Porcelain Mug. Light Blue Iceberg Blue. Wheel thrown & wood fired. Stunning.
New, it’s from my ceramic art collection. It is made by an educated potter, or ceramic fine artist. It has what is called a ‘moon foot’ & other wabi-sabi qualities. It was hand held as it was dipped in glaze, and the finger marks are porcelain windows through the celedon glaze. Celedon is one of the first few glazes humans developed and has a wide array of colors, based on the glaze formulation & the firing process. This was fired in a high fire, wood fire, reduction kiln.
The ash from wood fell on part of it as it moved through the kiln, melding with the glaze. For laymen, on this piece, it looks similar to if pepper was shaken on it.
This lovely, perfect, functional piece can be put in the microwave & dishwasher but not in the oven. Do not thermal shock it. The glaze is satin, so not glossy & not matt , and very smooth.
It comes in a giftable box, or you can store it in it- whatever you like.
Height: 3.5 inches width widest diameter of cu part: 3.25 inches & width, including handle: about 4 inches.
