Przewalski's Horse Equus ferus przewalskii Family: Equidae Genus: Equus Subspecies: 03 Feed: Herbivorous Habitat: Temperate Steppe Status and Conservation: Critically Endangered This is the only remaining species of wild horse. The other two wild horse species have already become extinct. One of them is the Tarpan (which was mentioned in a previous post), and the other is the European Wild Horse, which went extinct during the Pleistocene era. The other horses that roam in the wild are considered feral, which means they were once domesticated horses that have reverted to a wild state.

The Przewalski Horse was also extinct in the wild at one point. However, thanks to various breeding programs and the efforts of different zoos, it has been successfully reintroduced to its natural habitat in Mongolia and China. Vietnamese Javan Rhino This one was very fun to do. I had a very low-quality photograph as a reference and I had to invent all the textures and wrinkles and also the color. Very challenging but I'm happy with the result.

There was a very small population of fewer than 12 individuals living in Cat Tien National Park in Vietnam. The last Vietnamese Javan Rhino (a subspecies of the Javan Rhinoceros) was shooted by poachers in 2011 in Vietnam. This animal used to live around very poor populations of villagers that were very hard to convince not to kill them, knowing that its parts could be sold for good money. Let's don't forget that those who decimates the population was mostly European trophy hunters at the beginning of the 20th century.

Omura's Whale Little is known about this whale because was until 2003 that it was thought to be a smaller form of the Bryde's Whale. The description was made public in Nature, a British scientific weekly journal by three Japanese scientist. They determine the existence of the new specimen by DNA analysis. It was later discovered that its closest relative might be the Blue Whale. It is one of the smallest species of rorqual.

Searching for images of this whale I saw a few videos of the whale eating and it was amazing. I never thought this size o f animal could be so fast.

Sri Lankan Spotted Chevrotain

What we know about nature is never carved on stone. What at some point in history we believe is the irrefutable truth, deeper studies of the subject often prove us wrong.

It was until 2005 that this species was separated from its closest relative, The Indian Spotted Chevrotain (Which I introduced last week) and today is recognized as a whole new species. Is obvious to say now, that not much is known about this

Long-Finned Pilot Whale (South Emisphere Form) Globicephala melas edwardii) Family: Delphinidae Genus: Globicephala Status and Conservation: Least Concern This is the final subspecies in this small family, and they closely resemble each other. Distinguishing them requires expertise. This form, for instance, exhibits more prominent white stripes on its sides and top compared to the other subspecies, though the presence of this pattern is not exclusive to it. Out of all the animals I've studied and illustrated, dolphins have left the strongest impression on me. Although I didn't know much about them at first, I'm now captivated by their unique shapes and vibrant colors. Learning about these creatures has been a truly delightful experience.

Long-Beaked Common Dolphin

The Long-Beaked Common Dolphin has been a topic of controversy in the past, as it was initially believed to be the same species as the Short Beaked Common Dolphin. However, they are now recognized as distinct species within the same family (Delphinidae). These dolphins are likely the most widespread species in the world.

This particular subspecies is exclusively found close to the shores of Africa and is larger and heavier than its counterparts that are found in various locations around the world.

Indian Elephant Elephas maximus indicus Family: Elephantidae Status and Conservation: Endangered

There are several notable distinctions between Asian Elephants and African Elephants. Firstly, Asian Elephants have significantly smaller ears than their African counterparts. Additionally, Asian Elephants have a pointed head shape, while African Elephants have a flatter head. In terms of size, Asian Elephants are considerably smaller. Northern Sumatran Rhinoceros.

When I approach to illustrate an animal I usually feel that I'm not in the right direction. Just after about an hour, I begin to see its shape. I always start with the head because is the hardest to resolve and is the one that takes me the longest to do.

The Northern Rhinoceros was the most widespread of all Sumatran rhinos. It was once found in the Indochinese peninsula, eastern India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Mongolia, and China. It has been declared extinct multiple times and there is little hope that there is a small population surviving in Burna and the Malaysian peninsula but the chances are very low.
