Oh no, don’t tempt me to look into the formspring. But I don’t think even I am brave enough/ have enough free time to tread the festering pits of information that can be found on the formspring. On another note, I’m so glad you gave Vliegeng bigger mouths haha
Ahhhh I just finished reading this entire tumblr! So informative! I love you and your story even more now! So, do I get a medal for this feat of obsession-driven lore consumption? Or how about just vliegeng facts, as they are probably the best mythical creature to be created since dragons became a thing in like, BC 800 or whatever. Please seduce me with inessential minutia about vliegengs Ms. Cope~
Most impressive! Before tumblr I used a site called Formspring for Q&A, so as humongous as this archive of useless information is, imagine it four times longer with an even less intuitive UI :)
Since you’ve read all of tumblr though, I’m not sure what more to offer when it comes to vliegeng. Their original conception was in my roleplaying days. A certain horrid demon could only interact with humans (without driving them insane) by possessing the body of a notoriously hearty burrowing subterranean goat-snake. The demon’s master, a Lich named Lord Nihil, kept the poor critter chained up in his lair for the demon’s convenience. I believe Bastion killed it towards the end of the game. Bastion was always killin’ interesting monsters.
But that’s the reason for this illustration, and why the vliegeng looks so glum. It was not a happy captive.
Of course it was repurposed and altered for Unsounded. Instead of gliding through the earth like a Graboid, I moved it skywards, and added its unique relationship with the khert lines. And it’s such an ugly thing I liked the idea of making it distinctly Aldish, to clash with Aldish elegance. This simple contrast helped define Duane’s brother’s character somewhat. Duane had a brother in RP as well, a completely different character who was much more like him. Lemuel is quite a bit different: earthier, less pretentious, less cerebral. His role as a vliegeng handler influenced that development, I think.
Why doesn’t the church just bless the whole ass ocean?? Wouldn’t that like through the water cycle get rid of all vampires eventually ???
Because Google is totally useless and won't help you with ANYTHING
iNaturalist: Take photos of living things you see, post them, and the community will identify them for you. Data from iNaturalist is used in scientific research.
Wildflower.org Plant Database: Enter search criteria and find some plants. Very useful if you're looking for plants with specific qualities or know what you have in mind.
Native Plant Finder: This website is still in beta and is a work in progress, but it will show you plants for your area ranked by the number of butterflies that use them for their caterpillars.
WildflowerSearch: AMAZING resource for identification and for learning about new plants. Shows you where plants are native/not native, TONS of search filters.
Native Plant Trust: A New England organization, but probably useful to anyone.
Northern Forest Atlas: Great images and identification resources for trees; has good pictures of bark, seeds, buds, leaves.
FloraFinder: Another plant database site that's being slowly built up by a passionate nerd.
MonarchWatch milkweed by USA ecoregion: Tells you what milkweed species you should plant for monarch butterflies.
Native Beeology: Not plants, but a closely related subject.
I will add more and post an updated list as I find more.
Second in the series. I’m really proud of how this turned out, I kind of let go and painted nonstop until this was done, really late last night. I guess you could call it vent art.
Hey... I hear you're asking for are suggestions... how about 4A for Stephen's mom?

So what you’re telling me is Plats all have ADHD? :D
Is "get through life by going with the flow, with minimal effort. just letting everything happen" a common mentality of platinum caste, or is it just Mathis Quigley being Mathis Quigley?
Plats have a hard time with long-term plans and goals. It seems almost clinical, like their brains have difficulty conceptualising the future. Matty mentioned it once, that it was “hard to think” about his relatively shorter lifespan.
Quigley seems to have spun this into disregard for others and a desire to avoid conflicts. Vienne, on the other hand, seemed bolstered by it. It made her seem braver and more selfless since she couldn’t really *feel* her own mortality. And overall, Plats seem a little more cheerful for it, a little more likeable. Helps their reputation as a “blessed” people.
Whole thing is creepy.
