DING! DING!
Went the door bell but once she swung the door open, I was met with rejection and rejection and another rejection.
It's not like Lucy's plain out rude to me by saying things like 'shoo!!' or 'you're a real jerk Schroeder' but instead it's more like, 'I'm too busy with mom' or 'I have to give a speech to women in europe'.
I highly doubt the second one which led me to the conclusion of her feeling down about the contest four days ago.
Surprisingly we won. Not because we were so good that we deserved it but one of the main judges cried because she also had curly hair and was extremely proud of it.
She gave us a 100.
Lucy's probably moping her lose since everyone knows just how much she worked hard for it, even going as far as singing in class during recitations.
I might know the reason for our win but she doesn't know that, all she probably heard was the applause and the fact that our win proved I was right when we fought last time (which I wasn't).
I don't want her to think that her interests and passions are nonsensical because that's not true at all, I was being dumb. I'm the dumb one!

"How adorable!" The saleslady squealed.
I borrowed money from dad to buy flowers for Lucy and he happily agreed with the cost of helping mom with groceries later on.
Sacrificing my freedom to pick the perfect bouquet for Lucy.
"What do girls like the most?" I asked the lady.
"It depends on what kind of girl the one you like is" she answered.
I began to think about what kind of girl Lucy is and what flowers she would be interested in before the lady chimed in on my train of thought.
"If she's a simple or elegant girl then tulips are for her" she said, "but if she's cheerful, sunflowers will do the trick!"
'She's very passionate about her flowers' I thought. I mean, how do you even know that much about flowers? How do you even know tulips are for simple girls!?
I continued to walk around and soon my eyes would land on a bouquet of roses.
"What do roses mean?" I asked.
"Ah, yes! The classic symbol of love!" She chirped, "most boys give red roses to proclaim there love, appreciation, or regret" she added.
"Is that so?"
"Yes! Do they speak to you?"
I stared at it for a few seconds, weirdly they do. Plus, with the new information I've learned that they're for appreciation...
"Do you think she'll know?" I asked the lady.
She grinned, "oh ofcourse, roses never fail!"
I ended up buying the roses but I didn't have enough money to buy a bouquet so the lady ended up making me a small one, isn't as big but enough for Lucy to know what I meant.
I left the flower shop satisfied and smarter than before.

Words have meaning, even when you don't fully mean it, once you said it, it can have a huge impact on someone. Wether Positive or negative, it's what I simply know.
I've said some things to Lucy, half out of annoyance, friendship, care, and hatred...to which I thought it was.
I stood once again on the doorstep of her home and by the fourth ring, her mom answered, Mrs. Van Pelt.
She opened the door and was pleasantly surprised by the little roses I have in my hand.
"What is this Schroeder?" She asked.
I gulped faintly, "this is for Lucy, I'm here to tell her that I'm sorry".
"Oh?" Her mom perked up, "what for?"
"For..." The moment I try to let my words out, i fumbled.
I took a deep breath, "for all the things I've done and said.."
"I've been pushing your daughter away, one of my dearest friends because I thought that a musicians success is measured by how much he can accomplish alone" I start.
"I thought she was a distraction...she kinda is── but she is the kind of distraction I want to have. I've disregarded everything she had helped me accomplished and pushed her away without thinking" I said.
"So here I am, with two roses in my hand...standing Infront of your doorstep to say that I'm sorry to your daughter.... Lucy's an amazing girl and a great friend despite her snarkiness, I'm sorry for treating her badly".
I've apologized and confessed my precise thoughts with no lies, her mom had her hand placed where her heart is.
"That's very sweet of you Schroeder, I did think something was wrong when she stopped going outside in the afternoon..." Mrs. Van Pelt smiled, almost in relief to understand her daughter's problem now.
She looked to her left, eyeing something or someone before turning back to me, "it's best if you give Lucy some space for now, I know you want to see her but she needs your patience".
"Oh...okay, can you atleast give these to her" handing the skinny bouquet of two roses.
Mrs. Van Pelt accepted them, "I sure will, Schroeder".
The door closed and I'm left on my own once again. I walked off but turned back one last time, that's when I saw her through the window.
I raised my hand to wave hello but she ducked and hid.

