something that irks me about some draco fanfics is making his parents abusive, that makes absolutely no sense. lucius and narcissa love their son so much, there is nothing in canon that alludes to abuse. even draco's childish tendency to tell everything to his father is a very strong sign that they have a good relationship. even i who, personally, have an 'okay' relationship with my father dont tell him everything that happens to me, i dont trust him enough for that. but draco does.

narcissa made a unbreakable vow to make sure her son is protected in school in hbp, she gives her son her wand (something wizards dont do lightly) after harry takes his, she lies to the dark lord in appreciation for harry confirming that her son is alive and went straight to look for him with lucius (both unarmed i should say).

and lucius, who is a strict father i will not deny that, but compared to harry's uncle, an actual abuser, he's wonderful. he gives draco everything he wants, and not in a "take this and shut up" way, but in a rich aristocratic parent who spoils their child way. he treats draco with respects and talks to him like he would talk to a peer, he trusts draco to know things about his job, plans and prospects. he is only seen being rude to draco when the subject of the conversation is hermione, someone lucius naturally looks down upon, beating draco's grade. he makes draco's life so easy and that is a privilege very few characters in this universe have and its not something bad inherently, he was born with this privilege, and he will make sure his son grows up the same way.

you like it or not the malfoy's are very close-knit, even if they aren't exactly weasley levels of close-knit, they still love and take care of each other. yes they are prejudiced, yes they are war criminals, yes they have no morals, but at least they do everything to protect each other.

and now back to the fanon part. i think most authors do this to humanize draco and make him and harry (bc i only read drarry fics so if this happens also in other draco ships let me know) have more in common. i think the best way to humanize and redeem draco is not by making him a victim of abuse, the lazy way of saying "see! thats why hes like that", but making him realize that everything he once believed was wrong and actively work towards becoming a better person.

edit bc i remembered something related to this: lucius and narcissa love each other also!!! so sick and tired of fics writing their marrige as failed or that they're only married for convenience. narcissa DOES NOT deserve to hear you say those things about her marriage when she went through hell and back to save lucius's name from the GUTTER more than enough times. and lucius "but cissy" malfoy respects and loves his wife so much that he puts up with her crazy family and does. not. complain. keep my parents names out of your mouth!

I felt quite insecure and ashamed to post this,

But I don't think I can hold it back anymore.

I'm from Bangladesh, my homeland, I speak Bangla, it's my mother tongue, and I'm proud of my roots but my family immigrated to America many years ago. But I still care a lot about my country. So recently, there has been a lot going in Bangladesh. Mainly, it's because of its corrupted government. Our prime minister Sheikh Hasina is literally a dictator, if you go to twitter and search about recent news in Bangladesh, you can see that the situation is not that good. Basically, it's because we have a thing which is called "Quota" and it affects the Bangladeshi Government job sectors in a very negative way. This "Quota" is for the freedom fighters who fought in 1971 war which happened in Bangladesh. But the problem is that, even though those freedom fighters are dead, their families are welcome to enjoy the privileges which the quota provides.

Mostly, the grandchildren of these freedom fighters can use the quota to get jobs in Bangladesh's most prestigious job sectors, which has created a huge unemployment problem in Bangladesh. Also, these "so called" grandchildren are now TOTALLY CORRUPTED AND RUINING OUR COUNTRY while enjoying many privileges given by our PM and Bangladeshi students are very mad about it because normal, brilliant students with ZERO QUOTA cannot get into any prestigious job sectors no matter how hard they try!

Thousands of students have also committed sui*ide because they could not feed their poor family who are looking up to these brilliant students so that they can spin their family's poor fate.

From 13 July till now, the students of many public and private universities of Bangladesh are protesting together and risking their lives in order to remove this disgusting, vile and cruel quota system. Unfortunately, given to these current circumstances, our PM still pays no mind to these poor students who are protesting ENDLESSLY and literally DYING ON THE ROAD !!

