This Is A Family I Wanted To Do For A Long Time But For Many Reasons I Just Never Started. It Is Not

This is a family I wanted to do for a long time but for many reasons I just never started. It is not easy to find a good image for reference of marine mammals because the photographs underwater aren't that sharp and also because the majority of the images never show the full body of the animal. Nonetheless, I have to use more than one picture to complete the whole animal, which is fun. Let's begin with a very beloved family that I'm sure we will be surprised by how little we might know about them.

Commerson's Dolphin

Is one of the smallest members of the Delphinidae family with no more than 1.5m lengths. It has a very striking and particular color pattern. The genus has two subspecies. The one in the illustration, C. c .commersonii, can be found on the coasts of South Argentina. The C. c .kerguelensis, is found in the Indian Ocean.

it has been displayed in a few aquariums and this subspecies used to be killed and used as bait to catch crabs in Chile and Argentina. This method however is nowadays been curtailed.

Sei Whale
Sei Whale

Sei Whale

Is the third-largest rorqual before the Fin whale and the Blue whale. Heavily hunted in the XIX and XX century its numbers dropped from 250.000 to 80.000 which in other words mean less than a third of the pre whaling population. Today luckily is protected.

Mass deaths events have been recorded numerous times and the reason why isn't clear but it appears to be endemic poisoning called red tide. It is a phenomenon of decoloration of the sea surface that occurs by an overpopulation of certain microorganisms, apparently caused by the unprecedented warming of the Pacific Ocean. The biggest mass death event documented happened in Chile in June 2015 where 337 death Sei Whales were counted.

Unlike The Horses, This Time Is Different. If Asia Has Camels As War Machines, South America Has Its

Unlike the horses, this time is different. If Asia has camels as war machines, South America has its equivalent: The Llama.

I don’t think there is any other animal that involves cultural symbolism, evolution of a civilization and an inexhaustible source as the Lama for the Inca culture. This animal was vital in the bloomed of Inca’s civilization.

Its wool made them capable to conquer highs that were unthinkable in any other way, not just because its endurance but because its wool that protect Incas from the freezing temperatures.

Regarded also as a noble symbol, Incas were often buried with llamas and one of it’s Gods, Urcuchillay, was depicted as a Llama.

Probably it’s only enemy are the pumas, making this animal, as the camel, an infalible machine against nature. Studying this family made think of how hard can be for life to thrive in certain conditions. It makes feel as is nature is really testing its inhabitants in a fearfully battle for survival, where the loser, the one that cannot adapt will be invariably, extinct.

I'm Tired Of Drawing Giraffes, But Fortunately, I Only Have One More Left To Finish. After That, I'm

I'm tired of drawing giraffes, but fortunately, I only have one more left to finish. After that, I'm excited to move on to drawing the Okapi, and once the family will be complete. Awesome!

Angolan Giraffe

The Angolan Giraffe, also known as the Namibian Giraffe, is native to southern Africa, specifically Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Angola. These giraffes have a unique coat pattern with irregular rusty brown patches on a whitish or light beige skin. Males have a distinctive bulk in the forefront.

There have been studies suggesting that the two surviving populations, one in the north and one in the south, may be different subspecies, but this conclusion has not yet been universally accepted within the scientific community. The distinction between giraffe species and subspecies as a whole is not yet fully clear. _______________________________________ Credits: Angolan Giraffe Photo Credits: Zdeněk Hašek ________________________________________ Thank you for your support. "Today, The Last Tiger Subspecies And Probably My Favorite One: The Sumatran Tiger. While Working On

"Today, the last tiger subspecies and probably my favorite one: the Sumatran Tiger. While working on this animal, I discovered that it has several notable visual differences from other subspecies of tigers. One of the most striking is the length and density of its mane, which gives it an even more majestic appearance. Additionally, the tiger's stripes are thicker, creating a more vivid contrast in its coat.

I'm excited to share with you that I'll be releasing a poster featuring all the subspecies of tigers, including the Sumatran Tiger, very soon. Stay tuned for more updates!" Sumatran Tiger The Sumatran tiger is the smallest of all tiger subspecies and is currently listed as critically endangered with only about 400 individuals left in the wild. Unfortunately, the Javan and Bali tiger is now extinct. They were populations that belonged to this subspecies of tiger. To preserve the Sumatran tiger, numerous programs are being conducted in zoos that have shown promising results. _______________________________________________ Credits: Felids and Hyenas of the World: Wildcats, Panthers, Lynx, Pumas, Ocelots, Caracals, and Relatives.  Dr. José R. Phacochoerus – Warthog
Phacochoerus – Warthog

Phacochoerus – Warthog

I love this ugly! Since I was a child I feel impressed by his horrendous face. Still somehow to me is beautiful.

There are six subspecies of Warthog until now but it could be more or less depending on further studies of some of this subspecies.

Common Warthog, Nolan Warthog: Mothers they are very aggressive, they can charge at bigger predators for defending their piglets. it is very a important element of the food chain since has many predators such as humans, crocodiles, hyenas, lions, leopards and even some birds of prey.

Southern Warthog: It can be found in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe

Central African Warthog: It can be found in Kenya and Tanzania

Desert Warthog, Somali warthog: Morphological differences between Desert Warthogs and Common Warthog have been overlooked until recently, that now they can be distinguished in the wild. Desert Warthog has drooping genal warts, tips of ears that bend backwards, swollen suborbital pouches round the eyes, and a shorter basi-occipital region that makes the head look “egg-shaped”.

Cape warthog: It used to be seen in the South African region but became extinct in 1865. I couldn’t find the reasons or a better image to take as a reference.

Eritrean warthog: Can be found in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia.

The next species is the last one from this huge family and and one of the most estrange from the suidae family: The Babirusa.

The Last Species Of The Equidae Family, The Zebras! Zebras Have Three Distinctive Species And 10 Subspecies.

The last species of the Equidae family, The zebras! Zebras have three distinctive species and 10 subspecies. It is probably the most beloved of the equines, (apart from the horses of course) and it is indeed a very particular animal.

On the other hand, to solve the mystery of the color of the zebras once and for all (if they are white with black stripes, or black with withe stripes), I can assure that these ones are black with white stripes.

Grevy’s Zebra or Imperial Zebra: The largest and the most threatened. Its population has declined from 15000 to 3000 since the 70′s. Although since 2008 it’s population has been stable. It differs in behavior from the other species because it doesn’t form big harems. It has narrower stripes and bigger size. Its main problem was hunting since its skin was highly appreciated in the market. Today the Grevy’s Zebra is protected in Ethiopia and Kenya making a decline in the hunting. However, habitat loss and competing for natural resources with livestock became its main issue. Posters in my store: Here

Short-finned Pilot Whale Globicephala Macrorhynchus

Short-finned Pilot Whale Globicephala macrorhynchus

Family: Delphinidae Genus: Globicephala Subspecies: 00

Feed: Mollusks Habitat: Coastal Waters Status and Conservation: Least Concern This whale is known by various names. Pilot whales were originally associated with the theory that a leader of the pod was piloting them. There is also Pothead Whale, but the Melon-Headed Whale deserves better. And, of course, there is "Blackfish," which is a term used when we are uncertain about the exact identity of various marine animals. Wanna see the whole illustration? Join the club here. $3 a month. Fin del comunicado.
