hopefully the male loneliness catches up with indian men soon 🙏
hi everyone!! this is a really difficult decision for me to make, because I believe access to art and writing is important at all levels of community, and it should never be locked behind account restrictions and regulations, and I also understand I have several readers who are unable to have ao3 accounts.
with that being said, in light of the absolutely massive and completely unforgivable ai scrape that occurred on ao3, which stole all of my works, I will be moving forward to archive locking all of my fics. it's not a decision that I make lightly, and I've spent a lot of time since the scrape thinking about it. I never wanted to be put in this position, and if it was up to me, my fics would always be open for everyone.
"everyone" does not include the theft of my time, effort, or creative ideas. it does not include the violation of taking my works to feed a system I do not and cannot agree with. as someone who has been accused of using ai in their college/uni papers because of my writing, it is the ultimate offense for my writing to then be stolen the way it has been.
I'm hopeful for ao3 to take action in the future to guard the rights of authors and artists on their site, and I feel better knowing that their lawyers are already on it. unfortunately, until there's a better solution, my fics will be archive locked for the foreseeable future.
in case it wasn't clear, let me lay it out as explicitly as possible: I do not consent to using my writing or works to feed to ai. I do not agree with using ai in any capacity. knowing that my works were in the scrape is beyond infuriating, and to the person who thought it was okay in any capacity to preform that scrape: go fuck yourself, and I sincerely hope that the authors curse hits you in every form imaginable.
Sometimes, in fandom, we just want to write id-tastic fic that rolls around in tropes that might be viewed as problematic. But we don’t want to address the problematic side of things in this particular fanwork; we just want to roll around and wallow.
It is considered courteous to give readers a heads-up via use of AO3 tags. I propose a tag that signals that a given fanwork is for rolling around, not giving a measured evaluation of anything. The MCU has carved out a space for this sort of fic with the “HYDRA Trash Party” tag, for which I commend them. Trash Party is a bit too specific to cover all of the ground I’m thinking of here, though; I propose “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.”
For those of you not familiar with Arrested Development, Michael Bluth finds a paper bag in the freezer labeled “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.” He opens the bag, finds a dead dove, and reacts as follows:
[gif of a white man saying “I don’t know what I expected” in a deadpan manner]
The “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat” tag would essentially be a “what it says on the tin” metatag, indicating “you see the tropes and concepts tagged here? they are going to appear in this fic. exactly as said. there will not necessarily be any subversion, authorial commentary condemning problematic aspects, or meditation on potential harm. this fic contains dead dove. if you proceed, you should expect to encounter it.”

One of my absolute favorite stsg fic premises has got to be gojo being a (hot) nerd (canon) and (alternative) geto like “god i need him carnally”
