I've noticed more and more in public bathrooms that people skip the handwash and just take a squirt of hand sanitizer from wall dispensers on the way out. hand sanitizer is NOT effective against most things that come out of your ass. i cannot stress this enough. i'm begging y'all. please. please please please please please use the soap.
i'm out here immunosupressed fighting for my life to not get naturally selected while people around me touch a public toilet handles and walk back to their tables to immediately eat a burger
Here are a few of my thoughts about our duo:
Lando’s self criticism isn’t petulant and defeated—it’s aching, full of intent, and a desire to deliver. He understands his mistakes and shoulders responsibility, all while continuing to show up with openness and honesty. It’s grit and resilience. A championship mentality.
Oscar’s natural stoicism does not lack passion and intensity. It shows a relentless pursuit of excellence under pressure and a quiet confidence that is never rooted in arrogance. He bounces back quickly, not because he’s cold, but because he’s passionate. A championship mentality.
They are different. Complementary. A championship won by either one of them will look differently. I stand by them both. I believe in them both.
Wanted to post all of the playlist I created for the cast.
If you have any suggestions for additions, changes or the like, please feel free to make them know. I consider my own taste in music limited, and some characters playlists are on the short side because of that.
I’m aware that some songs are shared across multiple playlists, that is intended. There’s generally a reason for that.

Whenever I take a long car ride I end up exhausted afterwards, and I’m always like “why am I so tired? I was just sitting around doing nothing all day.”
But the answer, it turns out, is I was doing something. Riding in a car jars your body in many directions and requires constant microadjustments of your muscles just to stay in place and hold your normal posture. Because you’re inside the car, inside the situation, it’s easy not to notice all the extra work you’re doing just to maintain the status quo.
There’s all sorts of type of work that we think of as “free” that require spending energy: concentrating, making decisions, managing anxiety, maintaining hypervigilance in an unfriendly environment, dealing with stereotype threat, processing a lot of sensory input, repairing skin cells damaged sun exposure, trying to stay warm in a cold room.
The next time you think you’re tired from “nothing”, consider instead that you’re probably in situation where you’re doing a lot of unnoticed extra work just to stay in place.
Fuck Colossal Biosciences. Dire wolves are one of the worst candidates for “de-extinction”, and these animals are not dire wolves by any legitimate genetic basis— transgenic grey wolves are transgenic grey wolves. This is theater, pure spectacle and clout chasing, not conservation. Our threatened native species deserve all the time, money, and labor being wasted on deceptive publicity stunts. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
If anyone's following me who has seen the: they brought dire wolves back articles.
Please understand this is a drastic failure of scientific reporting. What they have done is impressive science, but they have not brought dire wolves back.
They found a few gene fragments that were in dire wolves and manufactured similar in wolves.
To quote a reddit thread: it's like putting a few words of hamlet in another play and claiming its hamlet.
We have put jellyfish genes in cats to make them glow: those cats are not now jellyfish.
It's impressive to be able to identify and insert the genes like that, but these are not dire wolves and, to be frank, do not even resemble current models of dire wolves.
I want to make this clear. It is an impressive scientific achievement.
But the communication here is near outright fraudulent in my opinion.
I am rather dissappointed and can already feel the numerous convos I'm gonna have to have with random people online about this.
I hate being a killjoy.
this company is so frustratingly misleading. They did not bring back the direwolf (Aenocyon dirus). They modified a modern grey wolf (Canis lupus) into having some direwolf morphology. There has been no de-extinction. This is pure hype slop. As a friend said "these are dire wolves the same way La Croix is a fruit".
To anyone who follows me, I don't care about nor trust Colossal Biosciences anymore (The people behind the "Wooly Mice"). They have proven themselves to be headline-chasing grifters after this latest stunt. They are claiming to have de-extincted *Aenocyon dirus*, aka the Dire Wolf, by editing just 20 genes from the the DNA of a Grey Wolf (*Canis lupus*) to make this thing:
If it wasn't clear from their scientific names, Grey Wolves and Dire Wolves aren't remotely related to one another aside from being Canids, despite what pop culture like Game of Thrones would have you believe. If they did look like each other, it would have had to be via convergent evolution, as they only shared a common ancestor over 5 million years ago.
This distinction, however, isn't found in the publicized articles about this so-called resurrected Dire Wolf and makes their claim that they brought the Dire Wolf back by simply editing *20* genes from the genome of a Grey Wolf laughable. A Dire Wolf would have shared more in common genetically with a Maned Wolf (*Chrysocyon brachyurus*) or Bush Dog (*Speothos venaticus*) than it would with a Grey Wolf.
Bottom line, don't fall for whatever this company is trying to tell you. If the Dire Wolf were to be brought back, it wouldn't be via something like this, and certainly wouldn't *look* like this. If you want an idea as to how a real Dire Wolf would look like in life, here is some fantastic paleoart by artist Mauricio Antón:
Addendum: I seem to have partially miscalculated Dire Wolf genetics. They were not closer to Maned Wolves or Bush Dogs, but they were still not closely related to Grey Wolves. They were basal members of Canini, related to canids like Jackals (genus Lupulella) but distinct from them. I am sorry for this misinformation in my attempt to correct other misinformation. My main point, however, is still correct.

