(copy-pasted from a message, so it’s maybe a little disjointed. apologies)
it’s That Scene™ from Electroma. Thomas’ gone—but Guy-Man played a role in it. So, that = they’re done as a band, but it was a mutual (and maybe difficult) decision, one made among *friends*. that’s why it had to be Thomas’ death specifically—Guy-Man’s death was solo; Thomas’ was collaborative. then, we get Guy-Man walking away to “Touch”. as @madlyfluffy pointed out, something important happens (or, rather, doesn’t)—Guy-Man doesn’t die. to me, this choice indicates that while DP may be no more, that doesn’t mean *Thomas and Guy-Man* are done—as friends, as a collaborative unit, whatever.
and it’s *vital* to note how “Touch” was used. the video doesn’t end with Paul William’s devastating final verse. it’s a new mix (!!!), repeating the chorus to the end. love never ends—and love is the answer, and love is home. there’s no pain or acrimony here. there’s only love and acceptance.
on that note, there’s the “1993–2021” card. the fact that they’ve got their hands together shows they’ve gone together in unity. (aside: Idk if you saw, but Warren Fu, who designed the card, said DP worked on it *together* with him. again, I have no reason to believe there’s any ill will here. just acceptance of finality.)
(something that came to me after writing the message: Daft Punk’s final piece could very well have been that mix of “Touch”. they went out on a note of love.)
