Tarpan: Many Reasons Collided That Resulted In The Extinction Of This Wild Horse. It Was An Important

Tarpan: Many reasons collided that resulted in the extinction of this wild horse. It was an important source of meat for many cultures and while humans were flourishing in the Eurasian continent, the Tarpan’s populations began to decrease. The Tarpan horses also were persecuted because of the damage they caused to hay storages. Breeding domestic horses with Tarpans also was a problem because the offspring were impossible to tame. Tarpans survived the longest in the southern parts of the Russian Steppe. By 1880 most Tarpans were hybrids, and pure breeds became extremely rare. In 1879 the last scientifically confirmed Tarpan in the wild was killed accidentally while being capture. The last captive Tarpan died in 1909 in a Russian zoo.

We Set Out To Cover The Entire Tapir Family, But There's A Debate About Including The Kabomani Tapir.

We set out to cover the entire tapir family, but there's a debate about including the Kabomani Tapir. This newly discovered species hasn't been validated by all studies yet. Have you heard about the Kabomani Tapir? Do you think it's a distinct species or a subspecies of the Lowland Tapir? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Mountain Tapir

Family: Tapiridae Genus: Tapirus Conservation Status: Endangered Habitat: Mountain Forest Subspecies: 0 The Mountain Tapir, excluding the controversial Kabomani Tapir, is the smallest member of the tapir family. Unlike its tropical relatives, it thrives in chilly high-altitude environments within the Andes mountain range and is known for its thick, woolly coat. Unfortunately, decades of internal conflict in Colombia have both helped and hindered this species. While the instability has prevented hunting and habitat destruction in some regions, it has also made it difficult for researchers to study their habits and breeding patterns.

Despite the advantages and challenges presented by the conflict, the Mountain Tapir remains endangered. The species faces threats from hunting, habitat fragmentation, and the introduction of cattle. The current population of around 2,500 individuals may decline by 20% over the next 20 years, which is concerning given the species' already precarious situation. Protecting this unique species and their mountain habitats is crucial to ensure their survival. ________________________________ Credits: Handbook of the Mammals of the World. Book 2. Lynx Editions. Forest Hog

Forest hog

This is a special monster. The first time I saw this hog I was impressed by how ugly is and still how magnificent.

Three subspecies are provisionally recognized:

Congo Forest Hog:  Ranges from southeast Nigeria to Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo

Giant Forest Hog Occurs as scattered populations from the Albertine Rift Highlands of eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo to the eastern (Gregory) Rift Valley in Ethiopia and Kenya.

West African Forest Hog Can be found in Ghana, Ivory Coast, Togo and Nigeria

The Giant Hog that inhabit in Ethiopia could be another subspecies to classified. However further taxonomic studies are required.

The Last Species Of The Equidae Family, The Zebras! Zebras Have Three Distinctive Species And 10 Subspecies.

The last species of the Equidae family, The zebras! Zebras have three distinctive species and 10 subspecies. It is probably the most beloved of the equines, (apart from the horses of course) and it is indeed a very particular animal.

On the other hand, to solve the mystery of the color of the zebras once and for all (if they are white with black stripes, or black with withe stripes), I can assure that these ones are black with white stripes.

Grevy’s Zebra or Imperial Zebra: The largest and the most threatened. Its population has declined from 15000 to 3000 since the 70′s. Although since 2008 it’s population has been stable. It differs in behavior from the other species because it doesn’t form big harems. It has narrower stripes and bigger size. Its main problem was hunting since its skin was highly appreciated in the market. Today the Grevy’s Zebra is protected in Ethiopia and Kenya making a decline in the hunting. However, habitat loss and competing for natural resources with livestock became its main issue. Posters in my store: Here

Introducing An Updated Illustrated Poster Featuring All The Tigers Of The World! While It Was Once Believed

Introducing an updated illustrated poster featuring all the tigers of the world! While it was once believed that there were nine subspecies of tigers, recent scientific research has shown that there are actually only two: those that live on the continent and those that reside on islands. However, within these two subspecies, there are various populations of tigers that were previously classified as distinct subspecies. Creating this poster was a labor of love that required a significant amount of time and effort. Some of the animals featured on the poster were particularly challenging to illustrate due to their extinction, which meant there was limited photographic evidence available to use as a reference. I am thrilled with the final product and hope that others will appreciate the attention to detail and care that went into each illustration. An Illustrated Poster With All The Rhinos Of The World. Is The Most Complete Compilation Because Includes

An illustrated poster with all the rhinos of the world. Is the most complete compilation because includes all the subspecies, even the ones that are extinct.

