“[…] I woke up in a hospital room on what would be our second day of filming. I had no idea how long I’d been unconscious. In fact, I had no idea where I was or what had happened, but as my vision cleared, I noticed someone watching me. Someone was beside my bed patiently waiting for me to wake up, though no one knew when or if it would happen. I blinked. I blinked again. It was Axl. He got up, stood beside me and smiled. He looked really relieved and said, “That was close, Stevie.” He was the only one there. Later, the nurse told me that he had been sitting next to me all the time. The others moved on and made the film, but Axl stayed in the hospital. What Axl did was so noble, altruistic and amazing that I cried tears of joy. He got a bit out of the way when he saw the downpour, but that’s no problem. I felt nothing but uncontrolled love for him at that moment and I do not care that he saw me crying. There he was, ending the chance to appear in a scene from a big movie, standing by me, doing his own vigil, just Axl. Damn it, Axl. When I thought I had deciphered him, he went and did the most touching and meaningful thing anyone has ever done for me. That was really cool.
Thank you, Axl.“