After my last attempt of letting Lucy know that I'm sorry, I gave her space.
No matter how long, I hope she knows my door is always open for her to come in but knowing her, she'd barge in uninvited.
It was 4 pm, the sky was growing darker by the second and I've got nothing much else to do so I sat down the floor, playing the usual Beethoven piece when I heard faint footsteps and my door creaking.
I didn't look up, it could be my mom coming to check up on my laundry basket but this person wasn't my mom because this person leaned on my piano and only one person can lean on my piano perfectly.
I took a quick glance at lucy, the back of her curly hair facing me. I didn't know what she's thinking about but I kept playing anyway.
Once I hit the last few notes, I switched to the notes of another song she knows all too well.
It's like she caught the memo when her head raised up a bit.
'My funny valentine by Ella Fitzgerald '
She began to hum, humming until humming turns to her singing along.
"Schroeder." She spoke, the voice that haven't been directed to me for a while, "I didn't think you were capable of playing such a song".
"It's not your thing.." she added.
I nod and say, "You did very well with your performance with Franklin".
She shook her head lightly, "ofcourse I did!! congrats on your win".
She didn't say but I noticed her answer was laced with one-sided joy.
"We won because one of the judges had curly hair like Frieda" I told her, "but even if you did win, I'll still play your favourite songs for you".
Her head began to turn, "really?"
"You were amazing"
How pretty, she's finally facing me with that smile on her face!!
"Thank you for the roses by the way, they're very pretty" she spoke again, happier now.
"I'm glad you liked it, I picked them out for you" I smiled, a little excited at the praise. "Did you get what they meant?.."
She sighed dramatically, "it means I have no choice but to accept your proposal".
"Proposal?.."
She looks at me as if in disbelief, "why yes Schroeder!" Then she adds, "you can't expect a lady to receive roses and not seal the deal!"
"I don't marry koalas" I retort.
"I'm not a koala! Stop calling me that!" Lucy said back.
And just like that, we were arguing again over silly things. Just like before but this time it's different, I care and appreciate more.
She makes me smile with my heart, no one's like her, my favourite work of art.
"So, are we friends again?" I asked.
She stared at me sweetly and smiled, "yes, yes we are".
With everything that happened this past couple of weeks. I've changed and I've learned a lot.
I gave her a kiss on the cheek after that to which she was disgusted by as she assumed snoopy of kissing her cheek instead.
"Ewww!!! Ewwww!! Oh, snoopy!!!" She whined, wiping her cheek.
I tried to tell her that it was me but she ran off.
Though, I did come to terms with one thing and that It's not so bad to be loved by Lucy Van Pelt.

Schroeder
Today was the beginning of the rest of my life. I walked around like a tiger, I high fived and greeted at least half of the school population. I don't even know them all!!
I walked with a skip on my steps, I was full on buzzing!! And you might be weirded out because last time, I was for sure struggling.
Did I accept my predicament? What happened?
Well, let's just say, Lucy's upset with me. Like really real upset.
But it wasn't easy at all when I arrived at our next class. I see her and she wasn't even looking at me. Like she decided to forget I even existed.
"It's not too late to call it off and just apologize Schroeder.." Charlie Brown whispered but I brushed it off with, "I won't call it off".
I know Charlie and the others are disapproving but aren't they supposed to be happy? Lucy has been hurtful too. When she speaks up too much of her mind, when she always gets what she wants, why are they so against it for?
I would glance at Lucy from time to time but when she occasionally catches my glances, she frowns and whips her head away.
I'm not completely heartless, I feel guilty too.
But, I shouldn't be feeling this way! Lucy will get over it and me, understanding that I'm actually right, we're meant to be apart.
So. Yeah, congrats to me.

📀 EARLIER
Our teacher spoke through the speaker, announcing to everyone that a school event will be held. A contest, but the jist is, it'll be in groups of two, it's gonna be a part of our final project.
Everybody began to scramble and choose their partners. As usual, Lucy came running to me with a big smile on her face.
With my many failures of pushing her away, I was already fed up and tired to even tolerate Lucy so I burst.
"NO! I DON'T WANT TO BE PARTNERS WITH YOU!" I shouted.
Everybody grew quiet and stopped to look at us, I suddenly felt nervous and saw the look of surprise on Lucy's face.
What should I do?
My hands turning into a fist on my sides, not looking her in the eyes. "I wasn't doing all of that yesterday because I like being close to you, it's the opposite".
"What? What's wrong Schroeder? That's not true" Lucy said, startled.
"Just like that, you never listen to me and always follow whatever makes you happy!"
I could see Lucy's face contorting into a defensive frown, "that's not true".
"It is!! You always want to do things your way!! Bossing me around and your sarcastic remarks when it came to my ideas!!" I was frustrated.
"That's not true at all!!" Lucy was now yelling back as well.
"It is!"
"Fine then! If you don't want to be partners, go find someone else to fill my spot!!" She shouted back.
Lucy began to walk and look around our classmates, grabbing Franklin by the hand and leading him with her, "he will be my partner!!".
I groaned and began to look around as well, Charlie and my other friends were already taken, I don't want to humiliate myself like this Infront of everyone.
Until, Frieda steps out.
"I don't have a partner yet Schroeder" her voice is soft-spoken, "I can be your partner".
Then I thought about it, maybe she'll be a great partner, she does seem responsible or perhaps she has a hidden talent. A harp player? Lyre? Piano? So I agreed.
"Yes! Yes you can!" I decided.
I turned back to Lucy and she was staring intensely at me, her eyebrows furrowed, it almost scared me.
"Hmph!" Before turning away with Franklin.
The room shifted awkwardly before it came back to its normal atmosphere.

📀 PRESENT
"yo Schroeder!" A kid waved at me, one of the ones I high fived earlier.
"hey!!" I smiled, pretending to remember him before going to my desk.
I was packing my things when Frieda came up to me once more, "thrilled to be joining you in this contest Schroeder! I was told you were the best pianist around here".
I think it's more like, I'm the only one. "Thank you, I'm thrilled too".
Frieda smiled and nodded, "yes, ofcourse you are, you do have the girl with naturally curly hair as your partner!"

Oh boy.
