred is clearly seen face-palming behind him and Bruce is very oblivious to it. He's just fighting for his life trying to smear frosting on his little cupcakes.
The cupcakes are literally melting in his hands and he's like " That's good enough, isn't it?"
" No, you fuckin' muppet--"
" Mr. Pennyworth, no swearing please"
" Oh I'm sorry. What's next, forbid me from breathing?"
Bruce is such a spoiled brat and everyone has such a good time watching him pout at Alfred to do the work for him. Sometimes the judges just fail him to watch him pout and throw a little tantrum
Of course, little Dick Grayson is there to help (read: Make things harder for Bruce) as much as he can.
Which includes napping on his dad's shoulder, occasionally waking up when Bruce needs a taste tester. Bruce makes the news all because his little sweetheart eating cake from his hand half asleep
Bruce and Alfred have a bigger challenge; Trying to hide Batman.
[Bat screeching from the cave]
Bruce, looking straight to the camera: Ignore that
this is dean winchester canonically in a therapy session like this is literally how he acts in canon in therapy i cannot stress enough that this caption is not out of context he’s literally in therapy in this scene
former mean girl steve who’s actually still mean, just not with his kids and family is like, so compelling, oh my god.
season one!steve as a mean girl? casually callous but largely apathetic because he never got any kick out of kicking people that were already down. he saw how his parents acted, how tommy and carol acted, and knew, intrinsically, what to say and what to do to cut down anyone. to be a total cutthroat bitch. he just never did because he felt uncomfortable doing so and never looked too closely at why.
but then jonathan punched his sense into him and he realized he didn’t want to be such an asshole that he’d be hated undoubtedly.
it takes a while to admit but steve did actually want to be an asshole, he’s a bit cruel that way. just not to people like the byers and the hendersons. he loved those people, wanted to protect them, so he’s soft for them.
the rest of hawkins tho? especially the upper echelons? they just gotta deal with an especially brutal harrington kid who made it his mission to make people’s life hell if they looked at his kids wrong. he’s king steve to them, and babysitter steve to the party.
steddie addition: eddie who only ever got to see king steve and thus concluded he’s bad news, rightfully so because steve is a bit leery with anyone who’s close to his kids. but then vecna happened and steve decided eddie is now one of his, and oh boy. the soft (and aggressively caring) side of a mean girl? it’s a critical hit to eddie.
anti-hero Steve but his superpowers are making people feel bad
but also the idea that s1 Steve wanted to be an asshole but held back because he doesn't like punching down? iconic, genius. as soon as he's knocked down the social ladder, the bitchiness goes flying out. and he didn't talk to a lot of people outside of his little circle so people assume that he must have always been an asshole. but no, plot twist; that's a new development.
mike is naturally snarky. like that's indisputable. he's a playful little jerk who pours syrup on his sister's plate after she calls his food choices gross and makes hopper's life a living hell for fun. he's a little shit, that's just a fact
but this is what he looks like when he's being annoying on purpose as a way to show affection
the general consensus whenever he starts shit seems to be "well, that's just mike", but no, it's not. it's really not. he rarely looks like this.
the thing with will's campaign was close, because he seemed to be goofing around with lucas as much as anything else, but it was still just... off
either will's being particularly testy, or mike doesn't usually act like this with him, or both. either way, the explosive reaction took him off guard. his playfulness is still present in that dynamic, it just looks different than the usual kind that can easily be misconstrued as being genuinely mean or disrespectful if you look at it in bad faith
side note: it's gotta suck that whenever he stops being so freaking serious for 2 minutes and actually acts his age he's regularly met with hostility and yelling and people storming off
throughout the show, we don't see mike like this a lot or for very long. we see him being genuinely abrasive. that's not personality, it's trauma
“You won’t stick around too long, sweetheart. Not when you find out what he’s really like. Everyone leaves him in the end.” LOCKWOOD & CO. | 1.02
the concept and idea of “you can always start trying to be a better person” is extremely important to me both in media and irl and i continue to be deeply deeply disturbed by the trend on this site pushing that these ideas in media are bad writing or even morally reprehensible
because theyd rather someone stay terrible or just straight up die than become a better person
from a compassionate point of view it’s deeply distressing and from a pragmatic point of view it’s outright frustrating
it’s fucked up.
i think about this one so fucking often i had to clip it
I’m a pacifist like institutionally but I’m absolutely certain that violence solves at least some problems on a much smaller level. I don’t believe in wars or nuclear weapons or military campaigns I do believe in the power of that guy who punched the nazi in the face so hard his entire media presence immediately crumbled to dust
