This is by far, my longest animatic to date. Im sorry it took so long and that I havent released art in 4 weeks at all, but it was to work on this! I hope you all enjoy it. I know i usually post evangelion and danganronpa, but im really proud of this one. I enjoyed utena dearly and just really wanted to make something big for it, to show my appreciation! Also, huge thanks to neta for helping me make the shadow girls part! Their tumblr is @strawberry-flavors!

the idea of eternity in utena is so interesting. initially "there is no such thing as something eternal" is the thought that sends utena spiraling into suicidality, which is understandable, since the idea that everything will end someday is terrifying. especially to a child. especially to a child who just encountered one of the most traumatizing and violent "endings" possible, the deaths of her parents. but then she's shown that apparently something can be eternal. and that something is pain, which is even worse, but at least gives her something to live for. and then by the end of the show it's like. no, pain isn't eternal either. "there is no such thing as something eternal" is reframed as a positive. eternity is Not Good. eternity is everything staying the same forever, never changing for the better. it's the opposite of revolution. it's what akio wants, perpetuating the system that benefits him at the cost of everyone else forever and ever. and no matter what utena might have thought, it is not what she wants.

KELSANG:

I’ve got a nose like a dove-tailed deer

I run like a leaf on the wind

My arms are slight and my waist is tight

And I don’t have a thought for my kin

KYOSHI:

I’ve got two knives that are cast in bronze

They pierce all the way to the soul

They draw you in with the promise of sin

Like the moth to the flame to the coal

I’ve got hair like the starless night

It sticks to my lips when I smile

I’ll wind it with yours and we’ll drift off course

In a ship touching hearts all the while

For the way I walk is a lantern lit

That leads you into the night

I’ll hold you close and love you the most

Until our end is in sight

Excuse the quality!!! But I just really wanted to get this down quickly before I forgot it.

This is the shanty that Kyoshi and co. sing in the kitchen in the chapter Honest Work, and the rhythm of the poem was so clear that I couldn’t get it out  of my head! So I ended up writing some music for it. So please enjoy!