Sheikh Hasina has labeled these brave students as RAJAKAR/TRAITORS (Collaborators who aided the enemy country Pakistan in 1971)

Our brave Bengali students, male and female, got so enraged, heartbroken by the fact that their prime minister called them traitors of the country just because they wanted the quota system removed. Following that incident, on July 15, at 1 AM, Dhaka University students, Eden Women's College students and many other University students broke down the gates of their hall at midnight and ran down to the streets to protest while chanting "Who are you? Who am I ? Rajakar, Rajakar!!"

Brave men and women who are protesting against this quota, are now being brutally attacked and mercilessly killed by the government party terrorist organization Chhatra League. The students at Dhaka University are now being attacked with stones, Bats, knifes and literally anything that can hurt a human brutally enough. Our government has turned their back on us, claiming that these students are traitors of their own country, and they are selfish because they do not want the quota system to give benefits to only the grandchildren of freedom fighters anymore.

But the reality is, these so-called grandchildren are now dominating 56% of job sectors with the help of money, nepotism and other dishonest ways while the honest student of our country stays unemployed, their talents wasted, efforts unappreciated and thus, they suffer from depression.

I'm not asking that much from my followers, but please, for the love of God, share my post as much as you can. These mass protests are not being seen enough, share and retweet as much as possible, we need to spread these horrifying actions committed by our PM to the world. Shame, shame, shame on them. Shame on our government for turning a blind eye to hundred thousand of these students. The streets of Dhaka have been drenched with the blood of our students; in order to save their lives, we need to spread this news as much as possible. My cousins from Bangladesh are absolutely frightened, their exams have been stopped, teachers are also turning their backs on these students, they have nowhere to go now. My cousin's classmate got her arm broken off by terrorist organization Chaatro League men just because she was protesting against the corrupted system.

Women are getting assaulted, acids are being thrown at these students, violence is now occurring left and right, our PM is a woman and still, she chooses to betray the students and stands still on her disgusting beliefs with the terrorist government organization Awami League supporting her crimes.

On 21 February, in 1952, thousands of students at Dhaka University protested against the West Pakistan in order to establish the language Bangla as the state language of east Pakistan. Thousands of students had died on that day, which is why we Bangladeshis celebrate 21 February as our Mother Language Day.

It seems like history is going to repeat itself yet again.

There is something that makes me feel nauseous about the new marauders era fans (but this is just generally a Harry Potter fan problem) is like, fascist apologia.

Because like, fiction is fiction. I'm not going to pretend it is real. I love evil characters. Characters don't have to be morally pure, or even morally good, to be compelling and interesting and worth writing about. Concurrently, the broad trend of babygirlifying men, fascist men in particular, concerns me.

Regulus is not baby girl. Barty Crouch Jr. is ABSOLUTELY not baby girl. You can write interesting and compelling stories about them as characters without making them into soft men who didn't really mean it uwu. They were bigots, canonically. They were fascists! You can talk about their upbringings and what drove them to fascism! You can say they were abused and hurt! That doesn't mean they weren't fascists who wanted to inflict pain on others. And I think it's a weird trend to ignore that or water it down or justify it.

And this is just petty, but I don't understand jegulus or rosekiller. I'll accept rosekiller because it's so meaningless to me that I'm only actually bothered by the babygirlification of the main characters, but I genuinely don't see any appeal to jegulus. Not really hating on it, just confused. Like, the things that I think make James Potter interesting and good are his loyalty to his friends and his anti-bigotry thing. Without those, he's an arrogant, popular prankster who is mean. I think jegulus kind of changes those interesting characteristics unless it's AU or OOC. It kind of seems to me people are looking for James to be gay and trying to find any man, and Snape and Peter are less sexy and liked. Which, I guess is fine. It just doesn't bring anything to me.

But also most of my Harry Potter headcanons would make people side eye me. Regardless, fight me.

