That actually makes sense... but as you already pointed out in the tags, Saracen would still have been able to see Viles armour inside Skug´s ribcage. I think he said using his magic with clothes makes everything squishy or something like that, so he probably just didn´t recognize it for what it was.
In Seasons of War, it was revealed that Saracen’s magic allows him to see through layers. There’s been a lot of discussion since, wondering why Saracen didn’t realise that Skulduggery was Vile, and whether it’s a continuity error.
If Saracen can see through layers, why couldn’t he see through Vile’s armour? Why doesn’t he know who Vile is? Why didn’t he know straight away?
But there’s a reason given for why Saracen might not know about Vile.

Okay, but can we all just appreciate how fluffy and soft Sanguine looks even though he´s drawn in red and black only?

"You know I have a bad habit of being attracted to redheads who are mean to me..." - Tony Stark, A.X.E.: Avengers
Honestly in hindsight skulduggery making Val think he was going to sacrifice himself at the end of phase one was like....man what the fuck. Imagine traumatising ur friend for a laff what a lad.
During the 2008 recession, my aunt lost her job. Her, her partner, and my three cousins moved across the country to stay with us while they got back on their feet. My house turned from a family of four to a family of nine overnight, complete with three dogs and five cats between us.
It took a few years for them to get a place of their own, but after a few rentals and apartments, they now own a split level ranch in a town nearby. I’ve lost track of how many coworkers and friends have stayed with them when they were in a tight spot. A mother and son getting out of an abusive relationship, a divorcee trying to stay local for his kids while they work out a custody agreement, you name it. My aunt and uncle knew first hand what that kindness meant, and always find space for someone who needed it, the way my parents had for them.
That same aunt and uncle visited me in [redacted] city last year. They are prolific drinkers, so we spent most of the day bar hopping. As we wandered the city, any time we passed a homeless person, my uncle would pull out a fresh cigarette and ask them if they had a light. Regardless of if they had a lighter on hand or not, he offered them a few bucks in exchange, which he explained to me after was because he felt it would be easier for them to accept in exchange for a service, no matter how small.
I work for a company that produces a lot of fabric waste. Every few weeks, I bring two big black trash bags full of discarded material over to a woman who works down the hall. She distributes them to local churches, quilting clubs, and teachers who can use them for crafts. She’s currently in the process of working with our building to set up a recycling program for the smaller pieces of fabric that are harder to find use for.
One of my best friends gives monthly donations to four or five local organizations. She’s fortunate enough to have a tech job that gives her a good salary, and she knows that a recurring donation is more valuable to a non-profit because they can rely on that money month after month, and can plan ways to stretch that dollar for maximum impact. One of those organizations is a native plant trust, and once she’s out of her apartment complex and in a home with a yard, she has plans to convert it into a haven of local flora.
My partner works for a company that is working to help regulate crypto and hold the current bad actors in the space accountable for their actions. We unfortunately live in a time where technology develops far too fast for bureaucracy to keep up with, but just because people use a technology for ill gain doesn’t mean the technology itself is bad. The blockchain is something that she finds fascinating and powerful, and she is using her degree and her expertise to turn it into a tool for good.
I knew someone who always had a bag of treats in their purse, on the odd chance they came across a stray cat or dog, they had something to offer them.
I follow artists who post about every local election they know of, because they know their platform gives them more reach than the average person, and that they can leverage that platform to encourage people to vote in elections that get less attention, but in many ways have more impact on the direction our country is going to go.
All of this to say, there’s more than one way to do good in the world. Social media leads us to believe that the loudest, the most vocal, the most prolific poster is the most virtuous, but they are only a piece of the puzzle. (And if virtue for virtues sake is your end goal, you’ve already lost, but that’s a different post). Community is built of people leveraging their privileges to help those without them. We need people doing all of those things and more, because no individual can or should do all of it. You would be stretched too thin, your efforts valiant, but less effective in your ambition.
None of this is to encourage inaction. Identify your unique strengths, skills, and privileges, and put them to use. Determine what causes are important to you, and commit to doing what you can to help them. Collective action is how change is made, but don’t forget that we need diversity in actions taken.
“I’m not a villain. You shouldn’t have treated me like one.”
i’ve been wanting to do this for a long time, but it’s been rotting in my drafts box for ages and i just remembered
i’ve been thinking about it, and i think magic could possibly prevent sorcerers from getting cancer. possibly.
my reasoning, you ask? of course, cells would die more slowly, but it’s unrealistic to think that skin, blood and hair cells etc would do so, because then all sorcerers would be bald and skinless (that said, slower brain cell turnover might explain a few things).
so if these cells are renewing themselves a regular amount for centuries, it stands to reason that every sorcerer would get some form of cancer at some point due to the increased chance of cell mutations and therefore cancer. this is never discussed, so we can either assume that a) they are immune, or b) they’ve found a cure
i think that if they had found a cure, somebody like kenspeckle grouse would have leaked it to mortals for the greater good, but since that’s also never discussed, we can (again) assume that that’s not the case and consider that sorcerers are (possibly) immune to cancer
“Am I in love? Absolutely. I’m in love with ancient philosophers, foreign painters, classic authors, and musicians who have died long ago. I’m a passionate lover. I fawn over these people. I have given them my heart and my soul. The trouble is, I’m unable to love anyone tangible. I have sacrificed a physical bond, for a metaphysical relationship. I am the ultimate idealistic lover.”