It took time to search, compile and corroborate information. Some of the extinct subspecies' quality photographs weren't good and some others didn't even have, so I had to base them on written descriptions.

Moreover, illustrating a rhino is not easy. Is a meticulous job. A rhino has a lot of textures that take time to do if you want to make it believable (an average of 10 hours per rhino). it drained me and I found myself exhausted at the end. But worthed it. I love animals, I love rhinos and I love to study them and share what I learned.

Vicuña The Last Species Of The Family And The Smallest Too. And Like Many Small Things It Is Also The

Vicuña The last species of the family and the smallest too. And like many small things it is also the most precious treasure. The wool of the vicuña is among the most expensive textiles worldwide. A meter square can reach an impressive $3000 US. being mostly exclusive for the most prestigious high couture brands in the world.

In a move that I found very smart from the governments where the animal can be found, is that the exportation of these animals is strictly prohibited making these countries the only ones who can manage the vicuña’s wool business. Good for them!

Once widespread in millions, it was vastly hunted when the conquerors discovered America (A repeated story), until 1950 where its numbers plumped to mere 10.000. Today is heavily protected and its situation is stable. However,  Scientist state that its stable population depends of the different laws of protection. If those laws would be lifted, the animal will be at the brick of extinction in just five years.

The next family is a very grumpy cute looking giant.

________

I’ve been improving the illustrations of the animals making it more realistic in order for the information to be clearer. Can you tell the difference of these ones compare to the previous ones?

Thanks again for your support, likes, reblog and follows, means a lot to me. Don’t forget that if you want to buy some of the posters of the previous families of animals you can find them here: Poster of Species   On my Instagram account, I’m planning to post part of the illustration process. Don’t miss it:  Species of the World See you next time.

I Absolutely Loved Doing This One. I Knew There Were Different Subspecies Of Giraffes But I Never Put

I absolutely loved doing this one. I knew there were different subspecies of giraffes but I never put attention to them. I loved the fading light color spots on the very light skin tone of this one. To me, this giraffe is by far, the easiest to distinguish. Is the lightest giraffe in color, the patches are also pale, and is the only one that survives in the North West of Africa. Store Instagram Niger Giraffe / West African Giraffe Previously, this animal was found in Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Niger, and Chad. Today just can be found in Niger. By the 90s, the number of this animal decreased to mere 49 individuals. Today is protected and its numbers increase to about 600. This giraffe was confused by zoos in Europe. They thought they had this subspecies of giraffes, while in reality, they had the Kordofan one (the one I show in my last post on Giraffes). This happened because the populations that inhabit North Cameroon and Chad were thought to be Niger Giraffes while in fact were Kordofan. It was noticed after genetic studies were done. _______________________________________________ Credits: Niger Giraffe Niger Giraffe _______________________________________________ If you like the content please like, subscribe, and/or reblog, it will help me a lot. Comments are also very much appreciated. Next week, a new dolphin. One I didn't know existed.

Working On This One Was Challenging Because There Is Only One Picture From 1884 Taken Of This Animal

Working on this one was challenging because there is only one picture from 1884 taken of this animal before its extinction. However, when I have to put inventive ways to create an animal as realistic as possible is when I enjoy the illustration more.

Tarpan

Scientists have long grappled with the origins of the domestic horse, seeking to establish its ancestral roots. Initially, there were two distinct horse populations: the Prewalsky horse in Europe and the Tarpan in Asia. Regrettably, the Tarpan became extinct at the dawn of the 20th century, leaving no DNA samples behind. This absence of genetic evidence has posed a significant challenge in determining the true origins of the domestic horse. Nevertheless, studies analyzing the DNA of the Prewalski horse have provided compelling evidence of a close relationship between these horses and their domestic counterparts.

Numerous endeavors have been undertaken to revive the Tarpan breed. While the Heck Horse bears the closest resemblance in terms of appearance, their genetic makeup tells a different tale.