You're actually right about this one. Though I'm still skeptical about some events, it is explicitly stated in canon that he was indeed pleased to volunteer kreacher for the horcrux protection testing situation. And yes, harry being a unreliable narrative messes up the whole plotline. And kreacher had nothing to lie about either. Also, sorry about the thing I said about Regulus volunteering, he was literally raised to believe that purebloods were superior and muggles were inferior and needed to be eradicated, he joined the dark lord to help him achieve not only his goals but also to honor his house name, Black. As his unwavering loyalty was mentioned many times.

I do think that Sirius had no reason to be biased. Sirius literally fought tooth and nail just for his family to treat muggles right, he did not rebel just to piss off his parents, he literally ran away from his family that's so wildly popular for being extreme with their ideals. He always fought for what is right, no wonder he broke his family's tradition by being placed in Gryffindor. Because he had always been brave, full of courage and his loyalty toward eradicating the pureblood ideals truly makes up a lot for his rebellious personality. Canon Sirius would never lie about something that actually fueled his desires to oppose everything his family ever tried indoctrinate to make him believe. And he served in Azkaban for 12 fucking years because of that and he still chose to help harry just because he was so loyal to his dead friend who helped him during his most lowest point of life.

We cannot cherry pick some events from canon to fit our objective desires for redeeming somebody who clearly had done more wrong than right but was late to realize, just to mess up the whole point of Sirius becoming a rebel and why harry stood against Voldemort in the first place.

ngl, if you believe that Regulus's true beliefs are unknown as the only piece of canon information we have on that front is from Sirius, which could be biased because of the animosity between them...I don't think you can say Regulus took revenge on Voldemort for Kreacher because we learn that from Kreacher himself, an elf that literally worships him. So for all we know, Regulus could've been a blood supremacist/voldy fan, could've been not, could've loved his elf, or could've seen them as inferior beings and only betrayed Voldemort simply because he knew Voldemort needed to be stopped.

...im not saying anything, im on the side that he loves his elf, but I was arguing with someone about Regulus as a character and they told me what's mentioned above. That Sirius's dialogues on him aren't reliable for that reason and that Regulus defected when his elf got hurt.

So it's just...idk man.

My headcanons for how Petalsnake (Lucius x Petunia) played out

My backstory for them is that in 1979 Voldemort was tracking down the Potters (not particularly for prophecy reasons just because they were powerful adversaries and he wanted them gone) and so he decided to try and use Petunia to get to Lily. She’s taken to Malfoy Manor where she meets Lucius for the first time.

They definitely don’t instantly connect but I see him accidentally getting to know her better and having to face the fact muggles aren’t all they seem (he later rejects this line of thought and decides it’s just Petunia that’s the exception so he doesn’t have to confront changing his own ideology)

Petunia plays along and pretends to know where Lily is (she doesn’t) for a bit because despite being in a hostage situation she’s finally involved in the world she’s been locked out of for so long

Her opinion on this changes when Voldemort comes and seriously threatens her for the first time and she realises her life, and her sister’s life, are in danger

Lucius, having grown close to her decides to help her escape and anonymously contacts the Potters and then makes it possible for a rescue to occur

Back home, Lucius gives her a way to contact him and says she can decide if she ever wants to see him again (this is referenced in my fic a date to remember) but eventually ends up coming and asking her on a date anyway

Throughout the rest of 1979 they see each other regularly, with their dates continuing throughout 1980 and early 1981 but declining a little due to Lucius’ circumstances

Finally after the events of October 31st in 1981, Petunia cuts off all contact with Lucius and destroys any evidence she ever knew him. Lucius, who would’ve personally continued the affair, was more affected by this than Petunia, mainly because she was focused on grieving a sister she’d spent most of the time disliking and taking in a child she didn’t want

They have no contact with each other at all until after Voldemort’s defeat, but they both decide not to resume their affair

Lucius does go to Petunia’s funeral but stays mostly out of the way (because canonically she died sometime before 2020 and was somewhere between 38 and 61 when it happened 😭)