Skulduggery headcanons that I love and need to share
- Dexter giving Valkyrie piggie back rides, when Sulduggery doesn’t oblige to do it - “DExter, you undermine my auThorITY!” - “What authority?” - Tanith and Dexter are punch line people who sit in the back and high five each other whenever they say one - Ghastly once got super drunk because of the whole Tanith situation and Skulduggery accompanied him, listened to his sorrow and afterwards drove him home and tugged him in. He’s a friend like that. - Dexter Vex is ticklish af - Valkyrie first sees him get tickled by Saracen and she finds it adorable especially bc Dexter is like the most flawless looking guy on the team - Skulduggery actually adores hugging and cuddling Valkyrie, but he is self conscious bc of his bones - China and Saracen are the only ones who have absolutely no doubts about Dexter’s sexuality - Everyone else keeps wondering - “He never tells us anything!” “Well, maybe, he doesn’t want to!” “Ghastly, that’s not the point! We’re his friends.” “What if he has a thing for… monsters.. and aliens?” - Saracen laughing nervously in the back after he’d just spent night #120053 with Dexter - China remembering that moment she’d realized Dexter was like the only person in existence who doesn’t crush on her in the slightest bit and sighing - on Dexter’s and Saracen’s wedding Dexter slowdances with Tanith and she cries bc for some reason it reminds her of Ghastly and of all she was robbed of - Skulduggery and Valkyrie watching crappy TV and Skulduggery tugging her in afterwards when she fell asleep - Ghastly gives the best hugs and Valkyrie keeps stealing them, especially when a mission took an extra toll on her - “Val, I’m a very respectful member of the Elders…” “I respect and cuddle you!” - He can’t help loving it even tho he keeps making a show of how big of an exception this is it’s not - Dexter gets tired when drunk, Ghastly gets mad, Saracen gets funny and Valkyrie causes riots - we don’t talk about tanith, she rarely drinks for good reasons - Saracen is basically Valkyrie’s mom when Melissa isn’t around - “have you had any breakfast yet?” “are you alright?” “should we call a doctor?” “write me a message when you got home safely.” skulduggery: “I’m literally driving her to the front door!!!” Saracen: “I’m painfully aware!!” - tanith and saracen have this amazing vibe that only people who used to have a thing going on but mutually decided it doesn’t work out have: they wear sunglasses and judge others and it only takes one meaningful look for them to communicate - it drives Dexter crazy - “What are you guys telling each other???”
I feel called out by your post about Tanith because I have a big family and the first thing I do when I encounter my assortment of people in the ~12 age range is compliment their collection of injuries and battle scars. Also lowkey the best insight into Dexter is the little musings about his history and the small displays of restraint and mercy he demonstrates while possessed by the Remnant. Which is still out there somewhere. Just so you know. Darquesse let it go and it could be anywhere now.
Well, there's a difference between having a scraped knee from playing (or other stuff normal kids do) and having huge ass bruises, because you had to jump from a rooftop in order to escape from a vampire...
Yess, Dexter is one of my favorite characters. Compared to Tanith he wasn't as cruel while being possessed, but I think that had a lot to do with the Remnant. Still, he left Val to die when Samuel attacked and he kidnapped Alice. The only mercy he showed was not killing her.
You mean the remnant is still out somewhere? I'm not sure, but I think Darquesse killed it after ripping it out of Dex.
