On this year women's day, all we could think about are Palestinian women in Gaza.

Nearly 9,000 women have been killed in Israeli attacks in five months. Another 2,100 are missing and presumed dead, while 23,000 have been wounded and over half a million are displaced.

“Palestinian women, especially in the Gaza Strip, are exposed to the worst humanitarian catastrophe,” Ashraf al-Qudra, the health ministry’s spokesperson, said on Thursday.

Dozens of women and girls have also been detained and face harsh conditions in Israeli custody, including sexual abuse.

Women in Gaza also struggle to find menstruation products and access the necessary pregnancy and post-natal care. The consequences on reproductive health, including a rise in stress-induced miscarriages, stillbirths and premature births, have increased significantly.

Women in labour are undergoing caesarean procedures without anaesthetics, and a shortage of post-operative care such as medication, antibiotics and pain relief further exacerbates the situation.

According to the health ministry, 5,000 women give birth monthly in Gaza under “harsh, unsafe and unhealthy” conditions caused by Israeli bombing and displacement.

There are 60,000 pregnant women in Gaza suffering from “malnutrition, dehydration and lack of medical care.

There have also been repeated cases of Israeli soldiers mocking Palestinian women by posting videos and pictures of themselves rummaging through personal belongings in Gaza homes, making derogatory comments and posing with women’s underwear.

My grandmother was born in Palestine before Israel existed. My grandmother, who died less than a decade ago (in her 70s) was already older than the settler colonial state of Israel. Judaism exists without Zionism. Zionism goes against the Jewish religion. Zionism is white supremacy.

I really adore the casually prioritized importance of friendships in the new Twisters movie. Like obviously there were sparks of romance that i thoroughly enjoyed but the point is that that was never the point. The way that Javi and Kate took care of each other and looked out for each other even when they were fighting. The way the whole tornado wranglers crew acted like family and welcomed Kate right in. The way Tyler was genuinely interested in getting to know Kate and working together with her. There was no big fight between Javi and Tyler over Kate or anybody else. Kate spent the whole movie processing a lot of trauma and was able to be supported by the friends surrounding her instead of having all of her interactions stopped up with an intense budding romance. I just really love it when friendship and people are the most important things.

I may or may not be on my way to write a time travel fix it fic centered around Rosita, Siddiq, Gabriel and Coco because, hear me out, we give these traumatized bitches a happy ending 🥹

You know what my favorite twisters hc is? Addy having a little sister, obviously played by Mckenna Grace, who is just a teenager when her sister dies. But years later she ends up in the same town as The Wranglers + Kate and Javi (this taking place around a year after the movie) and not only is she the same age Addy was when she died, she’s also the spitting image of her. And did I mention that she also chases storms??? And did I mention that she’s a few months away from being older than her older sister and her entire life is about trying to make sure her sister didn’t die in vain, to live the life Addy didn’t get??? And did I mention she doesn’t talk to their parents so Gracie is utterly alone in this word??

Kate and Javi are finally healing and dealing with their issues and falling in love with the Wranglers, and then the girl they watched grow up, who looks exactly like Addy, rolls into their camp demanding to know if they finally accomplished what her sister died for. And all of their old trauma hits them with the grace of an EF5.

Anyways, I may or may not have wip called your my sister but your eyes are closed because I crave angst and forcing Kate + Javi to deal with all their issues :)

One of my favorite parts of “Twisters” is the misdirect with Tyler Owens’ character. Because at the start of the movie, he’s introduced as a douchebag YouTuber whose videos are vlogs in which he and his crew get into dangerous situations. But then when our protagonist Kate gets to know him, we learn that Tyler is actually:

1) a really sweet, humble dude who is looking out for all his friends

2) the smartest dumb guy you’ll ever meet. He has a degree in meteorology, but he does dumb things like drive into a tornado.

3) jumps into danger because he “feels” it / he’s attracted to the danger / wants to see if he can handle the danger

So in a weird way, he’s introduced as Cowboy Logan Paul, only for it to be revealed he’s more like Cowboy Markiplier. And let me just say, as soon as I compared him to Mark in the theater, I couldn’t unsee it lol.

The IOF opened fire on starving civilians trying to collect food aid murdering dozens and injuring an estimated hundreds or more they then crushed some of the injured by running over them with tanks. This was their “reason.”
