last night we let the tom of finland talk
literally the only thing that bothers me about James McAvoy's Charles Xavier is whenever they have him using a manual wheelchair as opposed to his power chair.
first off, let me just say i LOVE the inclusion of a manual chair for Xavier's character. i think it shows that he's not just always bopping around in his high tech power chair and i love it.
BUT.
could they not have brought a single wheelchair user to show him how to propel himself? he spins his wheels with the least efficiency possible. i imagine it must have been absolute hell on his shoulders to do that.
if you're unsure what i'm talking about, this is the recommended stroke pattern when propelling yourself in a wheelchair on level ground:
this allows for the least amount of strain on the shoulders while maximizing the distance with each push.
this is the stroke pattern recommended for travelling uphill:
it's also the way that, when i first got my wheelchair, i (mistakenly) propelled. it hurt a shit ton and i didn't go very far on flat ground, so i wasted a lot more energy than necessary.
it's also the way james mcavoy propels in almost every instance of using a manual wheelchair in the x-men movies (i'd include gifs but i can't find any so you're gonna have to take my word for it). occasionally he'll reach a smidge further back but not nearly enough to get the maximum efficiency from each stroke.
one could argue that maybe he is so used to the power chair that he never really learned to use a manual wheelchair. but he uses one MULTIPLE times in the prequel movies. come on man.
otherwise absolutely love him but like... when will we get actual accurate disability rep
loving a character so much will unlock such vulnerable and cringe parts of you that you try to suppress so bad but you can't like it's so humbling
ummm….. so. the mondoblr server made a joke, and i liked it a little too much.
of course, i wasn’t the only one who worked on this. big thanks to @pompadorbz @chinchillasinunison @mini-mecha-cowboy @cryzono and @ecogirl2759 for all the help, whether it be contributing entries or finding sources!! we had a ton of fun putting this together, and i hope you guys like it!
reblogs are greatly appreciated because all of these lovely people (and i) put a lot of work into this!! they deserve it!!
(under the cut will be a link to the document with all the entries and some links to sources for most of them. HUGE thanks to eco for popping the absolute fuck off and finding all these links for us!!! (and thanks to mark and @panicuriprince for helping us out towards the end!))
hrrghgghbmnnmm x-men evolution nightcrawler….
i actually didn't care for him when i first started watching evo 'cause i thought him annoying as shit but now that is PRECISELY why i'm obsessed with him. Weird Kid™ kurt is just such an endearing concept and it's like he's just like me and I FUCKING LOVE THIS GUY SO MUCH
everyone decided to skip in the bathroom
(shakily and brittlely: im never doing backgrounds again)
To give you some insight on just how absolutely insane this new Fionna and Cake episode is, Cake encourages this sexy alternate dimension Ice King (voiced by BRIAN DAVID GILBERT BY THE WAY) to commit interdimensional selfcest with Simon and he admits he THOUGHT ABOUT IT???? WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHOW???
sucks so bad when a character you love is heavily infantilized. that is a grown man he knows what a cigarette is. intimately
Hey anyone else remember the episode of Adventure Time called "Evergreen" where it's revealed that the original bearer of the crown to whom it was "forever linked" was actually a neglected child (and prior reincarnation of Finn) named Gunter trying to be like his wizard father?? Anyone??? Because I had fully forgotten until re-watching the episode last night and I'm losing my mind about the implications.
(This episode is also a devastating look at how a mistreated child unconsciously learns that he must treat himself and those he has power over as cruelly as he has been treated. Adventure Time has so much sadness and madness, y'all.)
do you think when cherik fuck all metal items in the room an maybe in the house starts to fly..... bc i do and i can't imagine what's going on with charles's powers help please
idk what happens on charles' end but this was my immediate first thought regarding erik