one of the things i love the most about piranesi is how the main character is this kind, inquisitive person who loves the world he inhabits and feels loved by it in turn, and how this is not something he needs to grow past, rather it is what saves him and keeps him alive. being observant, curious, wanting to learn about the House, being grateful for all it gives him, this is what keeps him alive and what helps him through the events that take place

How many of you have plans for your future? Do you have a career that you're working towards, and goals you hope to achieve? Do you have younger members of your family that you hope to see grow up safe? Do you want to start a family of your own?
Even if you're not sure about your future, the knowledge that you will have one is a privilege many of us take for granted. Amidst a violent occupation, Palestinians have tried to build futures and lives for themselves, and have been very successful. But recently, many people have found it hard to hold onto their dreams as their home is destroyed all around them, and their pleading with the world to help them falls on apathetic ears.
The fundraisers that you see shared on here are these families lifelines, but recently I've noticed that people have completely stopped caring about them. This is not normal and it's not okay!! If you are exhausted, I need you to consider how exhausting it is to live through it! Every fundraiser you see is a real person. These are not just games of getting numbers to go higher. These are people's hopes of survival, hopes for the future, hopes for their children. The way you react to these campaigns has a real effect on these people, has a real effect on their ability to believe in a better future and hold onto hope.
Your alliance with the Palestinian people has to be material and concrete. My friend Dina has been struggling severely to see a future for her children as her campaign goes ignored and her pleas for help are met with silence. Her children won't survive on your well wishes, they need actual help. Please don't stand idly by while this genocide continues. You may have seen the horrific crimes occurring every day in Gaza but you haven't seen how my friend fears for her and her children's lives every time a new horror occurs. Only you, through your support and care, can restore her hope for the future.

Once you start thinking about humans as a species in a biome, it affects your entire way of looking at normal things.
The other day I referred to female morning joggers as an 'indicator species' in that if you see women jogging in the dark it means that the environment provides migration pathways (sidewalks, clear signs) and doesn't have any known predators of female morning joggers (guy with knife, bear, BigTruck, male morning joggers).
Though, I think that people consider framing humans as animals reacting to their environment as rude.
nothing funnier to me than when AI does math wrong. like I get why it happens, it's a language model that's treating the numbers you feed it as words rather than integers and then giving you an answer based on how those words typically appear in a block of text instead of actually performing a calculation. but the one thing computers are genuinely incredible at. you fucked up a perfectly good calculator is what you did, look at it it's got hallucinations
One day you think: I want to die. And then you think, very quietly, actually I want a coffee. I want a nap. A sandwich. A book. And I want to die turns day by day into I want to go home, I want to walk in the woods, I want to see my friends, I want to sit in the sun. I want a cleaner room, I want a better job, I want to live somewhere else, I want to live.

williams giving carlos the freedom to work with the strategy team and suggest ideas makes me really glad. you can tell this is a team that wants to improve and do better. on top of that, we see this teamwork between carlos and alex going on behind the scenes is quite nice, especially knowing that carlos felt even more nervous at the pitwall than in the car. great work from alex :)
oscar keeping himself in this race is once again reminding me that he is only the fourth driver in history to have completed every lap in a season. he joins schumacher, hamilton, and verstappen. let that group sink in and then look me in the eye and tell me oscar isnt going to be written down as one of the greats.
At least the positives I can take from this are:
1) The McLaren is quick as fuck. At one point I think they were like 10-15 seconds ahead of verstappen.
2) Oscar “overtake masterclass” Piastri is still alive and well.
3) Oscar’s pace seems to be matching Landos so far which is where he was losing out last year.
4) Oscar has just a little more fire in him. His radio after being told to hold position “I’m faster,” whereas I feel like the main thing last year was that he NEVER responded to team orders on the radio, he just did it. It’s nice to see that he’ll question it.
5) It’s only the first race. Many more to come.
I don’t think people understand just how impressive carlos’ performances have been lately. for the first time in four years, he’s working with a different engine, one he said he’ll take at least half a season just to adjust to. despite that, he put in the fastest lap in pre-season testing, in p2 in fp1 and a p11 on mediums in fp2. mind you, he’s had about a 100 laps of practise in the car. sure, at end of the day these things might not amount to anything in actual races, where it matters, but to produce a decent lap in a position like his would be a feat in itself, let alone laps like that. he’s said multiple times to not expect big things season, that the goal is to get better than where the team was last season, and I think the team is already well on their way there, in no small part thanks to carlos.
