hello chat, unfortunately the pet portrait scam is still alive and well (almost happened to me yesterday/today!!)

here's how it went:

they'll ask for two pet portraits, and when you tell them the price they'll insist on giving you $200. (at this point i was suspicious of the overcharge, buuut figured i'd see how far they'd take it)

shortly after they 'confirm' the payment, you'll get an email (a forged email from 'paypal'- which i must say, was almost convincing. always check the email address though! it was a gmail, (serviceintlpaypal00.couk@gmail.com 💀💀) not the actual paypal service address)

during all of this, your actual paypal account will not have received anything.

the email will have instructions detailing that your account is 'unable to be credited due to a limit'- which, mind you, paypal has no sending/receiving limits as long as your account is verified. it'll say you have to request another $200 from the sender, to 'expand your account limit', and then send back the extra $200.

this is the point where i cut contact for my own safety, but it could've easily gone further if i wasn't careful.

please be safe out there guys!! i wanted to write out the overall premise of how this scam unfolds so others can look out for such things, and avoid getting scammed.
