Oh shit! Is this what this is?! I didn’t know this was even a thing! I’ve just, like, always been told I’m just super lazy. I’ve tried to explain to my parents but . . . Yeah we are really boring and awkward here. We’re just like, “hey, nice to meet you let me give you a weird smile and move my hand from side to side for a second before running away and hoping I never see you again.” Plus it’s even worse when it’s boys because they’re like, “nope, can’t possibly touch this guy longer than a second or else it’s gay.” Honestly I wish we did the whole kiss on the cheek thing, I’m a very affectionate person.

I’m hoping to address all these and likewise questions in this guide on describing POCs’ skin color, from light, dark and all that’s in between.

So exactly what is the problem with comparing a POC’s skin tone to cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar and other sweets and goods? Well, there’s several potential problems you come across when you pull out the old Hershey’s bar comparison for your dark-skinned character, even if offense is not your intention.
