The comparisons between Sam being thrown in prison and the staged finale are not exactly false, but they’re very superficial.

Like, clearly it was too easy; clearly it’s not going to work; clearly it’s yet again putting someone in a prison of their own design.

Yet this definitely isn’t something Sam expected or planned. Dream being trapped in a prison of his own design was never karma, because that’s literally what he designed it for. Not so with Sam.

And Dream meant to get himself thrown in not just by a few people seeking revenge, but by the entire server. And his imprisonment (ostensibly) was meant to have the purpose of containment rather than vengeance; Dream was meant to be a tool. The Revengers were much more honest about their motives; they have personal beef with Sam, they want to punish him. Most importantly, this was not scales being lifted from the server’s eyes. Sam is still respected. There is not consensus. There is not vilification. This wasn’t a community judgement.

These situations are not parallel; they are not similar falls from grace; only one is poetic irony.

Okay I know we make jokes about Hermes twerking it up on the raft while Ody is literally trying to survive. But can I point out that Hermes stayed with Ody up until Charybdis. All he had to do was deliver the bag and a warning, and then his job was done. He chose to stay with his great-grandson. He chose to keep him company. And that's just adorable.
